I don’t get it. On one hand the Repubs always say that small businesses are the backbone of the country and then on the other hand you have commentors like madmax who say you shouldn’t work for a small company that doesn’t provide health insurance. Well here’s a news flash, most of these small companies can’t afford to provide health insurance for their workers even if they wanted to. They don’t have the bargaining power of the large corporations. I have friends who own a small business and they buy their own insurance to the tune of $1,461.00 per month …a whopping $17,000.00 per year. this isn’t some “grand” plan its based on age and medical background. Unfortunately, they recently had to drop their coverage to put that money into their business in order to keep their business afloat. HMMM… wouldn’t it be nice if small businesses could pool together to negotiate prices with the insurance companies for health coverage for their employees.
If you think rates won’t rise if the healthcare bill fails you are just kidding yourself. Rates are going to keep going up until there is some sort of competition. Just how long do you think your employer will be able to provide health coverage. So I say once this bill fails that probably within the next five years the majority of Americans will be buying their own coverage. Get out the checkbooks and hope you have at least an additional $9,000.00 per year lying around to pay your premiums. I’m basing that figure on $780.00 per month or about $9,000.00 per year (which is propbably an average of basic coverage thru employers). But again just how long can companies keep this up if perhaps their are 500 employees for which the company pays a portion of the premium. Just with the above figure for 500 employees that would be close to $5,000,000.00 right off their bottom line.

what gives you the right to steal from my family because you didn’t work in a job that provides health insurance. reform would be steps to drive down cost. this is nothing but income transfer from hard working to the slackers who want another gov. handout

the Cadillac plans are not taxed if you work for the gov. or are in a union. what kind of slap in the face to the rest of us is that? How come Nebraska, and La get rights the rest of us don’t?wait till you see your new deduction from your SS check for medicare. if you are a vet, you still get your SS medicare deduction increased. and looks like VA care will suffer. Vets got less pay, as promised VA care later.

If I own stock in insurance it is in a mutual fund. I do pay taxes, thus the right to complain on waste. and point out we can’t afford the entitlements we have now. we can’t afford more. in addition to more tax, we will have higher premiums. and if on medicare, less money for more people on it. how will this help your health care.

So Rick… what is Mandatory Car insurance? Is that Dictatorial too? Maybe you should research Dictatorships… they don’t have elected representation like you do.
Sandcrab wants to know where the cash is coming from to replace the tax credits… It comes from cutting ineffective medicare legislation that only benefits the insurance companies.
Cash is also generated thru taxing the cadillac plans and thru savings by instituting a nationwide database to exchange basic information about patients.
We need healthcare reform in this nation… the costs are rising daily, and if we don’t take some action now, there won’t be a chance to get it right before it bankrupts this nation.
This legislation is not perfect… but its a step in the right direction. Would be even better if Repubs would participate instead of dragging their feet and doing nothing to help America or Americans not invested in the status quo.

If that happens, I will consider it a move to dictatorship in this country.
Mandating that people MUST buy health insurance, is dictatorial, and does nothing to make it affordable for those who can’t pay for it.

If this bill passes and the feds start collecting 5 years in taxes to pay for it. Do you really think that five years of taxes will be there when it is time to use it?? Like social security they will steal from it and then blame us for it being broke.
