Dem Rep. Lynn Woolsey: House May Pass Senate Bill Without Recorded Vote
ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: As House Democrats press for final passage of a health care bill, a legislative scenario has emerged whereby the House wouldn’t have to take a formal roll call vote to endorse the Senate version of the legislation. Instead, the House would craft a special piece of legislation declaring the Senate bill to have been passed by the House when the House approves its package of “fixes” under the budget reconciliation process. That would spare House members of the perception of endorsing politically explosive Senate deals such as the “Cornhusker Kickback.” On ABC’s “Top Line” today, Rep. Lynn Woolsey, co-chair of the House Progressive Caucus, said that scenario is attractive to many House Democrats who have serious reservations about the Senate bill. “I don’t need to see my colleagues vote for the Senate bill in the House. We don’t like the Senate bill. Why should we be forced to do that?” said Woolsey, D-Calif. “But what we need to know, before any Senate bill is passed, that we have enough of the fixes that we’ve asked for, that we will be satisfied with the final product as a beginning for health care [reform].” Asked if she would be comfortable with the House voting to deem the bill passed, rather than actually taking a recorded vote on the Senate-passed bill, Woolsey said: “I would be OK with that.” Woolsey and many of her liberal colleagues will still be unhappy with the final product — and are vowing to immediately press to improve on it. “The hardest part for me will be voting for a bill that does not have a public option. But I will reintroduce the public option legislation the day the president signs this health care into law,” Woolsey said. “We will be starting to fix it the day it’s passed. The bit about passing and voting for the Senate bill — the American people are smarter than this. They know this is what we have to do if we’re going to go forward. They’re not going to blame me for that Senate bill unless I don’t do something to fix it.” Woolsey also said she’s “concerned” about the messages sent by the recent ethics controversies involving Democrats, including former Rep. Eric Massa and Rep. Charlie Rangel. “Of course I’m concerned,” she said. “Shame on all of us if we can’t follow the rules. But yes, I worry about that — not Democrats particularly, but all members of Congress.” Watch the discussion with Rep. Lynn Woolsey HERE. We also addressed the question of whether process matters in the drive for health care reform — or whether the policies themselves will wind up taking precedence. Obama Avoids Questions on Contraception Rule
Rep Woolsey is waaaay off base. Firstly the Ayes and Nays must be recorded per that pesky CONSTITUTION Art 1 Sec 8 is it?, and the people are smarter indeed. We do not want this horror show of a bill, period. we are saying no loudly and they are ignoring us and playing games worthy of Versailles.
totally deluded critters in the DC bubble it seems. the blowback from this will be incredible if they foolishly ignore the people and proceed.

The “PASS IT NOW, AND WE’LL FIX IT LATER” crowd/politicians sound a lot like the management team at Toyota in regards to the “speed-up, then try to slam on the brakes, then crash, burn and die” folks managing the PRIUS et al issues

1. Woolsey and Pelosi are Progressives from California.
2. California is broke because of government overspending on entitlements, promoted by the Progressive colleagues of Pelosi and Woolsey.
Therefore, if Pelosi and Woolsey get their way, the US will be broke as California is now.

To even have her SUGGEST this and seemingly be taken seriously by at least SOME Dem leaders sends a cold chill up my spine. Why on earth isn’t she being run out of Congress for this? This ought to be the lead story in every news outlet in America until she is!

Democrats are hell bent on passing this bill at any cost.
If they now believe that a recoded vote is not necessary, why not have Nancy Pelosi declare that she deems that the Senate bill has passed the House and everything is honky dory.
The Congress under Democrats is a zoo and not a functioning body. Shame on Obama, Pelosi and Reid.

they so-called rich folks are moving out of California and the welfare receipients moving in, because Cal. has the highest payment for welfare. Just like all seniors have to move to Florida when this healthcare bill passes (that no-one knows whats in it)

I am in awe at how politically suicidal Pelosi, Reid, and Obama are being. Obama was elected, I am told, to bridge differences and heal us. He was elected to get the economy on track and get people back to work.
He has wasted 14 months on something that only the most extreme members of the left consider a priority, where 80% of the public would rather a different approach. As a conservative, I am delighted at the gains this bunch will be handing back to a chastened GOP. As an American, I am appalled by what they are trying to push us into.
