Does Snowmageddon = A Snow Day at the White House?

ABC News' Sunlen Miller reports: As the second massive storm continues to pummel Washington, D.C. with snow, the Senate and the House have called off votes, the Federal Government is shut down, and most Washington, DC area schools are closed. But when you’re the president, do you really get a snow day like most everyone else inside-the-beltway? Not entirely. Having a short commute from the White House residence to the West Wing, the president is working today, the White House says, but his schedule has been pared down.  He’ll have no public events, but will be meeting behind-closed-doors with African American leaders about the economy and jobs in the Oval Office in the late morning.  Mr. Obama’s regular morning briefings – the Presidential Daily Briefing and the Economic Daily Briefing – were done via teleconference. As the day progresses, White House aides say, the president will continue to be updated either by phone or paper. So when the boss is working, White House aides are also working either from home or (for the brave-few who ventured into the White House this morning) from the quiet West Wing. With the impending storm looming, White House staff were told Tuesday night to take their secure laptops home with them and would be expected to work from home today. Most did so with the exception of a few. Obama’s top counter-terrorism advisor John Brennan was spotted in the halls of the West Wing. White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, Deputy White House Communications Director Jen Psaki, and Chair of the Council of Economic Advisors, Christina Romer – made it into work as well, among other senior staff.  But many others, like White House press secretary Robert Gibbs and Senior White House advisor David Axelrod are working from home. The daily press briefing by Gibbs was off the schedule. And the normally-busy White House lower press office’s door was still locked as of noon. Even those staffers that live close enough to walk to the White House were cautioned against trying to make it to work in the blizzard-like conditions this morning. A music night concert at the White House originally scheduled for tonight was moved up one day earlier before the storm shut down the city. Not on the president’s public schedule, but perhaps in the cards with both his daughters home on a snow day from school, could be a little sledding on the snow-covered South Lawn. -Sunlen Miller

I’m glad he got to have his party last night.

The two big snowstorms on Washington may be a foreshadow that the Gods are not happy with Mr. Obama and his administration.

young_voter – how ridiculous. Oh, I forgot, you’re republican so that explains it. LOL!

Obama has been doing a “Snow Job” on the American people since he took office, so a “Snow Day” is nothing to him, except he has to see the mean looking Michelle Obama all day; now that is scary.

Even Mother nature feels the need to dump a little on the White House!

Best wishes to the President as he tries to get through a day without playing golf or hosting a party.
It’s not so cold that he’s unable to keep the thermostat at 85, is it? I’d hate for him to be so uncomfortable he had to put on one of those old suit jackets just to go into the Oval Office.

Unbelievable and sarcastic comments. The next time you have a crisis you’re dealing with, I hope I stand on the sideline and mock you!
Wouldn’t want them over to my house regardless of the topic. Do these people even delve into the news or are they spoon fed their ‘news” by Faux News.

Only washington and the in Obama bed press will come up with names for the storm. You watch’ a bill will be out to finace something in a hurry because it snoed. While the rest of the country deals with the snows wwe get DC needs to pass a bill to even talk about it.

Must put a real damper on his Air Force One travel. Other than that, he has an Oval office, lots of communication, and a telephone…..what’s the problem?

Steve – Only the left will come up with a name like this. Its is set up for (future funding) They will try and pass a bill to stop snow and Pelosi will jump over fences to cram it down our throats

FTA: “But when you’re the president, do you really get a snow day like most everyone else inside-the-beltway? Not entirely.”
Man, it’s too bad the press wasn’t as generous and fair to Bush as they are to Obama. People like, pamp205, might have a more honest and equitable perspective.
Just more of that good ol’ MSM liberal bias . . .

ALL REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMEN should quit receiving their GOV’T HEALTH CARE package! I’m sick of my tax dollars going for that pinko health care coverage! Don’t they know gov’t health care sucks? They obviously have to wait for months to see a doctor and no doubt their doctors suck as well. For a year they’ve been telling us how bad gov’t health care is. So they obviously would rather be paying the same skyrocketing premiums we do – just like the original patriots. And if some of those older Congressmen don’t qualify for coverage, well they’re just lazy and want a hand out . Now I have to believe that our fine upstanding Republican Congressmen have simply forgotten to cancel their Commie-Socialist health care policies. So let’s write our good Congressmen and remind them to drop their coverage. They’ll want to do it because otherwise they’d just look like obstructionist hypocrites. And we all know that’s just not the case.

Lower Taxes, Smaller Gov’t, Less Spending, Decrease Deficit…I’ve heard this from Republicans my entire life.
But in the last 60 years NOT ONE Republican President ever lowered the deficit, decreased spending, submitted a balanced budget, or reduced the size of government. Not W, Bush Sr, Reagan, Ford, or Nixon.
Why should anyone believe that they are going to anything differently? History says in practice they do otherwise.
People like Palin and other Pubs are again giving us the same rhetoric. And once again, they’ve proposed no real solutions, just the same empty platitudes and attacks.
Bush and Reagan did cut taxes. But at the same time Bush doubled the deficit and Reagan tripled it! And the tax rates under Reagan were over 10% higher than they are now. (I never realized we were all “socialists” under Reagan. Who knew?)
To say reducing taxes caused economic growth ignores the impact of the massive spending they did. Seems the “new” Republicans like to cherry pick and then try to re-write history.
So how about instead of pointing fingers at the current President and blaming him for all the ills of the nation – which was a bi-partisan effort started years before he came into office – how about looking at who’s really stopping progress.
This political BS is not about spending, because the self proclaimed “fiscal conservatives” never said anything while we borrowed billions for the last administration’s pet projects. It’s obviously about politics.
And if Americans ever really want to lower our debt, we’ll have to face reality, quit expecting easy solutions, and accept that taxes will have to go up. We will never tax-cut our way out of debt. We’ve been deficit spending since 1957, time to pay it back.

Glen Beck – lost Starkist. That’s 102 sponsors lost so far! Guess ranting paranoid delusionals who endorse hate filled propaganda just aren’t that good for business anymore.
