Sarah Palin’s New Pundit Gig

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin debuted in her new paid gig as a political analyst on Fox News Channel last night. On Good Morning America, we took a look:

Who was the pinhead commentator that was spewing nonsense about the Governor? C”mon Jake…he was ridiculous..did he come from “The Insider”?

The DNC response was childish. The Democrat party needs to grow up – these are serious times we live in and Americans are looking for serious leadership.
It’s no secret the liberal elites despise this woman as (a.) she is a self-made, conservative woman and mother, (b.) she is not “one of them” and they do not understand her, (c.) her ability to connect with the public at large is threat to Democrats. So, they continue to rake her over the coals to degree previously unseen (anyone?).
Furthermore, while liberals try to paint of label of Sarah Palin being “dumb”, “ditzy”, and/or “unintelligent”, I challenge any of them to provide an argument as to how Barack Obama was more qualifed than Sarah Palin to be President. A wide swath of Americans see the contrasts between the two which explains in part her popularity and the hate leveled upon her.
Soon she will be more popular than he is as well.

Sarah Palin just frightens the bejesus out of Democrats. Letterman can’t do a show without insulting her. The DNC is obsessed with her. She even has Obama responding.
That is one powerful woman.

By all means, let’s do more reporting on Sarah Palin. In the meantime, the Obama administration is releasing lies about 2 million jobs being created in less than 12 months by the stimulus plan. Obama and the dems are selling our children and grandchildren down the financial river and all you can do is worry about what Palin said last night. You should be ashamed Jake.

Posted by: You Lie! | January 13, 2010, 12:57 pm 12:57 pm

This new job does nothing for Palin’s political future and will only serve to rev up her already rabid fan base. The independent crowd she needs to be a viable presidential candidate will not be swayed by anything she says or does on Fox. It’s just a glorified Facebook commentary…

Reporting? What is there to report? The only thing spewing from the critics is vitriol. News? The more they mock her the more they offend the average American that identifies her. And I do believe that it is the average American that votes, pays taxes, and are the source of network ‘ratings’.

“That is one powerful woman”
Only if Rush Limbaugh is a powerful man. However his power ensures he will never be elected to high office, and unfortunately for her fans the same is probably true of Grandma Palin. She’s just another media loudmouth now.

Jake. Here let me show you some actual stories to follow up on that are more important than Palin’s debut on Fox.

“Jake. Here let me show you some actual stories to follow up on that are more important than Palin’s debut on Fox.”
Or how about The Weekly Standard reporter who was shoved to the ground last night in DC by one of Martha Coakley’s thugs when the reporter had the gall to ask why a number of (paid) healthcare lobbyists were supporting her campaign at a fund-raiser in DC.
Attorney General Coakley witnessed the entire incident, no charges filed.

We are only now learning of the depth of Palin’s ignorance and stupidity, to think she had a possibility (remote) of being Pres if something had happened to McCain had he won, is how close America came to a catastrophic disaster.
she is emblematic of the right wing,, education is bad, knowledge is bad, jingoism is good, watch what we say, not we we do…..

It’s funny so many still talk about how stupid she is supposed to be yet I would bet she is making more money off her book and TV deal than most of the people calling her stupid. Kinda of like george Bush remember that idiot that was so stupid he tricked the entire world on WMD and Iraq?

Posted by: 'Un-American" | January 13, 2010, 1:39 pm 1:39 pm

So Sarah Palin believes that the government should get out of the way of business.
If you check the internet, you’ll discover that Sarah Palin, who billed herself as Wasilla’s first Christian mayor, provided an excellent example of deregulated businesses. Because she got campaign contributions for bar owners, she permitted bars to stay open until 5 AM. When Wasilla’s police chief Irl Stambaugh objected because this would increase the number of DUI’s and DUI-related auto accidents, she fired him.
In addition to DUI’s, longer bar owners enabled more men to drink up their salaries and go home and beat up their wives or live-in girl friends. It also increased the likelihood of sexual assault. When Palin was governor of Alaska, Alaska had one of the highest rates of sexual assault in the country. But in Wasilla, this was OK because while Palin was mayor, rape victims had to pay for their own rape treatment kits.
Oh yes, if Sarah Palin were actually president, if woman who became pregnant because of a sexual assault, she could not get an abortion. She had to be a mother to the unwanted baby – even if the “woman” was a 14 year old girl who was assaulted by her mother’s live-in boyfriend.
So, Sarah Palin does not want any regulation of businesses, but there is nothing wrong with regulating a woman’s private life. And FOX news wants Palin to be the next president.

“It’s funny so many still talk about how stupid she is supposed to be yet I would bet she is making more money off her book and TV deal”
Good point.
Who’s dumber, Palin or the people who pay money to listen to her.

Politicians are not role models for Americans……from either of the 2 main political parties.
The citizens need to recognize it is time for a new party, and one that truly does represent the people, and not the wealthy and influential.
Let’s stop supporting those who are only out for themselves, and put people in office that want to do something good for American citizens.
One thing we do recognize, and that is that business is no longer following a responsible model of behavior. The banks have clearly demonstrated that, and it is a pervasive attitude in business, overall, in this country.
We must demand that business return to the basic principle that one of the goals of business, should be to provide jobs and well-being for people. You do not do that, by sending all of America’s manufacturing to China!!!!

===It’s just a glorified Facebook commentary…===
Then why does anyone care? And they do care. Letterman can’t let a night go by without mentioning her. Apparently ABC has a reporter assigned to her (who is in the DR covering the earthquake, which is why Jake is johnny-on-the-spot for us). I don’t get it.

I love this “real Americans love Palin” claim. The majority of Americans voted for Obama. More Americans identify themselves as Democrats than Republicans by a huge margin. Democrats won the popular vote in 4 of the last 5 Presidential elections. That tells you who the real Americans are – Palin’s supporters are birthers and other crazies who have never read an economics textbook and have no clue that GOP policies hurt working people like them.

===longer bar owners ====
As opposed to shorter ones?
===So, Sarah Palin does not want any regulation of businesses, but there is nothing wrong with regulating a woman’s private life===
She holds the same pro-life policies that many democrats in Washington hold. Why is she so vilified for that position?

Posted by: Axey | January 13, 2010, 2:09 pm 2:09 pm

“Palin’s supporters are birthers and other crazies who have never read an economics textbook…”
Untrue. Based on the past 12 months it would appear that Liberals are unfamiliar with fundamental economics.
“…and have no clue that GOP policies hurt working people like them.”
Hmm…sounds like this comment would be more applicable to the “lost” generations of Americans who have become addicted to (enslaved by?) government entitlements promoted by Democrats.
I also note that not one Palin-hater has taken up my challenge to refute my claim that Palin (as VP candidate) was more qualified to hold the office of president than Obama.

Why bother?
She was mayor of a podunk town for a few years followed being Governor of a backwater state for all of 1 1/2 years until she quit that job.
She has proven herself unqualified to govern.
But she fits right in with Fox’s lineup of right wing talking heads.

So many people have based their opinions of Sarah Palin on a caricature, not her character and accomplishments. ………….Those are misconceptions based upon misquotation, elitist journalism, and flat out lies. …Sarah Palin achieved more on a transcontinental pipeline in 2.5 years than her predecessors have in the past 30 years. She cut state spending every year she has been in office, and this is not solely disallowing government spending to increase by the inflationary three percent. She passed actual cuts to spending. ..She has brought about ethics reform in a corrupt government. Through ACES, Governor Palin provided incentive to oil companies and ensured stability and protection for the resource owners, Alaskans.”. Additionally, ..Governor Palin took on corruption on both sides of the aisle!!…. For her it’s not about politics, but principles.
Sarah is a student of Ronald Reagan. ..She believes that “promoting the general welfare” is about helping people realize their self-sufficiency, not their need to rely on government. ..She sees a strong national defense and energy independence as two key issues facing our nation. ..She believes in limited government as a means of encouraging development and advocates cutting taxes, thus providing jobs for many. If someone respectfully disagrees with her politics, that is totally understandable.

Who is more qualified to be President? .
Let’s compare:
- Mayor of Wasilla, AK- elected official with responsibility for managing all aspects of a city, including roads, public services and utilities, municipal planning and development, job creation, city emergency response and municipal budgets and staff
- Chairperson, Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission- Chief Executive of and an independent agency of the U.S. state of Alaska. This Commission is responsible for overseeing oil and gas drilling and production, reservoir depletion, and certain other operations on private and state-owned lands in Alaska.
- Governor of Alaska- Chief Executive of the largest US State. Manages a budget of over 10 billion dollars, and more than 24,000 employees. CoC of National Guard
- Community Organizer- an individual lobbyist who, in Obama’s case, made $17,000/ yr. to represent housing projects to the city government.
- State Legislator- 1 of 59 part time elected officials. Represented a district of totaling approx. 20 sq. miles.
- State Senator- 1 of 2 State Senators from IL who represent the States interests to the US Federal Government.

now she will boost Fox’s ratings even more!

Posted by: ollie | January 13, 2010, 2:48 pm 2:48 pm

How does ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN have time to worry about Palin.
Their full time job is to see that Obama looks as good as possible.
Fox is looking out for us.

Posted by: millie | January 13, 2010, 2:50 pm 2:50 pm

“Why bother?”
Let’s look at your boy Barack’s past:
- Admits to cocaine use (in his book)
- Sat for 20 years in the church of a preacher who ranted against America (and at times, specifically white America)
- By appearances was never responsible for a budget and directly managing staff/personnel
- Was associated with many shady Chicago characters (Rezco, Ayres, Blago, Daly, etc.)
- Has few (any?) accomplishments to point to during his time as a state legistlator or U.S. Senator (tho’ he voted “present” quite a bit)
- Would appear to have never held down a job that could be considered by the majority of Americans as “honest” work (community organizer, lawyer, politician)
So yeah, RyanC, I can understand why you would not want to debate Obama’s qualifications vs. those of Palin’s.

Fixed your list for you
- Mayor of Wasilla, AK- ran up over $20M in debt in a town of less than 10K.
- Chairperson, Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission- a whole year before she resigned. She then proceeded to advance her political ambitions by turning on her friends in the GOP establishment. She then proceeded to do many of the unethical things that she ratted om her friends for.
- Governor of Alaska- Quit after 1 1/2 years on the job.

Actually Obama’s favorables have been relatively stable (mid 50′s) for the past 3 months though he has seen an uptick in his unfavorable numbers.
Palin is different in that her unfavorables (upper 40′s) have been pretty stable while she has seen a slight uptick in her favorables.

Posted by: Oh Yeah | January 13, 2010, 3:40 pm 3:40 pm

“re: Messiah
why does the right so desperately mix religion and politics”
Actually it is the left who does so. A few examples:
From Newsweek editor Evan Thomas (June 2009):
“He’s going to bring all different sides together…Obama is trying to sort of tamper everything down. He doesn’t even use the word terror. He uses extremism. He’s all about let us reason together…He’s the teacher. He is going to say, ‘now, children, stop fighting and quarreling with each other.’ And he has a kind of a moral authority that he – he can – he can do that.”
Obama is ‘we are above that now.’ We’re not just parochial, we’re not just chauvinistic, we’re not just provincial. We stand for something – I mean in a way Obama’s standing above the country, above – above the world, he’s sort of God. He’s going to bring all different sides together.”
From the Politiken (Danish newspaper) Editorial (December 2009):
“On the other hand, we have Jesus’ miracles that everyone still remembers, but which only benefitted a few. At the same time, we have the wonderful parables about his life and deeds that we know from the New Testament, but which have been interpreted so differently over the past 2000 years that it is impossible to give an unequivocal result of his work.
Obama is, of course, greater than Jesus – if we have to play that absurd Christmas game. But it is probably more meaningful to insist that with today’s domestic triumph, that he has already assured himself a place in the history books – a space he has good chances of expanding considerably in coming years.”
==================
So what you haven’t figured out is that when we on the right invoke religious references, we are actually ridiculing the unwavering adoration some of the left hold for The One.

“you need to hook up with those religious types praying for bad stuff to happen to the Pres, good republican/conservatives all”
Or blaming the Haitians for the Earthquake because they are not evangelical Christians (they happen to be devout Catholics) like right winger Pat Robertson just did.
You might remember Pat from the past saying Americans are to blame for 9/11 and Katrina.

I actually happy to see Palin join FoxNews. It’s a job that suits her and I’m sure she’ll provide entertainment for millions. And Democrats really can’t whine about it – everyone knew she was going to stay active in the Republican party for some time, and it’s not like by joining their TV station she’ll do any more damage than Hannity, Beck, etc. do already.

“No one has to wish or pray for obama to do bad.”
And yet right wingers seem to be doing just that.
FoxNews”Phoenix Pastor Draws Protests After Telling Church He Prays for Obama’s Death
Pastor Steven Anderson stood by his sermon in an interview with MyFOXPhoenix, which reports that the pastor continues to encourage his parishioners to join him in praying for the president’s death.
“I hope that God strikes Barack Obama with brain cancer so he can die like Ted Kennedy and I hope it happens today,” he told MyFOXPhoenix on Sunday. He called his message “spiritual warfare” and said he does not condone killing. ”
OC Weekly “Somehow, we here at Weekly HQ missed that the Rev. Wiley Drake of First Southern Baptist Church in Buena Park not only declared last week that the murder of Kansas abortion Dr. George Tiller had been the answer to his “imprecatory” prayers, but that the so-called Man of God later announced he’d made a similar prayer of death for President Barack Obama.”

Nice diversion, ryan_c. But does it change the fact that it is the LEFT who refers (in serious terms, rather than in mocking terms) the allusions to Obama and deity?
Didn’t think so. I can tell you are getting desperate when the broad-brushed, ridiculous assertions are made on your part (“the right wing is disgusting” ??? I sense a very false degree of piety and outrage).

“I see .. if someone characterizes the Pres, it must mean that he agrees and believes what they say about him……… fits very well into Republican dogma”
Huh?
Well, perhaps this is the case if one has liberal DNA: “If I read it, and I agree with it, it must be true”
Reminds me of the approach liberals use in passing judgement on those who pass along racial slurs: “If I agree with their politics, they are forgiven. Otherwise, no degree of contriteness will yield forgiveness.”

Who is more qualified ?

So many people have based their opinions of Sarah Palin on a caricature, not her character and accomplishments. ………….Those are misconceptions based upon misquotation, elitist journalism, misinformation and flat out lies.
Sarah Palin negotiate the largest private sector infrastructure project in the continent’s history,…Sarah is a student of Ronald Reagan. ..She believes that “promoting the general welfare” is about helping people realize their self-sufficiency, not their need to rely on government. ..She sees a strong national defense and energy independence as two key issues facing our nation. ..She believes in limited government as a means of encouraging development and advocates cutting taxes, thus providing jobs for many.

“She cut state spending every year she has been in office”
In June of 2007 Palin signed the largest budget in Alaska’s history.
Alaska is now facing serious budget deficits in 2009 and projected to 2010(much like other states) though theirs is tied to the price of oil falling.
Palin of course did not plan for that and quit on the people of Alaska to make her personal fortune.

Grasping at straws…
How does it feel to support a president and administration that has virtually all levers of power at its disposal and yet has proven so grossly incompetent over a period of 12 months? This is just the beginning…2009 is posed to look like the “good ol’ days” compared to what’s coming up in 2010.

The guy who is President.
I would also add his Vice President.
I would also add his election opponent for the office of President.
I would go on for quite a while bu the list of people more qualified than Palin to run for President but that would take far too long.
Think of the SNL bit on Presidential succession after Bush/Quayle came into office.

Which is why she increased oil royalty payments to Alaskan residents.
Ya know self sufficiency and all that jazz.

“She believes in limited government as a means of encouraging development and advocates cutting taxes, thus providing jobs for many.”
Here is the extent of Palin’s tax cut proposals as compiled by a conservative blogger
“A tax credit for film production in the state, offering about $20 million per year in breaks.
A cut in an annual business license fee from $100 to $25 (the legislature went half way to $50).
A one-year suspension of the state fuel tax to save taxpayers about $40 million.
A repeal of tire taxes to save taxpayers $2 million.
A tax credit for commercial salmon harvesting to save taxpayers about $2 million.”
From the same blogger
“Palin supported and signed into law a $1.5 billion tax increase on oil companies in the form of higher severance taxes.”
Yet again Palin’s actual record is a far cry from the lies she tells about herself.

“awwww poor tjp. Did the tea party people ask for your birth certificate before letting you in?”
Initially I tried to join the Democrats, but some questions arose regarding my skin color (some judged me as “too dark” (i.e., “too authentic”) – others judged me as “too light” (i.e., “not authentic”)).
I also ran into some problems when I took the Democrat Dialect Test (DDT) as I wasn’t able to turn off my Hispanic dialect as readily modifiable as the DNC overseers would have preferred. So, I was denied entry to the party, no DNC card for me.

Obama has lost that luster, point-by-point over a year, bleeding by a thousand small cuts until he nears 40 percent approval.
In themselves, the bad jokes like the flippant remark about the Special Olympics, the lunatic appointments like Anita Dunn and Van Jones, the serial untruths about airing the health-care debtae on C-SPAN or shunning lobbyists, the phony deadlines on Gitmo and the Iranians, the bribing of senators with hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayers’ funds, the bowing, the snubbing of the British, the use of the race card against tea-party critics, the Skip Gates mess, the Orwellian NEA business, constant fluff photos ops, but rare real press conferences — all that in the aggregate brought Obama to his present state.

Something is not consistent here…. Democrats outnumber Republicans, so why would Reid even care about pandering to the right-wing vote. Hmmm…. Me thinks he needed to cast his net a bit wider than you think….
BTW – It’s going to be a bit odd next year when the only Senator who by coincidence happens to be black will be a Republican from Texas (Michael L. Williams). Gasp! Texas of all places!
