"building permits are not some new invention; they've been around for a long, long time." - tierra
Yeah, they serve a purpose and are necessary for major construction.
Requiring them to change a door or a window is an excess of government and just a way of extorting money from the people.

Noz - sorry to sound harsh, but building permits are not some new invention; they've been around for a long, long time.

I hear ya tierra.
Kind of silly to have to get permission from the government to replace a window.

Oh you poor baby. Every city has building specifications and permits - if you don't like it, talk to city hall.

Ha ha ha ha!
That's not fast and easy here where I live.
Just changing a door or window requires a building permit.
I have a few windows that I won't change just because I'd have to get permission from the government to do so.

"The simple act of retrofitting these buildings to make them more energy efficient – new windows and doors, , installation, roofing, modernizing heating and cooling equipment, is one of the fastest, easiest and cheapest things we can do to put Americans back to work while saving families money and reducing carbon emissions.” - President Obama (I think)

They are going to stay there, leaking out energy because it's doesn't make economic sense to change them due to the added costs of involving the government.
btw; Mr super smart ultra intelligent President Obama, when are you going to figure out that carbon emissions are not the cause of any Global Warming?
I'm waiting.

Maybe he can clarify his comments about Vancouver having a temperature of 55 because of global warming. It seems like every day he makes another comment revealing his ignorance of geography, history and basic science.Apparently he had no knowledge of the fact that Vancouver has the highest mean Feb. temperature of any recent Winter Olympics host city.Maybe he can find someone who speaks Canadian to explain it to him.
