In an email to supporters of President Obama’s former campaign – now called Organizing for America – the president’s political guru David Plouffe offers a note of sympathy for dispirited activists.

“We've hit some serious bumps in the road recently in our march toward change,” Plouffe writes, speaking of the election of Sen.-elect Scott Brown, R-Mass., and the loss of the Senate supermajority – not to mention the shivers the Republican win sent down the spines of Democratic officials. “We always knew it would be difficult, but this past week has definitely been a hard one, for all of us.”

For the president’s “first State of the Union address,” Plouffe writes, “We must regroup, refocus, and re-engage on the vital work ahead.”

He calls for supporters to throw a State of the Union Watch Party in their neighborhoods.
