Obama Says Tiger Woods Can “Absolutely” Be Rehabilitated

From Sunlen Miller: President Obama says that embattled golfer Tiger Woods can “absolutely” be rehabilitated, following the scandal which linked the pro-golfer to at least nine mistresses. “I don’t want to comment on his personal relationship with his wife and family, but I’m a strong believer that anybody can look within themselves, find their flaws and fix them,” President Obama said in an interview with People Magazine hitting newsstands Friday. The President said that he’s sure Tiger feels “terrible” about what happened, “and I suspect that he will try to put his life back together again.” The golfer-in-chief met with Tiger Woods in the Oval Office in August of last year, when the golfer was receiving a tour of the White House.  In late December Tiger Woods announced that he is taking an “indefinite” leave from golf. -Sunlen Miller

My goodness,is this guy out to lunch?.Nobody is even talking about Tiger right now-even Obama’s timing is going down the drain. His entire legislative program is on the verge of going down and he has time to talk to People?

I supposed, like people jumped on Hume for saying Tiger should find Christianity, one could argue with Obama that perhaps Tiger doesn’t think he has flaws or needs fixin’…
He might be content just the way he is.
Obama can’t give up smoking, but he thinks Tiger can give up sex with blondes?

People jumped on Hume because he had no idea about Buddhism and was proselytizing about a certain flavor of Christianity.

What I find particularily offensive is NOT the alleged affairs but the manner in which people have rushed to judgment of Tiger Woods without even questioning if there were other circumstances in his life which may have contributed. People are like sharks- they smell blood and attack no matter what the circumstances. Perhaps getting the whole story might be important- do you think- before Tiger is completelt destroyed? Is it possible, just possible, that Elin had a role to play in this entire mess?

I am guessing right now the only thing Tiger feels terrible about is that he got caught…come on Obama, you are smarter than that….aren’t you?

Posted by: jim | January 13, 2010, 3:31 pm 3:31 pm

As much as I vigorously disagree with our President in the way he has governed the nation, I agree with on this: “that anybody can look within themselves, find their flaws and fix them.”
Indeed, I pray Obama hears his own words. Dear Promise of an American Man, look at what wreckage to the ship of state and nation that you and your regiments have made of this year. This cannot be your legacy!
I have fantasized that in the eleventh hour, when this monstrous health care bill takes over his desk, he will realize that only He can save the country from this terrible thing, and refuse to sign. And he would issue an order for a Commission to take a year and present us with a 21st century American Health Care bill. Wouldn’t that be a Hallejujah
Anybody can find their flaws and fix them!!!!!

Tiger is a wild animal, whether or not clawed. The difference between a non-claw tiger and the one with claws is that the non-claw one want to have claws.

Just once I would like to hear the President say “You know, I’d rather not comment on that”. “I really don’t know enough of the facts and personally do not think it is appropriate to comment”.
Didn’t he learn anything from the Professor Gates issue? Does he really have to voice his opinion about everything from the Cambridge Police to College Football playoffs to Tiger Woods. Please.

He was simply asked a question and he answered it tactfully and diplomatically. For those claiming he should have other, more important things on his mind — he does. So the question should be, why was he ASKED this question??? Not why did he answer it!

What Editor, in their “right” mind, chose to run this story regarding an interview that was done in the past and scheduled to be released on Friday by another publication? Given the events of the day and since no one has spoken about Tiger Woods for two weeks… what’s the story or motivation here?

Posted by: FS | January 13, 2010, 4:50 pm 4:50 pm

Does he ever mind his business? He must think he is the only half black person who can say what ever he wants. He needs to really start worrying about the economy, jobs and inflation. Whether he knows it or not he’s not doing too well in the polls or in the eyes of most americans and needs to start steping up to the plate and really fix some of these problems. But based on what we have seen in the past I’m afraid this is not going to happen.

Posted by: Oldrtoy | January 13, 2010, 4:50 pm 4:50 pm

Obama should not have commented on this subject.
With all the corruption in our US government, hardworking U.S. taxpayers can’t trust Obama, his administration or the liberal members of Congress.
They need to concentrate on unemployment, the economy and more important issues that affect us! What happened to transparency and allowing us to review everything on TV? Why have some senators been offered perks for their individual states at the cost of all American taxpayers?
I may never vote for another Democrat!

Obama is right. Tiger can rehabilitate himself because he is still the best Golfer in the world and has the money to reinvent himself and invest in himself. In addition, the fans and the Golf industry will be the biggest losers without Tiger. There are several examples of celebrities getting resurrected because fans are suckers for their stars. The better question is when will Tiger rehabilitate himself. I predict in two years we will not even remember his misadventures.

I suggest Obama look with in himself and ask the question – Can i live up to the promises I made to the American people on the campaign trail. There still is time -
Or was this just some more talk on his part.
My bet is he loves being president and he is very willing to let other people like Pelosi, reid run the Country.
Pelosi has been more a president than Obama and she is a measerable human being

Jaylah: Obama is as qualified to comment about Woods as you are to comment about him. If you don’t have anything of substance to say, it’s best not post anything. Do you ever question Hannity or Limbaugh’s qualifications to comment on and judge anyone? I doubt it.

The President would have been better off saying something like “I hope so,’ or better yet, ‘ I’m not qualified to make that kind of judgement.’ Personally, I’m pretty fed up with Tiger Woods; if he dropped off the planet, it would be fine with me.

Posted by: Richard | January 13, 2010, 5:44 pm 5:44 pm

With all that is going on in the world, why is President Obama even commenting on the dirty laundry left out by tiger woods???? Are we next going to see his comments on Brad Pitt, American Idol??? Is Tiger a political figure to whom he must lend support? No. The fact that he endorses Tiger and his behavior is just plain stupid. Our President has no role in our pop culture, while he looks at himself as a rockstar, he has to remember he is President of the United States of America.

Posted by: CACREY | January 13, 2010, 5:54 pm 5:54 pm

Tiger does not have a sex addiction problem, he is just a “player” and probably has been for a long time. If Marriage and kids didn’t change him, he never will, he can not be with just one woman. Elin should have checked this out before she married him and he should have said no to marriage if he couldn’t be committed. Like any player, he probably thought he wouldn’t get caught.

It’s embarrassing that someone would even ask the President about Tiger. What is wrong with our media? That was rhetorical. I read that Hillary Clinton will cut short her trip to Asia to go to Haiti. Now, let’s see who’ll be the first idiot “reporter” to ask her about the quotes in the book Game Change while she’s in Haiti? Any guesses? When you hear the question, remember this post! Oh, and while you may not like many of them, this President got 96.7% of his legislation passed last year. He actually broke the record set by LBJ which was 86%. You should watch The Rachel Maddow Show. It’s very informative!

I would think that after the latest Gallup Poll, our president might want to spend a little more time addressing the economy and the so callled health care bill that more than 50% of voters disapprove of how he has handled so far. If he is that concerned about Tiger, he could have just picked up the phone.

Look as it’s been pointed out by the Media and Americans Tiger cheated on his wife and that’s worse then Mark McGwire taking drugs for years and lying under oath. Yes Mark McGwire is teaching our kids that cheating on your wife is something the US will never allow, but using drugs for decades is not that bad if you say your sorry after the statue of limitions is up so you can’t be charged with the crime you committed. We see Gov. Sanford, Senators Ensign, Craig, Foley, Vitters as our heros for their conduct and showing us true American Christian Values we should all follow. Kobe Bryant should be fired and never allowed to play basketball ever again and any other minority. Barry Bonds should get life in jail for using drugs while playing baseball. Mark McGwire should go into the Baseball Hall of Fame as an American Hero and for all our children to follow.

Yes,Tiger is a player and was before he got married. It’s documented that he told his wife he would settle down and become monogamous. If he wanted to be faithful, but couldn’t, then he is a sex addict. If he married just to create a false image, then he is a liar. Either way, he needs to work out his problems. He has defrauded millions of people, including his family. Btw,I, too, wonder why Obama has commented on Tiger Woods’ situation. Clearly those of us posting comments here have too much time on our hands, but the President of the United States?

Posted by: Vtryismn | January 13, 2010, 10:50 pm 10:50 pm

Why is Obama the expert on everything? He doesnt need to weigh in on tabloid issues.

Posted by: Zeke | January 13, 2010, 10:58 pm 10:58 pm

Doesn’t Obama have more important issues to discuss and concern himself with ( the economy going to hell in a basket, thousands of people out of work, the war in the Middle East to name but a few) without making idle prattle about Tiger Woods’ rehabilitation?

Posted by: Nancy Hartzog | January 13, 2010, 11:18 pm 11:18 pm

The best thing Tiger can do about his image right now is go to Haiti and help out.

Posted by: chewi | January 13, 2010, 11:22 pm 11:22 pm

What does Obama have to do with Tiger Woods, and why would we value Obama’s opinion anyway?

Do you really not understand this was an interview done by People mag – and that it was their question?
Now why abc and Political Punch would chose to cover the People story is a different question – are they part of the same corporate structure? Or is it just more sensational ‘news’?

So Obama is now the Shrink-in-Chief?
Who would take advice from a guy who sat 20 years under nutcase Jeremiah Wright? Who would take advice from a guy who is buddies with Oprah who takes advice from new age channelers and their channeling spirits?
We are doomed. Start planning for survival. Don’t expect the government to help you.
And about Tiger. It wasn’t too long ago that advlterers went to jail. Also, his addiction fueled by his easy money can only be fixed by the Holy Spirit after being born again. Brit Hume is right. Obama who (falsely) claims to be a Christian should know this.

Come ON! There is a big difference between saying that Obama said
“Tiger Woods can absolutely be rehabilitated”
and what Obama ACTUALLY said which was
“I’m a strong believer that anybody can look within themselves, find their flaws and fix them” – what kind of crap journalism is this? MISQUOTE MISQUOTE MISQUOTE

Now Obama is a physic, when he studied constitutional law and failed miserable at that,he seems to not know the constitution nor what limits it put on the federal government.

Where does the POTUS find the time?

Obama is assuming that Tiger feels “terrible.”

Posted by: Peggy | January 14, 2010, 9:26 am 9:26 am

tiger promised his wife to be faithful but cheated on her several times. now he’s probably promising her that he can change while she can only hope.
obama promised not only hope and change, but less war, gitmo closing, public option and transparency among other things. he’s kept none. he’s only been faithful to the pharma and banking industries while screwing the constituencies that elected him to office. He has 3 years to get out of the dog house. I can see why he puts a lot of hope in Tiger’s recovery.

I dont care about Tiger. He’s a great golfer period. I dont care about McGuire, he was a great home run hitter period. (like you didnt know he took steroids, please) What I DO care about, America, fixing our failing economy, helping Haiti, creating jobs and more. Dont let them change the subject on America time after time.

people please stop nitpicking it is just a comment, stop picking on everything like it carved in stone. people can fix their lives and be rehabilitated if they want to follow through and just do it.

the only thing obama and tiger have in common is their best days are behind them

Why is everyone so shocked about Tiger? Should we not be just as shocked with David Letterman? What he did is sexual harrasement and then he goes public and CBS does nothing. We give David a pat on the back and drag Tiger through mud! The women associated with both men certainly are not those you would bring home to mother!

I wish people would real stop and think before posting some of these comments. The CIC was asked a question about the Tiger Wood situation and he answered this trivial question and now a whole lot of malcontents are all over The President about it. All President end up answer questions like depending on what’s going on in that particular news cycle that week. So what I’m trying to say in my long winded fashion is for everyone “TO LIGHTEN THE HELL UP”. This man is doing a job that in all truthfulness that no one else wants but everyone want to weigh there little opinions on how’s he handling this job. I don’t see anyone else out there in the new political arena who claim that they can do a better job than our current president that I would trust to do a better job than our current president.

It’s funny how we can say that Obama is a failure, a bad politician, and failed at constitutional law….ha ha ha. we can only laugh…. listen folks, no matter what you do or say….HE’S THE PRESIDENT OF THE USA AND HE’S BLACK…GET OVER IT!

Posted by: Dick | January 15, 2010, 11:35 am 11:35 am

why would tiger woods ever want to help people of color. although his $ would be better served helping the people of haiti than where he usually spends it.
the president should concentrate on this economy and health care, none of which will ever be problems for mr. woods.

Posted by: ninnafaye | January 15, 2010, 1:19 pm 1:19 pm

is there any reason in the world the president should be making comments or even getting involved in a citizens problems or personal life. I have never ever heard of a real president stinking his nose in any citizen’s business. Give me a break!

The media is always trying to bait Obama into saying something bad about someone. It looks like he learned his lesson from the Kanye West debacle. You can read more about this episode as well as others in a new book on Race and stereotypes called: Plain talk-Everything you ever and never wanted to know about Racism and Stereotypes. Volume 1
