Will There Be a Bipartisan Health Care Reform Summit? We Shall See
House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, and House Minority Whip Eric Cantor, R-Va., sent a letter to White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel about the president's proposed health care reform summit today, asking if the "President is sincere about moving forward on health care in a bipartisan way, does that mean he will agree to start over so that we can develop a bill that is truly worthy of the support and confidence of the American people?"
Referencing Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius telling Sam Stein of the Huffington Post that President Obama is “absolutely not” resetting the legislative process for health care reform, the two Republicans said, "If the starting point for this meeting is the job-killing bills the American people have already soundly rejected, Republicans would rightly be reluctant to participate."
They then asked Emanuel a number of questions, including: "If the President intends to present any kind of legislative proposal at this discussion, will he make it available to members of Congress and the American people at least 72 hours beforehand? …Will the President include in this discussion congressional Democrats who have opposed the House and Senate health care bills?…Will the special interest groups that the Obama Administration has cut deals with be included in this televised discussion?"
Boehner and Cantor expressed hope that the summit is not "an intramural exercise before Democrats attempt to jam through a job-killing health care bill that the American people can’t afford and don’t support. ‘Bipartisanship’ is not writing proposals of your own behind closed doors, then unveiling them and demanding Republican support. Bipartisan ends require bipartisan means."
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said that the president has "been very clear about his support for the House and Senate bills because of what they achieve for the American people: putting a stop to insurance company abuses, extending coverage to millions of hardworking Americans, getting control of rising premiums and out-of-pocket costs, and reducing the deficit."
That said, Gibbs stated that President Obama "looks forward to reviewing Republican proposals that meet the goals he laid out at the beginning of this process, and as recently as the State of the Union Address. He’s open to including any good ideas that stand up to objective scrutiny."
Concluded Gibbs, "What he will not do, however, is walk away from reform and the millions of American families and small business counting on it."
Referencing a report about Anthem Blue Cross, Gibbs said, the "recent news that a major insurer plans to raise premiums for some customers by as much as 39 percent is a stark reminder of the consequences of doing nothing.”

White House Blinks Amid Catholic Church Anger?
Navy SEAL Commander Advised: Get the Hell Out of the Media
This is a reflection of the utter bankruptcy of the White House attempts to pass a health care bill, any health care bill. They are desperate to show that they could accomplish SOMETHING after a year in office.Up to this point all that they have done is cheerlead for Pelosi’s most radical plans, apparently totally unaware of how the public did not want a radical change to the American health care system.Since inauguration they have been tone-deaf to the will of the American people. But that doesn’t matter-Obama is so inept that he thought that health care would pass without his leadership. So none was forthcoming.Even a partisan hack like Al Franken could see that Obama was AWOL when it counted. When your own party finds out that you are an empty suit your time of effectiveness is at an end.You will see Democrats running away from Obama even more than Republicans ran from Bush.

President Obama is “absolutely not” going to compromise he just wants another SHOW. He is great in front of a camera with a script. Will he take up TORT reform from Texas and CRAM it down the democrats throats? Will he allow small business to buy from large pools? Will he allow for tax free medical savings accounts? Will he allow for real competition between carriers? How about common records? Portable health insurance? Will he actually ask insurance companies how they would lower actual COST of medical insurance?
How about doctors? This all sounds fake. All the President wants to do is LIE, have the lies repeated by the NEWS media so he can make it look like he cares. His POLL numbers should tell him what we think of this. START OVER Mr President and concentrate on LOWERING COST FIRST.

Kill the bill and start over.
Bargain priced health care funding and delivery is required in order to arrive at half of the solution for national health care reform (NHC) and only government systems, which the President, Democrats, Republicans, and the health care industry have refused to allow in the debate, can deliver those savings.
Free civilian government health care centers like the VA’s funded by a sales tax instead of insurance could care for all 300million people in the US and it would cost $1trillion less than the $2.6 trillion spent last year for health care.
Of course not everyone in the US would choose to use public care but the stark difference in costs dramatically demonstrates how much more efficient proven government systems are.
Two separate systems coexisting, one public the other private could provide health care choices for everyone.

Bill Kolek says,” Health care? I would like to go to my doctor and have him or her prescribe medication for my ailment. I would also like to not pay for it. I would like to know if I have cancer, that I would receive the best care available without worrying where the money will come from. I would like to know that if I am 80 years old, that I would receive the same medical care as a 10 year old. I would like to be able to walk into a hospital and told that I was welcome there no matter what.

Why didn’t Boehner try and get a more bi-partisan effect from the beginning if he was so sincere about reform? Why would Obama “start over” and wait for a few more Republicans who want to give their usual answer of “no”? Republicans have no real interest in reforming health care in any capacity. Their reform ideas were written up to compete with the Dems and aren’t effective ways of driving down premiums. I think that Republicans should hunker down and use thoughtful language and be willing to compromise. Democrats should work together as well. I’m tired of the bickering between the two. I am in favor of the Democrats proposal, but it needs serious tweaking. I don’t wanna hear the Republicans complain about lack of bi-partisanship while they turn their noses up. They didn’t do anything for health care for 12 years, so I have a hard time believing they mean what they say.

Good job Republicans.
Obama wants to put on a show for the cameras as a purely symbolic gesture.
Call his bluff.
Demand that the special interest groups be present.
Let them tell what group they represent and what kind of sweetheart deal they received in order to support ObamaCare.
That would truly be transparency.

The president needs the republicans because he failed to deliver a health care program that would pass the smell test. One he has now if passed by the Pelosi and Reid would surely end the Democratic Party (Democratic Party is an oxymoron).
Obama doesn’t want to go back to the beginning because of all the deals he, Pelosi and Reid made would be undone. In other words they are still crooks trying to keep deals in place. The Republicans have tried to contribute but if you remember the democrats had closed door meeting where their no republicans invited.
Obama is a one term president, America could not stand more with Obama and likes of Holder, Pelosi, Reid, Franks, and Obama’s cabinet.
When Obama speaks we now see an arrogant man who believes that we are the stupid unwashed and he and he alone knows what is best for us. Even after seeing polls where 70% of the people don’t want his health care program. Why because it stinks full of ear marks, special deals for certain states and unions. It doesn’t take over 2100 pages unless you trying to cheat someone and that someone is us.
Obama number 1 – you should not have lied to us. Number 2 you should not bad mouth our country – Number 3 you kept Eric Holder who called us a nation of cowards – Number 4 You should not have excluded the Republicans from the process of government after all they were sent to congress by millions of Americans to represent them – Number 5 – Terrorist do not belong in our courts – Number 6 your spending program has just about ruined our economy for decades – Number 7 you havr not taken any responsibility for anything. Number 8 You have no class and the world now see you for what you are as does American “A shoe shine and a smile” nothing more – Long on talk and zero on action. You in just one year surpassed Jimmy Carter as the most likely the worst president in 100 years.

Now that congress/POTUS has found they can’t ram through a bill forcing individuals to buy health insurance (i.e., forcing them to be captive customers) that the gov’t would decide the content of & tax, they want to play nice with the other party. It’s time they completely ditch both bills & take the ideas of both parties to carefully craft a bill (not over 50 pgs) that reduces health care costs & improves health care. Adding taxes/fees to our health care or health insurance is not acceptable, either. That’s the baseline so start from there.

Obama and his liberal cronies are campaigning again. This is a publicity stunt. Afterward, they’ll try to make conservatives look bad. This corrupt administration has no problem governing “against” the will of the people of America. The entire 2008 campaign was based on lies. Obama, Pelosi, Reid and other liberals made promises and pledges they did not keep. Now, Obama is campaigning for 2010 and 2012! Americans are fed up with HCR and Cap and Trade. We want them to create jobs and reduce debt, among other things. Obama and the liberals in Congress plan to cram this down our throats, regardless of what it takes.

As Boehner’s letter points out, Republicans TRIED to work with Democrats way back in May on health care only to be told that they weren’t invited into the discussions.
Obama was forced to admit at the Republican retreat that he had been lying to the American public for the last year when he said that the Republicans hadn’t put forth any of their own ideas on health care.
Now that he’s exposed himself as a liar and shutting out the opposition hasn’t worked, he wants Republicans to help him save face on his utter failure. If I were Republicans, I’d demand that what has passed so far be scrapped as a precondition to helping Obama out. If he’s not willing to do that, then he’s not proven himself not willing to incorporate Republican ideas anyway so what’s the point of giving him a photo op?
70% of Americans in poll after poll either want the current bill scrapped or Congress to stop working on it all together. Obama can ally himself with the remaining 30% if he wants, but the Republicans can stand up for the other 70% by just saying NO until Obama shows himself willing to have an actual negotiation on the topic and not just a dog and pony show.

I feel sorry for Obama. He is dealing with a double whammy. He is black. Which I don’t think thats the biggest problem, but he was left with Bush’s and the rebpublican’s mess.
People should stop opening their ignorance holes before speaking.
People right now make false statement that he isn’t doing the best job. Look what were in.
HELLO!!!!! Do you expect the world to change over night. Hahaha, I don’t think so.
The republicans are gonna be in a mess. If they don’t get their stuff straighten out.
Look at Sarah Palin. At the republican tea party. Sarah had something on her hand written down.
that goes to show most republicans can’t think for themselves.

People are going to the hospital w/ or w/out insurance. When they rack up thousands of dollars, who do you think eats it? The tax payers. We are spending a ridiculous amount of money annually anyway on health care. What don’t you understand? You don’t really care about the economy, because that isn’t the real issue. You just don’t want your health care effected. I have good health insurance, and I want other people to have the same. I make good money, and I think people should have a fundamental right to have good health care despite what the make as a salary.

Just take this as an example.
Highschool kids are all use to people listening to what they have to say, but then nobody listens. They don’t want that at first. They take time to learn its for the best.
People don’t want this cause their scared of something their not use to.
If this Economy goes under. It’s not Obama’s fault
It’s the fault of the ignorance of people like you.
People should listen. Most people just go along with what the educated people say anyways. Since they didn’t get their education. Primaly because of the repbublican’s way of thinking.
So Mike, your just someone who’s afraid of change. Just like Obama said

No, the blame goes on Timothy Geithner, Larry Summers, Robert Rubin, Ben Bernanke, Alan Greenspan, and Paul Volcker. The blame goes on the Federal Reserve, who stripped trillions from the American taxpayer. Obama and Bush didn’t do that. Wall St. criminals did.

If Obama is truly interested in LISTENING to others, instead of having just another photo op, then he will scrap this corrupt and bloated monstrosity which has been rejected by 70% of the American public and start over with serious healthcare concerns, beginning with tort reform, removing the obstructions to allowing insurance companies to sell intrastate, portability, and will have all negotiations including negotiations within the Democrat caucus broadcast over CSpan. He will also NOT bribe special interest groups, especially unions. If he isn’t willing to do that, then he proves himself to be truly just another Democrat thuggish demagogue.
And all the bleating sheep who blindly adore him because of his race can pound sand – shrieking racist at those who reject the Community Organizer in Chief’s policies shows just how bigoted and desperate you are.

I do not want to give 30 million people free health insurance. I want then to pay for an affordable plan that may be bare bones, and that keeps then away from the emergency rooms when they get a cold. I want the government to get America back to work so the people can get jobs and afford a healthcare plan.
I also want the free cell phones taken away from the welfare recipients and limit welfare.

Many of these people who truly need healthcare that is adjusted to their income. Do work. Health comes first. Everybody knows this. If you dont pass this then the economy will never get back on it’s feet. People will be spending all their many on unreasonable high health insurance. So, The Hospitals and Insurance companies will make out like bandit.
This just doesn’t give it out. It makes a plan to where you can pay for it. If your income is nothing. Then you pay nothing.
So what, I rather have my insurance lowered, and allow SOME people free insurance.
Obama, wants this passed so people will actually be able to spend their money somewhere else, but still get their quality care that everybody deserves to have.
Now that your money is saved. What would you like to spend it on?

What say you?

I think Hazey Sky needs to read Obama’s book, then you might see him for the self-proclaimed Marxist he truly is. In his book he even states that he studied the Constitution in order to know how to dismantle it or evade it. He’s got no interest in honest dialogue with anyone who doesn’t hold his ideals at heart, and his ideals revolve around a Marxist oligarchy. And he wants to be there at the top of the heap, making sure us lowly working-class citizens don’t think above our station. He doesn’t want us to spend money on ourselves, he wants us to give it to the government. That’s why he rails against Las Vegas or people buying boats. That’s why everything he puts his political clout behind is either a social program or a new way to take our earnings and spend it on our behalf.

To “one american”, Obama is the one who needs a smack down of corruption, within his own office!
$1.6T in budget debt in his first budget? Who’s supposed to pay this off? We’re already taxed coming and going, do you want more taxes to pay off this outrageous liability?
And how about all these “czars” that keep turning out to either have skeletons in their closet, unpaid taxes, or turn out to be hard-core socialists or Marxists?
And why do we even NEED these czars anyway? Don’t we have enough government postings as it is?
And who is the President to take money from bank execs? You want to regulate their pay? Fine! Do it legislatively through the banking and finance committee, not through populist grandstanding that skirts all prior laws.
Corruption? Heh… We’re seeing it every day in Washington. Its just that there’s too many indoctrinated fools who have blinded themselves to what’s really going on. And don’t go calling me a “Republican shill” or some such. I don’t like them any better than I like the Democrats right now.

The GOP should be worried. This is a PR stunt by the liberals to cover up the mistakes of the past 12 months. They’ll blame the GOP if their HCR isn’t approved. They made deals “behind closed doors” at our expense. We don’t want this massive, intrusive government. What happened to transparency and C-Span?

“recent news that a major insurer plans to raise premiums for some customers by as much as 39 percent is a stark reminder of the consequences of doing nothing”

Yeah Gibbs and his buddies want to raise them 40%(unless you’re a union member) so who does this company think they are.
Both hikes stink.

After almost a year of debate on healthcare reform, the GOP wants to start over again. Not a good idea when the economy and jobs now should be the priority and main topic. Look – we can’t waste another year on healthcare reform and come up with something nobody likes again. Push through whatever people agree upon and let’s move on to getting Americans employed again. We can return to it after a while and address issues in an incremental manner

Maybe regulation would help.. maybe not. The GOP will show up, maybe he can serve them cookies (as he has in the past).. but they show up with their pockets full of PAC dollars.. they can’t move.

He’s not changing any legislation, all along he’s fully committed to what’s coming through congress now. He got a little bump in his approval rating after his Q & A with Republicans. This is all about image as most things seem to be with this White House.
I thought they were pivoting to jobs instead they are sending people out to defend their every detail on the Christmas day bomber and have a no substance health care summit. There was no pivot after the SOTU only rhetoric. There are real issues as the 39% (and your own 40%) increase shows and fluff meetings only continue to undermine them.

Concluded Gibbs, “What he will not do, however, is walk away from reform and the millions of American families and small business counting on it.” NOT PASSING THAT IS………….With every speech Obama further confirms his disdain for the American people. He has to be the most arrogant, condescending, jack a** to ever step foot in the White House.

This is GREAT news!!! I hope he continues to ram this crap down our throats for the next 266 more days… NOTHING would mobilize our populace MORE than to be told that it doesn’t matter what WE think we need… HE knows what’s best for us!!!

I hope the Republican’s are not stupid enough to give Mr. Obama another opportunity to brow beat them on national TV.
In my opinion, he is not interested in working with them, just in scoring cheap debating points in the hope of rallying the public against them.
They should take a lesson from Bush the Senior who met with Democrats in a neutral location to work together on budget issues and agreed to go along with their demands to delay some of Reagan’s tax cuts in exchange for some sending cuts.
Well the delay in tax cuts took place, the spending cuts did not, the economy suffered, and the Democrats used his “broken promise” of “no new taxes” to defeat him in the next election.
Of course after Mr. Clinton won that election, the first item of business for him and the Democrats was to raise taxes steeply.
Of course the Republicans haven’t been a lot better. Democrat = tax and spend.
Republican = borrow and spend. It’s the SPENDING! Stop it!

To Quo Warrantino: I don’t call answering all questions intelligently brow beating. It is sbout time someone stood up to those republicans who have been beating up on our president since the first week of his administration. Their goal is to get him to fail…however, they are not looking too good in the public’s eye right now. They are afraid to participate in the health care seminar because they know Obama will tell it like it is…and they don’t want to hear it so they are saying…unless you start from scratch. Are they crazy…many good things are in the bill and they have this opportunity to get their ideas in it. Obama will not say no to them at this point so they are missing a good opportunity to get their ideas included. That is, if they really care about the people or do they just care about themselves. They seem to be to be a bunch of whiners and have not stopped since the day they lost. It is time to stop whinning and get busy if they have so many good ideas. It’s put up or shut up time ..republicans.

The Bi Partisan Health Care forum is a joke. Obama will do what he did last week with the Sen. Dems. Let the cameras in for a little while…then get to the gritty stuff once the cameras are out of the room..Remember Sen. Franken going after Axelrod BEHIND CLOSED DOORS..SANS CAMERAS! What do you say to that, dems?
Posted by: Penny | February 9, 2010, 10:57 am 10:57 am
If Obama agrees to start over from scratch, then go ahead and have the meeting. Otherwise, it is merely a photo op and blame festival to rescue a healthcare proposal which has been overwhelmingly rejected by the American people–despite Obama’s dozens of sales pitches.

This healthcare fiasco has been the best, worst thing that almost happened to America…
…cause everybody’s paying attention now!

The Republicans are looking for a way to squirm out of this . . . they need to maintain their pretence of sulking on the outside. It’s their only tactic.

All I am thinking about is that how come I see so many people on here saying that 70% of americans don’t want this.
Well, Matter of Fact
70% of americans do want this. Quit twisting the words.
We don’t need ignorance like that on this page.
Obama is doing the right thing by making this bill.
I know that is just my opinion. I can’t really back it up cause I don’t know how this bill will do, but you don’t either so your comments are just as weak as mine
Posted by: {}{}Hazey^Sky{}{} | February 9, 2010, 6:22 pm 6:22 pm
Cynicism aside, it would be good to see some bipartisan work on the bills to help remove the underhanded deals caused because some of the Democratic senators used circumstances to advance their own goals. If the Republicans can offer intelligent criticisms and enhancements to what exists and the Democrats incorporate a reasonable number of the changes rather than demanding a restart, we would end up with a better bill.
Hopefully, this won’t just be a delay and wasted effort for the American people or a ploy by either party.

That’s mostly what Obama was trying to do.
Obama was trying to get their asses to work with each other.
Jeez, So don’t bring it on Obama. Not all of people have, but a few of you have.
If it doesn’t work. It not Obama’s fault. He is one person. He can’t tell people what he want them to do.
Thank You For Your Time
