Feb 18, 2010 1:28pm

ABC News’ Z. Byron Wolf and Jonathan Karl report: Former VP Dick Cheney made a surprise visit at CPAC today.

He walked out to chants of "Cheney" and a standing ovation.

"A welcome like that is almost enough to make me want to run for office," he said. "But I'm not going to do it."

He talked about making way for a new generation and said, "I think Barack Obama is a one-term President."

His daughter, Liz Cheney slammed the White House on its terrorism policies.

She quoted her daughter, speaking of Obama's plan to shutter the detainee center at Guantanamo Bay, "Man, use your brain, dude, that's totally stupid."

She said the president "should stop apologizing for this great nation and start defending it."

"President Obama, you will never silence us!"
