‘Top Line’ — Can GOP Win Back Latino Voters?

ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: President Obama’s big margins among Latino voters in 2008 have prompted rounds of new efforts among Republicans to win back a critical — and fast-growing — demographic. Resurgent Republic, a newly formed conservative group, this month commissioned a poll on the subject. It found, among other interesting tidbits, that economic issues — not just social ones — could convince Latinos to vote Republican. But the poll also found that Latinos are generally inclined to support President Obama’s health care plan. On ABC’s “Top Line” today, we talked about Republican efforts to appeal to Latinos with Leslie Sanchez, a GOP strategist and a board member at Resurgent Republic. “I think the biggest issue with Hispanic voters is to realize there’s a lot of fluidity,” she said. “I think they’re very concerned about spending, deficits — those were the high marks, high water marks for us. And as Republicans, with strong fiscal policy I think there’s tremendous amount of appeal.” Sanchez also expressed concerns that the Tea Party events that have gotten so much attention seem to feature so few people of color. “If these Tea Party movements continue to look as if they’re led by a few fringe elements, it’s going to dissolve. It’s going to lose support not only among Latinos, ethnic communities, but women,” Sanchez said. “Latinos will never crash a party. But if you invite them they’ll bring the whole family.” Watch the discussion with Leslie Sanchez HERE.

More importantly…..SHOULD THEY???
Let’s be honest. The political parties cater to all voting blocs….but is the Latino vote a LEGAL vote?
I suspect that many illegals are getting away with voting in our elections, because neither political party wants to do ANYTHING about getting the illegals out of this country. (Simply…they catch and deport a few hundred, when they can easily identify thousands if they wanted to.)
Immigration reform will be another major battle in this country, and everyone knows the Dems will try to legalize, every single illegal that is currently in this country.
I really think the GOP would do the same.
Neither party, will do what is RIGHT, on the subject of Latinos…..and I am fairly certain, the PUBLIC ANGER will be right back in the government’s face, if they try to legalize all those illegals!

What in the _ell is Leslie Sanchez talking about when she says that Hispanics like the “strong fiscal policy” of Republicans? Since when did any of them make out any better on “tax cuts” philosophy than the rest of us? I have heard Ms. Sanchez talk before and I just get her. Nothing but an indoctrinated attractive attack dog for the “far right”.

The problem Republicans have with Latinos is caused entirely by the fact that the GOP is a racist organization. And they aren’t going to fix that until they stop with the endless race baiting that they’ve been doing quite deliberately since the days of Nixon.
The GOP made a conscious decision under Richard Nixon to become the party of racial backlash. Now they’re paying the price. And the stronger that price is, the better it will be for America. Because there is no place for a major party that engages in race baiting in the US.
