Without Abortion Changes, Stupak Will Defeat Health Care: ‘We’re Prepared to Take Responsibility’

That’s what Congressman Bart Stupak – who voted yes on health care last year – told me this morning on GMA.

He says he has 12 yes votes who will switch and vote against the President’s plan, unless Democratic leaders find a way to add his abortion language – which he says is the only clear prohibition of public abortion funding out there.

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius – also on GMA – disagrees, saying the President’s plan does “maintain the status quo” on abortion funding.  But if Stupak and his allies don’t buy that argument, can the bill pass?  Hard to see, unless Stupak’s group is much smaller than he says.

Here’s the debate from GMA

Why only Rangel? What about the incredible coruption in Michigan? Sen John Conyers wife going to prison on felony bribery and corruption charges and the target of a major RICO investigation?
And Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick whos son (Ex-Detroit Mayor) forced to resign and was sent to prison on felony charges and is also the key target in a RICO investigation along with her her husband? What has happened to investigative journalism? A a democrat I am disgusted that these people are allowed to represent the interests of Americans.

I support the health reform but NOT IF IT INCLUDES PUBLICALY FINANCED ABORTIONS. Civilized people don’t kill their young.

Stop the personal attacks on the Honorable Congressman Stupak.
Detroit is a near 3rd-world, declining city, governed by corrupt people, and the source of the bribes noted above.
Parts of Congressman Stupak district are 600 miles from Detroit.
Stop the inneundo, put in the Stupak language, and pass Health Care.

Stop the spending! Everybody thinks that money grows on trees these days and government can make things better. What dream world are you all in?

George,
Please do not promote the thought that abortion is the real issue when it is simply the red herring used to distract attention from wealthy insurance company greed and continued patriarchal control of women’s bodies. Ask those congressmen opposed to (federal government) insurance funding for women’s reproductive health to also oppose (federal government) insurance funding of Viagra and other erectile dysfunction medications. This would probably have a greater impact on reducing abortions than not funding women’s reproductive health insurance.
At a time when the number of women dying around childbirth is spiking, we should be doing more to support women’s reproductive health, not less!
Thank you for your attention!

Since when is leaving 40 million uninsured over ‘language” considered “responsible”? With your “ties”to C Street and the Family, Bart, I would just say you are nothing more than another political and religious hypocrite.

Typical of politicians trying to close the front door (abortions) and leaving the back door open (thousands of people dying because they have no insurance).

Stupak is a hypocrite. My own state and many others deny millions of poor children and their families Medicaid. As I understand it from coverage on ABC, the health reform bill has no abortion coverage except in cases of rape, incest or to protect the life of the mother. So Stupak is willing to see children already born die because of lack of adequate health care to make the point that women should not be able to have abortions, even in the case of rape, incest or medical risks to the health of the mother. Let Mr. Stupak fight his abortion battles in bills set aside for that issue. Pass health care reform. Hurting and dying children will be among those who benefit from health care reform most of all.

Kathleen..in response to your March 4 post. Maybe you should do some “more” resarch on Mr. Stupak before you give hime the term “honorable”. Try looking up what “C Street” and the “Family” is about and what they stand for. Mr. Stupak is an out and out HYPOCRITE with a very narrow mind. Exactly what our nation does not need any more of.

Bart, it’s morally wrong to leave 100 million Americans un or underinsured, 1 illness away from financial ruin. It’s wrong to expect small business to absorb the outrageous insurance costs also. Go fight your abortion war elsewhere… — saw a cool site; Balkingpoints ; incredible satellite view of earth

obama “IS” an embarrassment to our nation. pelosi is anathema to sound government & “IF” the dems pass this “social abortion,” called “National Health Care,” you will see an “EXODUS” of physicians from treating medicare patients that will make the exodus of the Jews to Israel after WW II look like a Sunday pic nic. Millions of seniors will lose their primary physician because we just won’t participate. I for one will just put up a sign in my waiting room stating that…”I will continue to see medicare patients; but, I will not participate in medicare reimbursement.” In short…….you (the patient) will have to pay for your medical treatment out of your own pocket AT THE MOMENT medical services are rendered. I didn’t go to school 13 years after high school to have the dems tell me what I can charge for my services. It is a simple process folks. Vote for this obamacare at your own expense. “CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?”

Isn’t it great that so many are willing to take responsibility for sending health care reform down to defeat. I guess that it’s improbable that they are related to any of the folks who will go without healthcare, or lose their homes or just die, as a direct result of the idea that nothing is too good for the general public and that is what we work so hard to deliver- nothing.
Celebrating 2 generations of blocking reform.

The funding for abortion IS in the bill, and I’m thinking it is around page 570 or so; saw it Tuesday but can’t recall exact page number. But there is a passage in the bill that allows for government funding of abortion, so hopefully God will finally “play his hand” and help this bill go down in defeat! We do not kill our own offspring!

If government funding of abortion is in the bill wouldn’t that make HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and President Barack Hussein Obama out and out liars? Ms Sebelius made the statement “the President’s plan does “maintain the status quo” on abortion funding”. Look around page 570 or so, funding is included in the bill, so I repeating the phrase “You Lie”!
