Former Counter-Terrorism Czar on Latest Plots: There Probably “Will Be Another Attempt”
Dick Clarke joined me on GMA today. He was counter-terrorism czar under Clinton and Bush, and he tried to calm American citizens by saying we should not “head for our bunkers” following that alarming testimony from Dennis Blair and Leon Panetta: that an attempted Al Qaeda attack on US soil is “certain” in the next six months..
“CIA directors always say this, once a year, in an annual threat briefing. And they always predict there's going to be another attempt. Another attempt does not mean another successful attack,” Clarke said. And he expressed great confidence in the FBI’s intelligence gathering techniques “The FBI is good at getting people to talk…they have been much more successful than the previous attempts of torturing people and trying to convince them to give information that way. The FBI does it right.”
In addition, he warned that instead of a deadly 9/11 style attack, the next significant terror attempt MAY be online, “The Google attacks, the attacks on the Pentagon. Every day, corporations lose their intellectual properties, their corporate secrets, without knowing it, to hacks. This takes away our economic advantage.”

The war with Islam will continue far into the future, and indeed I fully expect WW III will eventually occur. All Iran is waiting for, is nuclear warheads.

George is quickly becoming my favorite interviewer…I always found his political contributions very imforming but he is the king when it comes to controversial topics. His interviews make you feel like you received a full serving of meat & potatoes and not a load of “fluff”…and he does it without disrespecting the person he’s interviewing. Awesome Job & Keep it Up!

Yep it will happen. We have killed so many Muslims over the years. Many of their loved ones are kind of mad at us. The one million folks in Iraq that Clinton’s sanctions took out probably created a couple of million people that cheer when one of our GIs gets killed. We need to try to stop these attacks all the while knowing that they are justified. Change foreign policy.

Islamic extremists aren’t the only group that we have to worry about. There is always North Korea. How many times and for how many decades are we going to continue to bribe them and their bizarre leader with more money and aid? It seems to me that the leader of that country would be more then willing to sell weapons grade plutonium or uranium to anyone who is willing to pay the most for it.
Excuse me but, last I heard, Osama bin Laden’s family was one of the wealthiest families in Saudi Arabia. He and his “band of merry men” have been quietly recieving the financial backing of many wealthy Muslims. It doesn’t require much of a leap to conclude that if an extremist group wants the materials to make a devastating weapon they can get them from North Korea if the price is right.

Not to worry! US will soon withdraw its soldiers from afgh’n and iraq. That’ll end terrorism and any threats against americans.
Curioso appears that 7, or 700, or is it 7 k of the terrorists in afgh’n, not one has to date lifted a finger against even one american.
The game is still going on but the score is still zero for pashtuns and a few k for US/nato.
And for iraqis also and for american the score is, they say, one mn, with four mn refugees
And the game is not over. And most importantly, with that kind of score, nobody in US watches the game! tnx

Too bad Odumbo is not bright enough to know how to protect America. Or could it be that he has no desire to protect us?

Joyce I couldn’t disagree with you more, George is so much in the tank for the Democrats that he could fill in for that nut on MSNBC Olbermann, what a slimeball. As far as no Fluff from George you must have missed him serving up those softball questions to Obama during and after the election, like what kind of dog are you going to get and what are you going to name your dog and what is Michelle going to wear.No questions of substance from George or Charlie Gibson, just fawning over Obama’s every move, meanwhile the country is going to hell in a handbasket,Meat and Potatoes indeed.

Haven’t we known all along that attempts to attack the U.S. would be on-going? There is nothing shocking about this…. unless you count the comments on this blog. Sometimes I wonder who the real terrorists are!

blogger-Depends who you ask. Those 1 million Iraqis killed by our sanctions during the 90s would say that we are the terrorists. All about perspective. One must study history to understand why motive is there and how to defuse the situation. Cheers.

700 military bases in 130 countries overseas… I’d say just to worry about a threat from Muslim extremists is doing pretty good considering all of the people who are sick of American forces occupying their countries for no reason other than economic and political hegemony.
Your telling me Japan can’t have an army? Germany? Why are we paying for it? Let them defend their own countries and pay for it themselves. It’s NOT our job to die defending foreign lands.
I thought international disputes were to be resolved through the UN. Why does America’s armed forces defend other borders while ours are undefended? Talk about a national security risk. This is a JOKE!
