Bush and Cheney Reunite, First Since Leaving Office
ABC News’ Kim Randolph reports:
Former President George W. Bush and former Vice President Dick Cheney today met face to face for the first time since leaving office over a year ago – and just three days after Cheney was hospitalized for a fifth heart attack.
Cheney and Bush, both sporting dark suits, shook hands and exchanged grins on the steps of Cheney’s residence in McLean, Va., before turning to wave to the ABC News camera.
“Mr. President, welcome,” began Cheney.
“Lookin’ good,” replied Bush.
“Holding up,” said Cheney.
“Lookin’ good,” said Bush again.
“Could be worse,” said Cheney.
The two then waved to the camera and disappeared inside, where they met for over an hour. Neither camp would comment about what the two discussed.
Cheney and Bush were both slated to attend tomorrow’s closed-press gathering of Bush administration alumni at the JW Marriott in Washington, but Cheney has since withdrawn his attendance because of his health condition.
Cheney invited Bush to have coffee at his home today since Bush was already scheduled to be in town for the Marine Corps University Foundation gala dinner this evening.
The former president has been largely invisible since he left the White House 13 months ago. Bush is working on his presidential memoirs and new foundation at his home in Dallas and giving occasional speeches to business groups. He has shown up at two Dallas Cowboys games, sitting with team owner Jerry Jones, but life for Bush post-presidency has been relatively low-key.
In contrast, Cheney has kept himself in the public eye, selectively choosing interviews and appearances to deliver stinging rebukes of the Obama Administration. Just this week, Cheney predicted that Obama will be a “one-term president.” After the thwarted Christmas Day bomb plot, Cheney said that Obama was “trying to pretend we are not at war” with terrorists.
ABC News’ Devin Dwyer and Karen Travers contributed to this report.

Ahhh, those were the good old days….

It is soooo hilarious that liberals continue to ridicule President Bush and call him a “stupid guy” or an “idiot.”
He had record LOW inflation and record LOW unemployment for five of the eight years that he served as President (even in the face of the 9/11 economic crash). The economy went south only AFTER the liberals in the Democratic Party took over and allowed Barney Frank and Christopher Dodd to mess up the housing and banking industries!
If Bush was an “bumbling idiot” but kept the nation safe and prosperous during most of his tenure — then what is Obama?
Obama must be the first president to ever look smart simply because he can speak well? Thank you, Affirmative Action, for allowing a D+ community college student (Barry Obama…look it up) to transfer to Columbia…based solely on the color of his skin and ability to pay someone to write essays that share some of his ignorantly liberal economic views.
I can’t wait to vote out Obama in 2012…and any liberals in 2010.

Isn’t it just like liberals to vilify, ridicule and demonize anyone who disagrees with their leftist views?
If you don’t agree with homosexual marriage — liberals call you a “homophobe” or “bigot.” They forget that they are blatantly intolerant to anyone who has religious, cultural, or moral views that differ from their own (or lack thereof).
If you don’t want socialize health care — liberals call you an “elitist” (even though I am both highly educated and still lower middle class).
If you are in favor of the Patriot Act — liberals claim that you are against “civil liberties.”
If you are opposed to tax increases — liberals call you a “zealot,” an “extremist” or label you as “unpatriotic.”
There is no room for tolerance in the Democratic Party. Apparently, there is no room for “democracy” either — since they don’t care what the majority of voters want. It truly is “tyranny of the liberal minority.”

I felt relief and sorrow when I saw this video. Relief to see a man who has such class and presidential quality…sorrow when I thought about how horrible this administration is now. No one can say these guys weren’t as patriotic as it gets and truly loves our country…I can’t say that for the current spin artists. All these people talk about the 8 hard yrs of Bush…it’s funny how he was able to get re-elected in such a landslide if things were so horrible. I don’t think so….
Posted by: Jules | February 25, 2010, 8:33 pm 8:33 pm
Hmmm… let me think. How did I feel about the experienced, policy people Bush had in his cabinet when 9/11 occurred? Thankful. How will I feel when another attack occurs under this administration, with it’s constant campaign-mode, form-over-substance advisors? Wondering whatever happened to those Greek columns.

Sad that progs/libs are so infuriated by a man that on the one hand was so “stupidly, moronic,” but diabolical enough to convince the whole world that Iraq had WMDs.
Don’t confuse facts with fiction. Saddam Hussein and his Ba’ath party were actively seeking weapons of mass destruction throught the entire world. On the eve of the March 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq, Iraqi Air Force General Georges Sada himself oversaw the transport of biological and chemical arms to Syria by Russian operatives weeks before the engagement. Allied troops found mustard and sarin gas canisters buried around Iraq. Isn’t that proof of WMDs? Bush/ Cheney were simply enforcing U.N. sanction after sanction imposed before Bush and Cheney even took office. Bush made the American military AND the U.N. Security Council relevant again.
On the economy, Bush’s tax cuts propelled the economy for essentially four straight years of growth and over 48 months of continuous job growth. However the only complaints one ever heard was “where are the ‘good’ jobs?” I bet the 15 million unemployed would take a ‘bad’ job over not having a job at all. . .
Bush gave more money to combat AIDS in Africa, but of course, was never commended for that act of generosity. Mr. Bush put our country and its people above partisan politics and petty sniping. I don’t think Bush ever blamed Clinton for the dot-com bust that occurred under Clinton’s administration. I could go on but again the facts outweigh the fictious lies that the media and wimpy liberals continue to spout.

The impotent rage I read here is funny only in that it mirrors the impotent rage when GWB was in office. The harder the pendulum swings when the other side gets in office, the quicker it will swing back the other way next time. These two draft-dodging anti-american pro-Wall Street bozos deserve every shred of derision heaped upon them. Bush at least gets points for having the class to shut his pie hole after leaving office.

Looking good G.W.
I would like to state that I am not a republican but I do not like what the Democrats are doing to the parties perception now. Take Washington State for example. There was a bill passed several years ago that anything that was going to be passed needed a 2/3 majority to pass that was voted in by the people. The Governor changed it this week where it is no longer law and also changed law where they do not need to state who voted for what. Appears dirty and a way to force things of your agenda in if people want it or not.
I used to be a proud Democrat.. Now I am a disappointed Democrat. And all those who think the economy was because of these two. Think again. It was my favorite Presidents fault for allowing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac stuff. Good job President Clinton. But, thanks for all the other stuff you did.

I believe the role of government should be limited, in accordance with our constitution; and this standpoint is VERY correct given our world’s history.
Being thus an adherent to the idea of “small government,” I disliked Bush for being an overreaching, shortsighted big-government type who (along with most of the ne’er-do-well Republicans from the Clinton years onward) missed a great opportunity to scale back a morbidly bloated bureaucracy….
…To say the least about W’s shortcomings.
That aside, when I see the purple-lipped whiner Obama running around trying persistently to continue forcing this healthcare “reform” crap that nobody wants — doing this to the exclusion (and probably to the detriment) of the VERY REAL and VERY DIRE unemployment and economic concerns — when I see this, it makes me sick.
Obama is like a painfully bad joke. Not even funny. When I perceive this narcissistic hack and his cozening rhetoric and brazen hypocrisy, it is indeed difficult not to answer the “miss me yet?” question with a sobbing, desperate “YES!”

Another lost soul. Sorry, but the Democrats didn’t take over until 2009. Before that they only had a simple majority. Not enough votes to overcome a filibuster. Not enough votes to override a Bush veto. Don’t believe me? Then name the bills that the Democrats passed and Bush signed or the bills that the democrats passed and then overrode a Bush veto that caused our collapse. I won’t wait for an answer because people like YOU never have one. BTW, Dodd and Frank did NOT cause our problems. You are totally ill informed.

The thing I find the most amazing about the comments here is the polarization of the opinions. It’s all LOVE or HATE, but nothing in-between. That is the real legacy of the post-George HW Bush politics: success at all costs, divisiveness be damned. Until EVERYONE is willing to focus on what makes us the same instead of what makes us different our country is destined to flounder. While the Republican leadership of the early 90s started this little trend, the Democrats quickly saw its power and adopted the approach. It needs to end now, on both sides of the aisle.

KM posted “Remember 5% unemployment? Remember when Bush and McCain tried to investigate Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae but were stifled by the Democrats?”
I remember McCain signing on to a bill about Freddie/Fannie after it sat in committee for a year. I remember the Republicans could have moved that bill to the floor and didn’t. I remember that bill had NOTHING to do with our financial collapse. I remember the crash starting in 2006 under Bush. I LOVE it when a poster like you says “Bush kept us safe” while ignoring the FACT that 9/11 happened under his watch.

When W was President the unemployment in my state was 3.5%. It is now 11%. Yes, you bet that I miss them! The economy started dropping when the dems took the Congress in 2006. Only the Congress has the ability to tax and spend. Wake up people! This country is becoming more like Argentina, everyday. I am surprised that so many reporters want national healthcare. They will not be exempted, as will the members of the three branches of government. I guess people in the media aren’t as smart as they want everyone to believe.

Funny you think that Molly. I was tempted to post this comment: “Well that’s the Scarecrow (Bush – no brains) and the Tin Man (Cheney – no heart), where are the Cowardly Lion and Dorothy?”
It’s all a matter of perspective, isn’t it?

I couldn’t wait til they got out of office. Now I miss both of them. Obama is a not presidential material. Bush has 100X more class and was 100X more focused on America’s security. Funny how Bush seemed like such a dolt… til Obama showed up. Obama is bar none a complete failure at this point. Iraq will liberated. And Bush will be its liberator.

b102; you do understand that the Republicans are in the minority in both the House and Senate, right? And that, until Brown, the Democrats could pass legislation without a single Republican vote, right? So… who’s obstructing whom?
Further… do you recall who was in the majority for a few years at the end of Bush’s term? Democrats!
And as far as race goes? One party fought for slavery in the Civil war. One party used dogs and fire hoses in an effort to prevent school segregation. One party has a KKK Grand Dragon in the Senate. And one party gains from keeping the various races apart. Can you guess who that one party is? Democrats.

“Pres. Bush’s presidency will be judged in a much better light 10 years from now.” Only if the Iraq war turns out as intended as a shining example of democracy in the Middle East. My wager is on a stronger Iran as the unintended consequence of this little adventure. Destabilizing the region at a cost of just 3 Trillion dollars for our children to pay, not to mention the thousands of lives lost and innocents killed.

I find it strange that liberals think that it’s an effective tool. As a conservative, I can say – unequivocally, that the ONLY people I hear mentioning race are liberals. I think you are obsessed and therefore project your own racism unto everyone else. Get it through your thick skull – Obama could be any color, it’s his policies we don’t agree with.

Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney,
I want to offer a sincere thank you for your hard work and leadership. Lesser men would’ve done less.
Your administration did what it thought was necessary for the sake of America.
I’m sure Osama and the jihadists wish they’d have attacked when a democrat was President. Now they understand.
Both you and the Honorable Mr. Rumsfeld were the right men at the right time.
Stay strong in mind and body.

If you htink that Bush and Cheny look bad just think in 3 more years. Obama isn’t going to look any better especially if thing don’t get better.
The economy went down hill because of many reasons in cluding people being so scared that they decided to stop buying. People slowed down buying stocks. People stopped buying bonds. People layed people off because people stopped buying things.
Peole lost their homes because banks kicked the people out of their homes because they could not make their payments.
There is a lot more I could say.

Yeah, I remember when we had adults in the White House. Now we have a socialist whose interest is in taking your money and giving it to the less fortunate and evening the masses access to a lower quality of health care for all! Except for the rulers themselves, the Congress people, health care will be what the feudal serfs had as far as the Royal’s access to food, the first fruits will go to ruling class, the American people will get their scraps.
One health care for the Government and their alumnai, and a second class staus for the rest of us. The super rich will just fly out of the country to places like Costa Rica which is already setting up high class health care facilities to get ready for Health Care vacations.

Nice Job Mr President Bush and Vice President Cheney. You did a fine job protecting us considering that the RENO-Gorelick mistake gave President Bush the castrated CIA from the illicit love nest of Clinton. What better could they have done? CIA that RENO decided could not tell the FBI that we had terrorists about to strike 9-11 was certain to happen…sometime.
I can see it now. IF the CIA had broken the RENO-GORELICK regulations and told the FBI what they knew, you can rest assured that HOLDER-OBAMA would be searching for a way to demonize them and then put them in prison.

Look, the current administration has had 13 months to “fix” the economy and not only hasn’t but can’t. Iran, just like Cuba in JFK’s day, is laughing at us. The common bond THERE is that the Russians backed and are bacing again this world-wide terror mechanism.
It is time we had a government slimmed down to a manageable workable size and one that draws a line and when that line is crossed, “let it all hang out.”
If Bush/Cheney had NOT acted in Iraq today it would be Iran, Iraq AND Afganistan together ruling an unstoppable, irrepressible force. If you think otherwise you are a moron!

Racism? OK. You might forget that in this country, jobs are handed to minorities over Whites based solely on race.
College scholarships and Admission give extra special treatment to any non-White.
Even Bill Gates has decreed that all is scholarship money should go to non Whites.
So yes, institutional racism is alive and well in the US.
Keep playing the race card. Before long Whites will be gone and so will your social programs.

At long last, we now have a very powerful, intelligent president in office who thinks before he does. A president who can take command. That should be very important to us all.
What a good feeling that is.
