Pelosi: We Will Have Health Care – One Way Or Another

ABC News' Jonathan Karl reports: Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi says Democrats will charge ahead with health care reform regardless of what happens in the Massachusetts Senate race. "Let's remove all doubt, we will have health care — one way or another," Pelosi told reporters in San Francisco.  But how?  The Speaker was less clear on that question. "Certainly the dynamic would change depending on what happens in Massachusetts," Pelosi said. "[It's] just a question about how we would proceed. But it doesn't mean we won't have a health care bill." Privately, Democratic Congressional leaders are less certain.  The most likely scenario, and one preferred by the White House, is for the House to simply pick up and pass the bill that passed the Senate on Christmas Eve.  But House Democrats say they can’t do that because they simply don’t have the votes to pass Senate bill (recall that House passed its own bill by a narrow 220-215 margin, and since then, one of those 220, Democrat Robert Wexler, has left the House and won’t be replaced until April). Speculating on the impact of Republican victory, one Democratic leadership aide in the Senate told me today, “”The most likely outcome is that health care reform dies.” Video of Speaker Pelosi’s remarks can be found HERE, on the San Francisco Chronicle’s website.

healthcare reform doesn’t need to die. Maybe this bill does, but not healthcare reform. Come on people tell your reps to work TOGETHER to help those who don’t have insurance gain it. This doesn’t mean give people health insurance at others expense but lets help out until things get better. Remember the old saying, give a man a fish feed him for a day, teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime. Thats what we need to do. Teach people to fish so to speak. Not hand people things

Hey Pelosi How about you stay home where no one has to look at you. That would make things healthier all around.

Unbelievable how arrogant can you be the voice of the people should be heard and the majority dont want this pork laden, bribe filled probably illegal bill. Health care could be achieved if you would do health care, take it a small piece at a time, controll the insurance companies, not how this monstrosity helps them be more profitable.

President Pelosi doesn’t care one bit about what the Majority of Americans want. She will go down as being the absolute worst Speaker of The House.
Why is it so hard for the democrats to understand if you don’t have the money you can’t spend it. Who raised these people?
Obama never took office he just lives in the White House. Pelosi, Reid, Franks, Dood and the rest run the country.
What a huge mistake he turned out to be. He fooled us all. Never again

ABSOLUTELY there should be health care. But not through this sham of a bill that doesn’t fix anything and is opposed by a majority of the country. I much prefer “There will be health care one way or another” to “There will be health care like it or not”.

Posted by: vincent knight | January 18, 2010, 7:37 pm 7:37 pm

Here’s what I don’t understand. Why on earth did the president and congress insist such a monstrosity of a bill? You want to do some health care reform? Try these very simple things:
1. Cover all children 18 years and younger (longer if they are full time in school). Who would argue at protecting the most vulnerable?
2. Create real tort reform. Does it make sense for doctors to pay zillions of dollars in malpractice insurance because of every nitwit lawyer out there that thinks he should be able to sue for $100M?
3. Enable a means of covering those with pre-existing conditions.
4. Pay for this through a tax on the Cadillac plans. Seems odd to me that anyone should have a $40,000 policy with no copays or anything.
Small steps could have won the day and made progress. What we have now is such a mess that I struggle to see how ANY American could support this.

Let there be no mistake here, — The WH attemps and proposals for health care are strictly for control of 1/5 of the US economy. Its center piece of the great transformation of the United States and its political system. That’s the one burning desire obama has on his mind.
All the other promises were just “Tell them anything to get elected”

Hey, Pelosi — go back to California and mind your own beeswax. Your comment reads like a threat and those of us who care about America don’t care for you! Time for Pelosi reform. Can’t happen soon enough. BTW, health care is more available than ever before. Google ” health insurance brokers” and you’ll get thousands of results, something unavailable 20 years ago. Yeah, it costs $200-$300 a month, but maybe people should give up their big screen TVs, video games and $100 Nikes before begging for trillion-dollar “free” health care. Whatever happened to this country…

Please, if the Republicans were willing to have anything short of the current status quo they would have done it while in power. It would have been an easy feel-good bipartisan lift, easier than tax cuts and the Medicare drugs benefit. They didn’t. They will not agree to ANYTHING other than the current situation. Of course, that is what you’re promoting too.

The possibility that The American People might actually receive their true will, and have the opportunity to somehow refocus this Healthcare Reform is unbelievable. What Miss Pelosi and the whole Obama Utopian Movement have lost touch with, is that We The People not only have an opinion but we have the intelligence to know when we are being railroaded, and quit frankly we will not stand for it!! Good Campaign Mr. Brown!! Just another insult from Ms. Pelosi.

This healthcare bill has turned out to be the best thing that could have happened. For decades Democrats have hidden their true agenda. Now that they thought they could get it done, they let it all hang out and showed their true colors, not afraid of losing. But now, we know what they really want, and we won’t be fooled again. I, for one, will never forget the way they ignored the will of the people and bought votes with my money. I’m outraged, and I will never vote Democrat again.

Democrats will most likely still control the House after the November elections, so I propose that the moderate Democrats get together and make a choice for speaker, get the Republicans to go along, then elect a new speaker to replace Pelosi in January of 2011. Hopefully there will be enough new moderate Dems to get this done. (well, i can dream, can’t i?)

Time to vote out any Democrat that has voted with Pelosi and Reid. They serve unions and the fat cats on Wall Street. Don’t listen to their words but rather watch their actions. Obama scolds Wall Street even though he is the one who put together the conditions for them to make billions.

Remember how Bush was criticized for “You’re either with us, or against us.” It sounds to me that Pelosi is almost saying the same thing, we’re gonna get the bill the way we want it, screw the opposition. The democrats inside the beltway are obviously smarter and more moral than the voter.

Pelosi is as CORRUPT, and Anti-American, as there is in Politics.
She LIES about Catholic principals/beliefs concerning abortion and praises the “health care sell out” as the “most transparent in history” and the main street press nods their heads – never asks/demands retractions/tough questions – and follows the Democrats like lemmings.
PATHETIC PARTISAN and CORRUPT = Pelosi, Obama, Reid, Rangel, Dodd, Richardson, Edwards, Murtha, and the Democrat Party with their money laundering ways with ACORN and SEIU.
God bless America and Christians/Jewish People and children everywhere. Now, lets’ see how long this response is allowed to be seen. So much for “freedom of speech”.

Because if the GOP wins in Massachusetts, getting any health care reform may depend on her selling the Senate Bill to the House. Read the article for details.

rob: The senete health care bill does all those things and Obama signed a child health care bill early 2009. For all those who think this is communism or socialism, look up what the bill is and is not proposing and look up the definitions of those terms! It’s no way near those things so calm down! There is no public option its just regulation of the insurance industry now. So why do the GOP oppose it? The CBO said that it will reduce the defict so that arguement won’t work. Oh yeah thats right its just politics. Part of the reason that this recession has been so hard is the costs on small businesses caused by healthcare. Though I don’t agree with all the dems proposals at least they are trying to do something, the GOP did nothing except fund the drug companies with the unpaid for drug bill back in the early 2000s adding trillions to the budget and making their arguments hypocritical.

Maybe they should go back to the drawing board. Only this time do it the way Obama said it would be done when he was campaigning, ON CSPAN in front of everyone where voters can see from beginning to end what ideas were presented and why we should accept them or reject them. Eliminate the backroom deal Obama made with the pharmacutical companies and all of the bribes for votes. Start over and do it the way Obama promised it would be done.

It is true that there are problems with the Health Care, or as it is referred to by some the Health Insurance Reform Bill. It was rushed because of a lack of Republican support. The whole health care system is screwed up, not only because of the insurance industry, but the whole health care community, along with a lot of individual responsibility. There are Republicans, with their blinders on, such as Ohios own John Bohner, who doesn’t think there is a problem, because the wealthy are okay. (We’ll remember him next time around.)These are the attitudes that are rushing the bill, instead of looking at all the solutions. The WHOLE problem needs to be addressed from the individuals, abusing themselves, and the health care system, to the medical supply companies, who charge outrageous prices for everything from plastic urinals to MRI machines, the drug cos. who wanted one person I talked to pay $256 a day for a medication needed to prolong his life, (I would have to check out, for that much money.) to the doctors who charge thousands of dollars for minutes of work, and the insurance cos. SHOULDN’T DENY CARE TO ANYONE.

At this point these leaders must be held to the laws of this nation on parliamentary rules for this bill and not find ways to circumvent the votes of congress. This smacks of corruption and they must be help accountable.

Similar to a leadership comment in San Diego a few years ago as it was becoming evident massive overspending on mass transit was increasing congestion. “We are going to build mass transit. It’s the public’s fault if they don’t use it”
Neither that congestion, nor national health rules are being fixed.

When ever the “goverment” or taxpayer is footing the bill, there are no restraints on cost. A local Vocational school will charge you $3600 for your training. If you use a pell grant from the goverment, the cost jumps to $12,000. This is exactly what will happen with healthcare. As long as it is subsidized by taxpayer dollars the costs will be astronomical. Regulating the insurers and tort reform would go a long way to decreasing healthcare costs without a 2000+ page bill and special deals for special interests.
Pelosi would rather enforce a convoluted bill because she really thinks Americans are just too stupid to understand it. The underhanded deals with insurance and drug compaines is just icing on the cake for democrats. God help us all if this passes.

Dear President Obama,
Will you please inform the American Senator’s and House Member’s, “We the People” are TIRED of their appalling Medical Bill and broken promises. This American Congress receives the BEST medical care Our MONEY can buy for each of THEM! Their yearly pay check received is more then the majority of us ever dream of receiving. Their uncaring behavior, OUR money they have wasted creating a junk medical bill is a long road from being honorable! Disgraceful and insulting! Every Congress member whom is opposing a Medicare medical bill for ALL American’s in need should be removed and replaced immediately. “We” are led to believe that OUR Congress really cares about, “We the People”. Act like it! Stop the game playing and DO something for “We the People!
Truly those of you whom do not support a Medicare Bill for “We the American People”, should get in line behind Mr. G.W. Bush JR. Because He too, did absolutely NOTHING for “We the People”. He made sure the HAVE MORES could have more, while we worked to pay for it and went without! Is there no shame among you. Even when you walk through your church doors, and when you air yourself on television begging for us to vote for you?
Disgusted with Congress!

Dems…get it together! Dems are the most unorganized group ever!@!!! Pick an enemy. The enemy is the PARTY OF NO (The Republicans). Republicans say the US is in this financial crisis because the Dems ran Congress the last 4 years of W’s term.
Dems, START YELLING!@!!! Republicans need to be reminded of their uncharitability! It is all for one and the rest can go to shanty town in the minds of the Republicans. Dems have to tell the story in a COMPELLING WAY!
I ask you, is Nancy Pelosi compelling? Or just a Democratic enemy? NOT compelling.
Our country is falling into second or third place. We are drowning in mediocrity. EVERYONE must take RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE A CHANGE!!!!!
Dems, get together, state our Agenda, get the word out there!!!!! What the hel is our agenda? For example, it is not ABORTION…NO, it is NO MORE UNWANTED CHILDREN THAT THE GD REPUBLICANS WON’T SUPPORT, WON’T GIVE HEALTHCARE TO, WON’T EDUCATE.
LET’S GET OUR STORY STRAIGHT AND LET’S TELL IT OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!@!!
Be like a Republican and START YELLING!!!!!!!!!

Mr. Obama and the Speaker’s “Patient Protection and Affordable Act” does not come near reaching the meanings of the two words. Further, Our legislators need to become more careful in definition of words or what, specifically besides private insurance does anyone identify as a problem? The Cost has gone-up right along side the progress that has been tremendous in providing, preventing, treating, medicating, involving patients in their own care. All things equal, just leaving Medicare/caid alone and adding Federal insurance’s cafeteria plan seems pretty straightforward. That is Representative Issa’s idea. It won’t put taxpayers into National bankruptcy!
The key now is too get “bipartisan” to mean the Progressive’s quit spending taxpayer money on jobs. If they want money, they can get it by tax incentives and hiring. Get Fed’s out of business. Yes, it makes mistake’s; but the Fed’s mistakes cost more and are never changing. At least business, when it loses, stops what it is doing wrong.

My military boys will provide Pelosi and Reid parachutes to parachute in with their corrupt Bill. I don’t remember who packed them or when?

I have a problem with the white house. Why doesn’t the white house employees get the same insurance they are pushing on the public. The bigger question is why are we not offered the same health insurance policy congress has been given? It must be to good for the average american and we voted those people into office. Congress also voted themselves from being force to get the same insurance they are jamming down our throat. Does this tell you anything?? I love being an american if that is what you can still call it???
