Whither Health Care Reform If Brown Wins?

On MSNBC this morning, Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-NY, was asked about contingency plans, assuming Scott Brown wins today in Massachusetts, to have the House pass the Senate bill, as the White House is suggesting should happen.

"I think you can make a pretty good argument that health care might be dead," Weiner said. "I think it's going to be very hard to ask us in the House to take the Senate bill when everyone acknowledges it was a worse bill. Everyone said the only reason we were passing the Senate bill was to move the ball forward."

On Rep. Weiner's site http://countdowntohealthcare.com/ is this internet poll, which gives you an idea of where he (and many other progressive House Democrats) are coming from:

"Congressman Weiner will oppose the final bill unless it represents a genuine improvement on the Senate bill. What do you think?

"Agree. There's a limit to how many compromises we can accept.
"Disagree. The Senate bill isn't perfect, but it's good enough."

It will be a good day when Pelosi
gets on her broom and leaves
Washington. Her,Reid and Obama don’t get it. They have let their egos and
arrogance get in the way of common
sense. They have come off as left
wing loons. Rep.Dems and Independents
are not ready to hand over this country
to this nuts. The fringe may like this
but not regular people who they want
to dismiss as stupid and uninformed.

Republicans should not count their chickens. The pollsters have an innate flaw, in that they failed to poll the largest Democratic voting bloc: The cemeteries.

Message to Dems: If Brown wins and you don’t pass the senate bill, you will have betrayed Ted Kennedy and left your strongest supporters completely cold. Actually accomplish something or enjoy reliving 1980/1994.

This is the most liberal…left wing state there is. Democrats outnumber Republicians 3-1.. And we are here talking about a Democrat loss.. This in itself is a repudiation of Barrack Obama and his government takeover of America

Go Scott Brown! Hopefully, this election will not be handled ACORN-style.
The HC Bill a terrible bill and it should be dead. Why were there so many back-room deals? What happened to transparency and posting on C-SPAN?
Maybe now the idiots in Congress can focus on what’s important to everyone in this country: CUTTING SPENDING AND CREATING JOBS.
This is the most corrupt administration in American History. We need to stop the Obama/Pelosi/Reid trainwreck.

Sums up the Republican base in five words, fire people (cut spending means firing government employees, firing private contractors, firing soldiers, and firing companies supplying the government) AND create jobs! I’m starting to think Republicans really do think Obama rides a unicorn and burps gold.

wis134; why do you say that Pelosi should get on her broom. Are you comparing her to something nefarious??

This is the most transparent major bill ever seen in our nation’s history. Name one, single bill that has had more hours of televised floor debate – meaningful debate that amended and changed the bill. Name any bill, ever, that has had town halls about it in almost every district. Committee meetings have been televised, markups and drafts released, numerous CBO analysis released directly to the public in full.
This IS THE MOST TRANSPARENT BILL PROCESS IN THE HISTORY OF OUR NATION. If you disagree with that, NAME ANY BILL, EVER THAT HAS HAD MORE HOURS OF PUBLIC DEBATE, MORE HOURS OF TELEVISED SENATE DEBATE, MORE HOURS OF TELEVISED HOUSE DEBATE… I think you get the idea.
I’ll settle for “most transparent in the history of our nation” while continuing to push for “perfect”.

The people don’t want this. This process is not transparent- we don’t even know what Pelosi et.al. are doing now.Was the deal with Nelson above board? How about Landrieu? It really doesn’t matter what happened with other bills.Barack Obama said the process would be on C-SPAN.He was talking about THIS BILL.And it is not happening now.

The process on this bill has been the most transparent major bill creation our nation has ever seen, to the point you can name the ugliest parts specifically including who specifically got them in there. That’s transparency.

Poll: Majority Oppose Health Care Reform
And this taken from this page, upper right….But the ignorance and stupidity of the democrats to force this bill onto people that do NOT want it shows they do NOT represent America.
If a state that is 3-1 democrat repudiates Obama today.. then maybe the left wing liars will start posting on Russian and Chinese websites where they belong

Hopefully,
The HC bill will be dumped into the trash bin of history’s really bad ideas very soon.
If the dems win this special election though – socialized medicine will be the law of the land.
Imagine Jefferson spinning in his grave as we are at the brink of a day in which citizen are FORCED to buy insurance by the gov’t.
For the sake of LIBERTY, let’s hope Brown wins today.

This is a joke right?
Were the CSpan cameras there win the “Lousiana Purchase” was negotiated?
Where they they when the deal for Floriadians got to keep Medicare Advantage while everyone in the other 49 states lost it?
Were the cameras there when Nebraska negotiated that it wouldn’t have to pay Medicaide taxes – EVER AGAIN?
Were the carmeras there when Mutual of Omaha got it’s special carve out?
Were the cameras there when the Union members got to skip out on the taxes that everyone else will have to pay?
And is there anything suspicious about the late, late night votes? The Friday night votes? The Saturday night votes? The Christmas eve vote?

And please folks, please don’t forget that when this ball got rolling, the dems attempte to cram this massive government takeover down our throats in just a matter of days.
It was only the grass-roots outrage, and it’s impact on moderate dems that prevented it being signed into law in days.
Had Reid, Pelosi, and Obama had their d’urthers, they’d have been clinking glasses over their massively expanded powers while the fire flies were still flying.

Speaking of gold, another golden post from the oracle.
Just a quick overview of this -
There is simply no comparison between the money multiplier impact of a government (ineffecient always, make-work, often) and a private sector job in which a person is performing work in which the market places value.
It’s almost as if you believe that people should simply be “provided” jobs just for the sheer sake of having a job.
Laughable.

This is some of the most inane nonsense I’ve ever read.
The first thing that happens here is that the poster asks a question virtually nobody could answer – not because she’s making a valid point, but because the statistics are so obscure that there may not be anyone that could actually respond.
Who reading this knows how many hours were spent debating the 1955 budget? Or how many hours were spent debating the 17th amendment? Or the approval of Justic Bryer? Or even the minutia of much less monumental decisions?
I would venture to guess that the discussion about regulation of tobacco back during the 90′s took much more time – and was discussed more publicly than this.
Have you ever sat and watched the hours and hours of grilling that take place about specific things going on in the Ag department?
In short, the answer to the question is, probably the majority of bills of much less historic import have been more transparent than this bill.

Nonsense. I agree with the other poster – this health insurance reform bill has received more coverage, has had more hours documented on C-SPAND and the public has had more information than any other bill in the entire history of the country.
We all know exactly the various concessions being made to pass the bill. None of that has been kept from the public.
Various versions of the entire bills have been posted for examination by anyone who cares to examine them – including non-government experts, hired researchers, citizens . .. anyone.
The process in all its messy glory has been available for the public and the antagonists to scrutinize.
This openness may have even shocked parts of the American public who are used to these deals and details being hidden and buried.

This is the right answer.
Anyone here pretending that this was anything other than a massive collection of corrupt bargains arranged behind closed doors is EXTREMELY dishonest.
There is no other way to say it.

Your point here does NOT over-ride the fact that the deal was still done behind closed doors.
If you chat for 50,000 hours about something in front of the cameras, then make the “real” deal behind closed doors – what trophy are you looking for in regards to the 50k hours in front of the cameras?
It means nothing.

Ah well, now the Dems in the Senate have the excuse they have been hoping for all along to do precisely nothing and kick the health care can down the road another decade and a half. And to fold up like a cardboard box on command from the Republicans as seems to be their m.o. What amazes me is how few Americans seem to realize that this country’s politics are nothing but a dog and pony show. Ask yourselves: What kind of health care reform idea takes single payer off the table before the discussion starts, promises to try to make up for it with a “robust public option” before whittling that out of the package then promises a Medicare buy-in option and even cuts THAT out of the bill, early in the dealmaking even agreeing literally in a backroom deal with Big Pharma to NOT use the federal government’s leverage to negotiate better (i.e. less than highway robbery) prices for prescription drugs? Answer: One that was never serious about really reforming health care in the first place. Not that it should come as a surprise to anyone who bothered to look into the fellatio of the insurance companies that was Illinois state Sen. Barack Obama’s effort at (pretending to be) reforming the state’s uninsured situation that at every turn catered to the needs of Big Pharma and the H.M.O.s, crafting a bill to their liking rather than the people of Illinois. And not that it should come as a surprise that Obama is such a liberal that he has escalated the war in Afghanistan, throws money at Wall Street, has a secretary of education who turns predominantly black inner city schools into recruiting funnels run by and for the Army, praises Reagan and plays golf with the chairman of United Bank of Scotland.
Allow me to explain how American presidential politics actually works, starting with a question: Does anyone here really, honestly think that every four years the billionaires that own this country give themselves ulcers and acid reflux worrying about whether the masses will finally elect a genuine reformer who will derail their gravy train? Hell no. Of course they simply do what they’ve been doing, buying all the major candidates from both hardly dissimilar parties (the openly corporate stooge Republicans and the closet corporate stooge Democrats) then stepping back to watch all their puppets tear each others’ guts out to see who can be the best puppet of the ruling elite. May the best mannequin win! Because at that point the uber-wealthy class doesn’t care since it knows that whichever one wins it will certainly be someone already in their pocket. Face it America: All you’re allowed to vote for as a candidate for president is a conservative, either one openly operating or one that’s in the closet. It’s not a genuine process when all the choices are controlled by the same bunch of elitists. Wake up and smell the plastic of your fake democracy.
