Minnesota Billboard Asks: Missing George W. Bush Yet?

ABC News’ Karen Travers reports: If you are driving down I-35 near Wyoming, MN, look up and consider the question being posed from the side of the highway. A billboard with a large grinning picture of former President George W. Bush asks:  “Miss Me Yet?”
The billboard was first stopped by Minnesota Public Radio but it is not yet clear who is behind it. Is it a Bush sympathizer wanting to capitalize on President Obama’s declining poll numbers? A prankster with some extra cash just looking to stir up trouble? Minnesota Public Radio’s Bob Collins reports that the billboard has no ownership plate, making it difficult to trace back to a source, but as the sign attracts more attention on the Internet, it seems likely that someone will step forward and claim credit. -Karen Travers

I didn’t like George, but I like Obama less. However, Obama is easier to watch and listen to. George always looked like he was ready to bust out laughing…the joke was on us though.

Per the Minneapolis Star Tribune:
“It was put up by a group of small business owners — who want to stay anonymous –because they felt Washington wasn’t listening,” said Mary McNamara, a spokeswoman for the company that owns the billboard. “They felt like it was a good way to get their message out.”

George Bush was a moron, no doubt but Obama is one hell of a lot worse and is doing more to damage this country than Bush every did and that is saying a lot.
Bush and Obama, two wrongs in a row, this country needs a break and to get it right.

Posted by: malkittens | February 9, 2010, 1:52 pm 1:52 pm

Bush was not the greatest president in history, but he never apologized for America and he showed his pride in being an American. He never accepted a Nobel Peace Prize for not doing anything like Gore and Obama did (can we spell dishonorable?). Neither of them did anything to promote peace in this world. Yes, money was tossed away in his administration, why is it continuing? Because Obama is being allowed to do it. We are closer to anarchy now than we have ever been. God save us and God Bless America!!

Given that the GOP controlled Congress the last two years of the Client Administration, they have had 10 years to screw-up the Country, I am willing to give this Administration more time to fix things.

The very fact that opinion on this seems to be split in some circles, and that some of us actually have to think for even a split second before answering the question is more telling then anything.
As an Independent, I only agreed with about 1/3 at most of Bush’s decisions. He had the ability to be a divisive presence in Washington, did not act on economic policy when he should, acted on economic policy when she shouldnt have by bailing out Wall Street, and did us much harm overseas by invading a country who direct threat to us was nowhere near that of an Iran or North Korea. I would have never imagined in my wildest dreams missing him. Yet…
I do! “Change” is a very dangerous thing. 56% of the nation wanted it, and they got it. The results? A systematic shift in the very identity of America with policies that could tear this country down past a point of no return. I would rather take a leader who I disagree with 2/3 of the time, but who at least does not want to destroy the fabric of America, then a leader who is an idealouge hell bent on directives that put NO VALUE into the wishes of the American people.
For all of his damage, Bush was at least a realist, just like 99% of most politicians. They are realists because they have to be or else they would be voted out of office. Yet, when a man or woman stands before you, and despite your own growing concern, opposition, and hatred for what they speak to you, continues to drive home their view and or way of life, that my friends is not a realist… that is an ideologue.

Look back at history. FDR inherited a big mess and he is both loved and hated…history repeats itself, so why would anyone want to repeat the folly of both Bushes?
And, Palin, give me a break. What a loser woman. Stupid is as Stupid does.

Yeah, right… I miss 9/11, anthrax attacks, a shoe bomber, a baseless war in Iraq that has killed and maimed hundreds of thousands of people, humiliating Abu Graib photos, government approved waterboarding and torture, hatred of gays, tax cuts for the wealthy, and finally economic/financial collapse. The one thing I respect about Dubya is that he has had the class and respect for the presidency to stand back and not criticize his successor. The Cheneys are a bunch of sore losers who won’t shut up. They are probably the ones who paid for the sign.

Posted by: Simon | February 9, 2010, 2:38 pm 2:38 pm

What, miss that dope? He had more debacles in his administration than we can count. Obama hasn’t done anything yet that we can use to accuse him of destroying our Country. He’s trying to get us out of the ditch that Bush/Cheney threw us into. It will take a while, but he will accomplish it. He’s trying as best he can with the Republicans pushing against his every move, it takes a lot longer than if they would cooperate. But what else would you expect obstructionists to do? They just won’t allow Obama to accomplish anything he can take positive credit for as long as they are able to oppose it, regardless of how much it hurts the American people and our Country. If it makes Obama look good, the Republicans are against it.

Bush is properly accorded the title of the worst president of all time. It will not change – ever. You folks who simply don’t like the black man in your White House are racists and bigots, That too, will never change. A bigot is always trying to overcome their own failings by using others as a target.

Posted by: Jimbo | February 9, 2010, 2:48 pm 2:48 pm

Is Osama Bin Laden still a Free Man Yet? Are we still fighting a war in Iraq yet because of WMD? Have the tax cuts for the wealthy produced one new job yet? Where the Banks on the verge of financial collapse a year ago? Was the employment picture looking bleak two years ago? Has a republican put forth one logical and workable idea yet?

Posted by: Chuck | February 9, 2010, 2:49 pm 2:49 pm

I really can’t believe you americans for slamming your current president. Bush was an absolute moron who ran the economy into the ground. The first stimulous package – you know, the one, that gave out all that money and attached NO conditions for pay-back, was from BUSH. The eight years of the Bush presidency saw a dramatic increase in the US deficit.
For those of you who say that Bush kept you safe – just remember – 9-11 was on his watch. His administration had been warned about terrorists AND DID NOTHING. While you were being attacked he preferred to hear about a stupid pet goat.
Bush also set a record for most presidential vacation days. Roughly 1/3 of his presidency was spent on vacation. We, in the rest of the world knew he was a MORON. It took many years for the average american to catch on.
Obama is intelligent, well-spoken and hard working. He is restoring respect for the US throughout the world – respect that was utterly destroyed under Bush.

Posted by: geecee827 | February 9, 2010, 2:55 pm 2:55 pm

Posted by: PhiZ | February 9, 2010, 2:55 pm 2:55 pm

Obama and his democrat-socialits are spending our nation into oblivion and they are doing it a lot faster than Bush ever did. Obama’s agenda is: less individual freedom, a disregard for national security, much more government, more bureaucrats and higher taxes. Obama’s change: no transparency, plenty of corruption and backdoor deals with lobbyists and labor unioms.

Posted by: wizcat123 | February 9, 2010, 3:06 pm 3:06 pm

For the past year this administration has promoted one crisis after another. Seems like the plan is to keep the American people in a constant state of fear and unrest and promote our differences. During the last administration my business was thriving and I felt safe. I wasn’t paying a large percentage to IRS in taxes.

How could we miss him? If you listen to the current occupant of the White House, Bush is still responsible for everything except the 10 feet of snow now covering Washington. That being the case, it’s like he never really left…only a heck of a lot more expensive, less transparent and about the same lobbyist-controlled, smoke-filled backroom, double-dealing administration that we’ve had for the past 60 years.

Yes I miss King George the W like I miss having the flu. At least you can treat the flu, but you can’t fix stupid. Do you really expect Obama to be able to fix all the problems Bush brought on in just one year? Answer: no!
If we weren’t a BULLY of a nation before, we certainly became one when Bush took control! I don’t know about you, but I don’t enjoy America being one of the most hated countries in the world. Just for Obama to try to gain back some respect for the American people is a huge task in itself. Let us be a respected nation because we do good in this world…not because we push others around, start wars, and take innocent lives.

Millions without health care, a surplus turned into a huge deficit, nations worldwide hating us, the rich getting richer, two stupid wars without being paid for and a prescription fiasco that led us nowhere but down hill. We are in a mess! It was under the REPUBLICANS that got us here but you folks seemed to have slept through that. Wake up you all and see that Obama is at least trying to make things better. This is the UNITED States of America not the United Republican Christian Fundamentalist Stated of America. I would never ever say I miss Bush. No matter what. And by the way this is still carry over from Bush. Most of the stuff you all are complaining about is money trouble by way of Bush 2. We in America don’t have very good memories and we tend to always take the easy way out to solve every problem. Short term cures won’t work on what was wrong in America this time last year. Time will have to pass and much work done to get us back to where we were pre Bush 2.

At least Bush didn’t cancel cost of living raises for those on social security (who need it the most) and funnel it to Congress (who need it the least), he didn’t double the deficit in one year, bow down to countries who hate us, apologize for us, etc; etc;

I feel this new stuff is very biased about what it likes or does not like. So, we are becoming very divided, and our person al freedoms are threatened, if not approved by liberal points of view. I love my freedom. A nation divided cannot stand. Can’t we all coexist? In Peace, on same team? Just wondering.

catman, dream on. Bush almost single-handedly wrecked the country, from getting us into Iraq (who knows why) to opening our very own gulag and introducing the world to the practice of waterboarding. Obama would need 4 consecutive terms to equal the damage the neocons did.

OBAMA DIDN’T CREATE THIS, AND HE CAN’T FIX IT IF THE SAME DO NOTHING REPUBLICANS THAT WERE PART OF THE PROBLEM KEEP LEADING BY WHINING AND SAYING “NO, NO, NO” TO EVERY SOLUTION. YOU PEOPLE ON HERE THAT WANT BUSH NEED A VISIT TO A PSYCHIATRIST, BECAUSE YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVE LOST YOUR DARN MINDS!!! I’m embarrassed that we still have people upset with the current administration when he has been trying to correct a mess that he INHERITED! Those businessmen who put up that sign need to go out of business!!! Ughhhh!!! I’m so sick of the stupidity of the people in this country. Do you not remember what happened on September 11th, 2001? If you are going to blame a President for circumstances so shortly into his first term, then this falls entirely in his lap.

Hmmm… “miss Bush?”… let’s see…
(1) The nation’s national debt went from $5 Trillion to $10 Trillion in his 8 years…largest increase to the national debt under any one president in the nation’s history.
(2)… and the interest that the American taxpayer pays on that debt went from $260+ Billion per year to $480+ Billion per year (half a trillion of annual tax revenues)…
(3)… not to mention the 4,300+ great Americans that died in Iraq for his “WMD” bull crap.
Miss him? … not just “NO”, but “HELL NO!”

Obama hasn’t been perfect, but Bush is one of the worst 5 Presidents we’ve ever had.

The fact that there are a few people in here claiming they miss Bush goes to show how ignorant people are in this country. I dont care if you’re Republican or Democrat, the damage Bush did to this country in such a short span of time is beyond anything ive seen in my lifetime. Some of you are nothing but exreem republicans with no lives hoping for Obama to fail. Obama has done nothing to get the disrespect he garners from some of you low lives. The man has only been in office a year, how much damage could he have done..and the people who put this billboard up are republicans angry they lost the election to a black democrat, plain and simple. You folks are embarrassing yourselves with your constant whining. Guess what? Washington wasn’t listening to the people the last 8 years..im glad some of you finally decided to catch up.

Missing him? NO. I wish he’d never happened to begin with! Obama will never be able to straighten out the faux pas of two terms of Bush. Neither will the next two presidents after Obama. We should be looking WAY DOWN the road when it comes to undoing the damage brainless Bush caused all of us…

Posted by: CES | February 9, 2010, 8:34 pm 8:34 pm

Yes, I miss him.
Someone else said, “At least Obama is honest to try and change things.” Point one: Obama is not honest. Remember, he was going to put health care reform discussions on C-Span and make them transparent to the American people. Instead, he went behind closed doors with Democrats and cut backroom deals. And remember this: He said he would not allow earmarks and lobbyists, yet the Omnibus was chocked full with over 8,000 earmarks, and his administration has 11 lobbyists on board.
And the “change” Obama wants is destruction. He’s changing American, alright…..into a crumbling mess.

America is waking up from the Hope and Change package of lies spoon fed by “mainstream” media. Obama and the Dems are in free fall and if America ever got off of the daily dose of lies fed by the media the Left would be at 20% approval. No more stimulus, no more wasting trillion of dollars in deficits, no more take overs of our economy, no more take overs of Healthcare, no more daily LIES that my 6yr old daughter can see through. By the spring Obama will be a LAME DUCK after 15 months in office and even then it might be too late. Throw out the Leftists who are doing this!! Out with Pelosi,Reid, Boxer, Feinstein, Durbin, Ben Nelson, etc and then we will start to have a conservative takeover and not add THREE TRILLION dollars in new debt in only his first two years. Where will that money come from???

The Bush Crime Family had to pay back a lot of friends in high place for the 1/2 of billion $$ that they put out for his two elections. And, their spending is outright careless..taking money paid back from tarp and instead of putting it back in the bank, feeling as if they have to keep loaning it out. Well, you know if the truth was spoken, I would say all Americans miss President GW Bush.
After all, you can miss someone or something for 2 different reasons.
If you like President Bush and/or want him back, you miss him as someone good.
If you didn’t like President Bush and/or don’t want him back, you miss him as someone bad.
One example: I love chocolate, and if I don’t have any, I miss it as a good thing I want back.
Another example: I hate a headache and can’t wait to get rid of it. Once it’s gone, I miss it as a bad thing I don’t want back.
So all together now: Yes, I miss President Bush!!

It appears as though many of the actions taken by Bush and condemmed by obama are now being accepted and continued by this administration. Obama is a bold faced liar. Bush was not. Obama is an egomaniac who enjoys the perks of the position that feed into his ego. If he was not a black person there would have been much more known about him during the campaign thru news media investigations of his history and this inexperienced socialist would not have been elected. He is a serious threat to this country.

President Obama is the best thing to hit politicized Washington. The Bush performance statistics are abundantly clear. We can’t afford to go back there.
And as for Members of Congress , they better better get back to doing the cooperative job they were elected to do. And quickly.! I’m afraid we are now heading for a sad retrospective history lesson in me-me-me greed.

Posted by: Jim Beam | February 10, 2010, 7:33 am 7:33 am

Systemic greed and the willful manipulation of fear was the problem with governance by Bush/Cheney. Use of both did not allow them (and the republican congressmen and senators who rubber-stamped all their ideas) to see the writing on the wall regarding the economy. Their hesitation to do what was necessary vis-a-vis the economy until the very last moment, i.e., the TARP bailout narrowly averted a new GREATER depression. Instead of 10% unemployment, we would have been at 25% unemployment. The insignificant $500 stimulus checks they dolled out during the waning years of the Bush presidency did nothing but stall the inevitable, i.e., a bailout of the banks by the federal government to avoid catastrophic economic collapse. Henry Carlson, a republican and Bush’s top economic advisor, recently published a book explaining how although he was loathe to do so, he knew and understood that a government bailout of the banks was necessary to avoid greater economic. Read your history people! Remember the past, it was only a little over a year ago that Bush was in office! It took YEARS for the country to get out of the Great Depression, and that time was only shortened because of the social welfare programs created by FDR and the Democrats that helped stimulate the economy. Read your history! Educate yourselves! During the Bush years we were all living a mass delusion based upon the availability of easy credit. Reality has since set in, and it will be like this for a while. The economic collapse was not Obama’s doing more so than it is your own. The small business owners who pine for a return of Bush, should really have put up a Clinton sign, or Reagan sign, or Johnson sign, or Eisenhower sign, or Roosevelt sign, the list of Presidential Administrations that enjoyed favorable economic conditions is likely to be as long as those who didn’t fare that well, i.e., Hoover, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Bush(1), etc.

Posted by: Oscar | February 10, 2010, 7:58 am 7:58 am

Yes I do. I use to sleep a lot better at night. As a lifelong Republican, I went south when McCain chose Palin as a running mate. Not so much of being afraid of Sarah as the idea that Nancy could end up in the White House. I voted for President Obama. Now that I’m a registered Independent I do feel better about myself though. The only thing I have’nt figured out is how to explain to my Grandchildren that they all owe $4,500.00 toward this past year’s deficit. This year it will be higher. Yes George, I really do miss you.

The collapse of USAs finances. The death of over 5000 soldiers for oil uh I mean WMDs.Torture (violation of the Geneva Convention). No no son the only thing I’m missing about Bush is him being held accountable for all the illegal misdoings he conducted in an absolute abuse of political position. PS his entire staff should be held accountable as well.

I’m surprised that people are surprised. Haven’t we learned by now that everything said or done on the campaign trial is in response to market research that determines what voters want to see/hear. You can promise anything with no logistics to back it up. Voters were more concerned with Michelle Obamas hair or Sarah Palins dress than they were issues. We are too gullible.

Laughable comments for the most part. I suppose most of the “young pups” just don’t get it. They will eventually, hopefully, before it is too late, if it is’nt already. We are a debtor nation now. We have no sovereign wealth. We don’t even qualify to be in the European Union, not that we would want to. Our debt load is too high. European journalist are already reporting about the downfall of our socialist president. Sounds strange does’nt it. Land of the free and home of the brave? Not really. Not anymore. My parents and their parents built the greatest nation on earth and somehow we have managed to destroy it. We did’nt pay attention.

Need a billboard with the pic of the Rep. Elephant
“It takes time to clean up after an Elephant”

Posted by: Cortland Smith | February 10, 2010, 11:15 am 11:15 am

come on how come everyone thinks it takes a year for our country to get back on track? It took Bush not 4 years but 8 to screw up what Clinton did 4 us so how can we expect Obama to clean up 8 years of war and the economy in 1? Come on people!!! Its seems to me that everyone who complains about Obama are the ones who don’t have anything to gain from what the president is trying to do for his country.

Yes, i miss all the jokes the late nite comics made about him. I miss his stupid looking face when he talked. I miss his retarded laugh. I wish he would come back and plunge us into another great depression and start a few more wars, i miss that about him most. His vision on how to detroy this country. Not too many presidents left this country in such shambles. I miss his mediocrity and stupidity. Come back George, the world truly misses you!

I worship GOD not obama or other politicians like pilosi, and ried.

I seen one foreign spokesman on TV several months ago when Obama couldn’t make up his mind on sending the troops to Afghanistan and he said “we all knew what Bush would do, he was always true to his word but we don’t know about this president.” Bush wasn’t “wishy washy” like Obama changing his mind every month on something-Bush said something he stood by it-never backing down-wrong or right. I sure felt safer when he was president- he was a “give them hell” type like Harry Trumann.

Whichever ones of you all said you miss Bush just miss the times when our market and country didnt resemble that of the Great Depression.Bush left Obama with this mess and left in a hurry.

Hmmm… for a short while, I missed the REGULAR, DAILY comedy of an idiot politician that George Bush was, but then Sarah Palin stepped back in last week to fill those shoes… so no, now I don’t miss George Bush. Sarah Palin’s doing very well in filling in for his comedy routines.
LMAO!

Another news network reported that this billboard was paid for by a bunch of big businessmen in Minnesota…
…I guess they’re starting to miss Bush because Obama’s recent tax cuts went to the average American and not to the top 10% incomes this time.
Minnesotans who have any sense of responsibility for their country, and are intelligent enough to understand what put us in this mess, should find out what companies were involved with this… AND BOYCOT THEM!

Posted by: X-Republican Because of Bush | February 10, 2010, 5:12 pm 5:12 pm

2012 can’t get here fast enough!!
obama lame excuses of fixing Bushes mess is just a front for his failures.

Posted by: NaivePres | February 10, 2010, 5:38 pm 5:38 pm

Anyone who misses Bush has short-term memory. The trouble this country is in happened prior to President Obama. It’s the GOP lies and tricks that are out to destroy him. They can’t stand the fact that a black man will be a better President than President Cheney, oops, I meant Bush. And no, I am not African American. Let me remind you, two wars, near financial ruin of the country, humiliating U.S. representative to the world, putting policies (Medicare Prescription) without providing a way to pay for them, I could go on and on. Still miss him? If so, you’re part of the problem.

Businesses are hurting because of the obama tax plans and had to downsize or laying off lots of people people just to exist.
Now some genious on here wants to boycott the business people who are already suffering and forcing them to layoff more people and possibly losing their businesses.
This is the kind of thinking that dooms our economy and keep us in the recesssion.
Tax cut to the average American is nice but when you don’t have a job, it doesn’t mean much does it!!
Tax cut to the “wealthy” helps stimulate and built businesses. The people who I worked for needs to be “wealthy” so they can have the money to pay me.
obama doesn’t have an MBA and it shows.

Obama took a bad situation and made it much, much worse!

Posted by: DDWW | September 21, 2010, 10:49 am 10:49 am

Bush is a monkey. Both parties are gabage duh. Republicans are much worse but democrats suck too. They are the same pretending to be diff. They represent interests of the wealthy and thats it.

I can only say that Obama has lost sight of what is important. I didn’t vote for him, and I never will. I am a single mother, kids grown, no child support, no insurance. Now, Obama’s health care reform might have me paying an ASTRONOMICAL amount. I will not qualify for these programs. The amount of money he is spending is amazing. I worked hard all these years to pay for my family. Two or three jobs at a time. I don’t want anything for free, just an opportunity to support myself and my loved ones. STOP THE PROGRAMS!!!! Put the money into small business owners so others can have that same opportunity. If they don’t want to work, let them starve. I do not feel sorry for people without jobs, if they look for work 8 hours a day, they will find work. I don’t want to pay for a welfare state, I want to support people who are trying to make the best of themselves and their lives. I do not agree with everything the republican’s have to say, but I don’t want to see my beloved country turned into a human waste heap. If you allow people to live off the goverment indefinately, it is a recipe for disaster. I will not bow down to any king, let anyone take my God given rights away from me, or pay for people to sit on their asses and watch Oprah so I can foot the bill. Maybe the tea party has it right after all.

Bush kept us safe???? 911 happened on W’s watch…or did you forget that fact???

Posted by: REE | September 22, 2010, 2:27 am 2:27 am

I am mad as hell because the now president and congress passed the PACT ACT just for the States to collect unfair taxes….Also hurting the Native American to make a fair living..May I remind Wahington DC that smoking is not illegal and unfair taxes should be illegal.
