GMA’s Morning Mix: A Look at This Week’s Hot Topics

Today on GMA's Morning Mix I chatted with the Washington Post's Howard Kurtz, Daily Beast editor in chief Tina Brown and political columnist and author Meghan McCain about some of the hottest topics of the week.

For starters Jon Stewart stopped by "The O'Reilly Factor" to discuss criticism of President Obama.  Asked how he thought the President was doing Stewart quipped "I feel like I can't tell if he's a Jedi master playing chess on a three-level board way ahead of us or if this is kicking his a**."

Kurtz said of Stewart that he "is a cultural bellwether. And that he does reflect the disillusionment of many liberal commentators who had given their hearts to Obama and are now having second thoughts".

Tina Brown pointed out "The problem for Obama is he basically campaigned for 14 months on a completely different America, really. It was all about, I'm not Bush.  I'm going to bring everyone together.  I'm going to close Guantanamo Bay, I'm going to give you health care…But at the point he's elected, the whole scenario changes.  It's like the curtain comes down. America is a gridlocked, broke place."

Brown also had something to say about Sarah Palin who this weekend will speak at the national Tea Party convention in Nashville and is embroiled in a bit of controversy for accepting a speaking fee for her appearance at a convention aimed at fostering more money and support for her own causes. "One thing you can guarantee about Sarah Palin,” says Brown, “is she's going to make out like a bandit. She knows how to do it."

The other hot topic of the week was the revenge of the wronged.  From Andrew Young firing back at his old boss John Edwards to Jenny Sanford breaking her silence after the infidelities of her husband, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford.

With John Edwards, some have criticized main stream media for not reporting the story, leading the National Enquirer to finally break it.  "Where was the press when this was going on?" said McCain, "Who was reporting on this?  When you find out later on that many people in the press did know about the affair that was going on, it could have completely changed the course of the election. Talk to Hillary Clinton about how she feels. Why aren't the press doing their job?"

The problem was, not many people recognized the first act of the play. Now that it is the second act, the reality is setting in, and they realize, they were watching a play, and not reality.
The rather obvious manipulation of the unemployment numbers, show just how bad a position the Dems are in. Now they must lie, to keep face.

This could not have been a more one sided conversation. When is ABC going to wake up to why Fox is so popular. This was painful to watch.

George, this roundtable is *awesome*. I think GMA gives you more opportunities to have the types of discussions that I think the Sunday morning shows should be having: younger people, a more diverse set of issues, more colored personalities. I don’t watch GMA broadcast but have watched almost every video posted on your blog since you started. Congrats.

This entire interview reveals why the press/media is out of touch and regardless of the political persuasion, they were so busy trying to make their candidate the “winner,” they assisted America in losing. First, to the Death Editor, your comment on the State of America by Obama, failed to capture the times many postracial folk wanted to hear, “we have achieved MLK’s dream.” Proof this was the first year the repetitive line, “a person being judged by the content of their character . . .” and then to top it off, Mrs. Death with Mr. Washington had the audacity to forget that the reason Hillary 18 million points of lights failed because Hillary like McCain’s team (not the City) was so busy attempting to find dirt on Obama, they chose to overlook the White guy who looked like them, and if you want more proof re-read your own headlines how daily, YOUR writings attempted to make racial America post racial. Angry? You bet I am. For the Tea Party that you bragged about are full of it taking us away again from the truth of what plaques America and as long as you George continue this type of Stewart-O’Reilly news only makes America looks as foolish as others make us! You, Mr. Moderator honestly and sincerely need individuals who actually have nothing to lose to speak – as opposed to make your mark with persons who have something to always prove an end up manifestin themselves as the “elite!”

I rarely watched GMA,but now I am watching only to see George Stephanopoulos. I miss him so on This Week and do not watch that after seeing a few without him. Now I am starting to watch GMA. I love George doing this mini Round Table. He looks much most at home in this role and does it great. It certainly adds to the substance of the program. I wish this segment was longer. He is adding to the show as a whole.

It seems to me that every country, biker, street, or mafia gang is basicly structured the same: There is the capo, frontman, and hitman.
US system of gangster rule consists of cia-army;i.e.,the hitman; congress-WH-media being the front man for damage control and telling people what is not going on; and the invisible but smellable capo or plutos.
But dear folks we have been ruled by gangsters for at least 10k yrs. Or can a child become a king with vast possessions unless he wld not behave as a thief?
Americans welcome back to urnanshe’s sumer of 6k yrs ago. BHO et al wld have loved his structure of ‘governance’[read please despotism] tnx

is it possible that George Stephanopolous will return
to ‘This Week’?

A great woman will become President of America one day, but Palin won’t be that woman. She isn’t an Albright, or a Hillary Clinton, or even A Condilesse Rice. She just isn’t or won’t ever be prepared for this type of job. She’ll quit when she gets her first few lawsuits. She has precedent, she quit Alaska’s governship for lawsuits.

Palin is to President Obama as Cindy Sheehan was to President George W. Bush. Palin didn’t lose a son as Sheehan did, but Palin did lose a political race to the White House. Palin has revenge and hate towards President Obama, and wants him out of office ASAP. She wants to continue chaos and keep this administration from being effective and efficient for the American people. That’s obstructionism, and should be treated as treason.

I am a big everyday fan of GMA, and I love the crew, but I have to admit, after watching George for years on “This Week”, I was surprised when he took, what I consider, a fluff job. Today, he’s interviewing Jenny Sanford, which he has always done exceptionally well, and then he switches to Valentine’s Day presents for under $25. I relied on George to get me through the political mumbo-jumbo (although I still wonder how
George Will ever got a job), and none of the people who are on now, while knowledgeable, do it for me. I WANT GEORGE BACK ON “THIS WEEK”….I MISS HIM TELLING ME WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON!!!!!

The perfect attorney who indicated that the woman who was stalked and shot to death in Florida should have done more to protect herself prior to being shot by a madman—should leave town himself. He is worthless as far as I am concerned. The judge who did not issue a restraining order and follow up with the police picking up and jailing this jerk, should resign!!! Abuse is abuse is abuse and needs to be dealt with in a serious manner. Stalking is abuse!!!!

So when Lou Dobbs was asked what an illegal alien looked like and he answered its someone without valid identification, why didn’t it occur to anyone to ask if the Arizona police will be fitted with xray goggles which allow them to look into peoples pockets, wallets, and purses? Or is everyone expected to walk around with the IDs hanging around their neck? As usual the ‘liberal’ media falls on its face when it comes to challenging right wing dumb talk.
