House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Shoots Down Rep. Bart Stupak’s ‘Fix’

ABC News' Jonathan Karl reports: Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was asked about Bart Stupak’s suggestion that there could be another bill to address abortion funding and she said, “I haven’t heard any of that.” “If you don’t want federal funding for abortion… and you want to have a health care bill,” she said. ”This is it.” She said members may be talking about various things and dismissively mentioned Stupak’s name, adding, “But right now we are just getting votes to pass a bill.” “This bill is about health care and not about abortion," Pelosi said. “There will be no further changes in the bill.”

Stupak is toast. The bill is good enough for the Catholic sisters, it’s good enough for this pro lifer. Pass the bill and let’s get on with making it better.

Jonathan, why is Stupak toast?
Does he not have a right to speak his mind and vote accordingly?
Additionally the allegation was not made from first hand dialog rather Pelosi’s retorts were made when she was “told” what someone alleged Stupak said. This type of sarcastic cynical attitude is Pelosi’s persona and the witch really needs to be “taken down” rather than Stupak who is a gentleman.

This effectively ends Stupak’s TV career. You will see him in reruns being mocked for a while. Later, he will be appearing in campaign commercials of the democrat running against Stupak for his seat….. and winning it!

More likely this effectively ends Pelosi’s career. We’ll all find out in November.

I can not believe my progressive friends are going to use the (slaughter rule) and loose total control of Washington this early in Obamas term, I know they could not be this stupid, Obama, Pelosi and Reid have destroyed all hope of keeping control of the House and Senate in Nov 2010, Obama has shurley gave his second term up to. Everywhere I go there is a 3 agaist to 1 for, ratio for this bill. That translates into a huge loss in November 2010. I am dissapointed in their stupidity.

@I am Liberal = Deem and Pass is a house rule, one used mostly by Republican’s with Newt leading the pack. If it is a rule in the book, why can’t they use it? Isn’t that why we have rules?
Same with reconciliation in the Senate. It’s a rule in the book so why can’t they use it. The Republican’s used it to raise the deficit with the Bush tax cuts which is clearly against the rule…

I am a Liberal: I wouldn’t give up just yet. When the bill becomes law people will see that it’s not going to change their lives and tomorrow will come. November is not next month. I don’t know why you would be giving in so soon unless……..

The most important vote will be the one that will be on-going over the course of the next several years if this bill does pass and becomes law. That continual voting process won’t be at the ballot box, it will be doctors voting with their feet to leave the medical profession, and former potential medical school students voting to pursue another career.
