Consumer Financial Protection Agency Endorsed by SNL Versions of Bush, Clinton, Bush, Reagan, Carter & Ford
The team at the website “Funny or Die” has put together a web video in which President Obama is visited by former Presidents Bush, Clinton, Bush, Carter, and the ghosts of Reagan and Ford, who instruct him to keep fighting for the proposed Consumer Financial Protection Agency.
The video features Saturday Night Live stars and alumni playing the various commanders in chief, including Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph as President and First Lady Obama; Will Ferrell as George W. Bush; Darrell Hammond as Bill Clinton; Dana Carvey as George H.W. Bush; Jim Carrey as the ghost of Ronald Reagan; Dan Aykroyd as Jimmy Carter; and Chevy Chase as the ghost of Gerald Ford.
The video is being billed as the first time all the SNL presidents have come together.
You can watch the video here. (Warning: some of the language is crude and it may not be safe for work.)
Carrey, of course, was never a cast member on SNL, but the Not-Ready-for-Prime-Time player who most prominently played Reagan, Phil Hartman, was killed in 1998.
The film was shot on Sunday in Van Nuys and was directed by Ron Howard and written by Adam McKay and Al Jean. It was created in association with Americans for Financial Reform, which bills itself as “a coalition of more than 200 national, state and local consumer, labor, investor, civil rights, community, small business and senior citizen organizations, to urge Congress to act now on Financial Reform and to make sure the cornerstone or real reform, a strong and independent consumer agency, is included in any final bill.”

God Help Us…didn’t you just post the same “fear mongering” blurb on another article page? I replied to you there but one thing I didn’t address. People like you only want a 60% majority so that you can dodge, delay and kill any piece of worthwhile legislation that your small minds can’t grasp the meaning of.

I was ready for something funny, but even with all the star power, that was painful.
Al Jean, I wish you’d go back to writing Simpsons episodes.

From Ryan Grim:
“The Fed has had authority over consumer financial protection for years but consciously decided not to use it, despite a congressional mandate to do so. In 1994, Congress instructed the Fed to protect consumers from subprime loans, but when Republicans took over in 1995, then-Chairman Alan Greenspan decided he could ignore the directive. The rules weren’t put in place until Democrats retook control of Congress and the crisis was well underway.”

Poor, poor Obama, look what he inherited? Never mind that FDR inherited a whole depression with no excuses. Or Bill Clinton inherited Reagan’s economic mess; didn’t see any SNL inspired dog-ate-his-homework excuses from Clinton. Remind me did Obama volunteer for the job of president or was he forced at gunpoint to take the job? Its funny how Obama always gets to be the perpetual victim president. Its them other presidents over there what done it to him! Funny Obama is not shown entertaining the Goldman Sachs’ CEO at the White House as the WH visitors logs reveal, or Obama looking the other way while his Treasury Secretary makes fake moves pretending to police Wall Street. Our runway model of a president just gets to strut his stuff. Let other presidents take the blame. Just let Obama be, he does not have to do, just to be. That’s the message of the SNL skit.
