Obama Says AZ Immigration Bill ‘Misguided’
From Sunlen Miller:
President Obama today for the first time commented on the pending Arizona immigration case, saying the “misguided efforts” threaten to “undermine basic notions of fairness” that Americans cherish.
“Our failure to act responsibly at the federal level will only open the door to irresponsibility by others, and that includes, for example, the recent efforts in Arizona which threaten to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans, as well as the trust between police and our communities that is so crucial to keeping us safe,” the president said from the Rose Garden today.
The controversial bill would require police to question people about their immigration status if there’s reason to suspect they’re in the United States illegally. Republican Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has said she will decide soon whether she will sign the legislation.
The president said today that he’s instructed members of the administration to “closely monitor” the situation and “examine the civilian rights” and other implications of the legislation.
“But if we continue to fail to act at a federal level, we will continue to see misguided efforts opening up around the country,” he warned.
Mr. Obama said that the American people deserve comprehensive immigration reform grounded in responsibility and accountability. He thanked the efforts of Senators Schumer and Graham for working to help forge a “bipartisan consensus of a framework moving forward,” and sent a message to the Hill today that he would like all to join in on the efforts.
“I’ll continue to consult with Democrats and Republicans in Congress. And I would note that 11 current Republican senators voted to pass immigration reform four years ago. And I’m hopeful that they will join with Democrats in doing so again so we can make the progress the American people deserve.”
The president made his remarks at a naturalization ceremony for 24 active duty service members, who were sworn in by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano while the president watched just moments before.
“We celebrate the spirit of possibility, an ethic that says if you’re willing to put your shoulder to the wheel and apply your God- given talents, if you believe in yourself and you play by the rules then there is a place for you in the United States of America, no matter where you come from and no matter what you look like,” the president said congratulating the “newest citizens.”

“if we continue to fail to act at a federal level, we will continue to see misguided efforts opening up around the country.” -President Obama
A pretty restrained response to Arizona’s new “Your papers pleeze!” law. Immigration is broken at the federal, and that includes enforcement. I’m glad to see Obama understands that. Hopefully with a few more Democrats in the Senate now than when the Republicans deadlocked on the issue something can get done. The status quo is not acceptable. And Arizona’s step towards a police state is understandable, but also not acceptable.

How is it misguided? You risk catching people here illegally? That’s it! Because that’s the next Democrat voting bloc Obama’s going after. Obamacare locked in a few million more and now, as soon as he gets the illegals amnesty, he’s got another 10,000,000 Democrat votes for 2012 and beyond. Wouldn’t want to OFFEND people who are here illegally, would we. God help us.

From ABC’s front page right now: “The investigation, which was conducted by the SEC’s internal watchdog at the request of Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, found 31 serious offenders during the past two and a half years. That’s less than 1 percent of the agency’s 3,500 employees”
Less than 1 percent of the employees? Certainly it needs to be addressed, and some of the offenders have been properly sacked, but I’m not going to condemn Bush (you did read the part about it starting in 2008, right?) or Obama (who has only appointed one of the 5 commissioners, the other 4 were Bush appointees) for having what is a common employee conduct issue. I would think less of any President if he took his eye off the real issues to deal with a sensational headline about a department he has no direct control over.
The SEC does not answer to the President or any of his cabinet and by law the President has no power to fire or discipline anyone at the SEC.

I am all for enforcement of our immigration laws. But I have a suspicion that anyone who looks Hispanic will be targeted. Its funny, that people don’t mind someone in a foreign factory making thier cheap clothes, but when anyone comes here to try to have a better life, they have to be scooped up in a net and sent back. Go ahead, send them back to Central America, Cuba ( think that people seem to praise when cubans make it here, to escape the “oppressive regime” of Castro. But if you are from Central America trying to come here to work in the fields, kick them out. I say go ahead, and then watch the price of fruit and veggies go through the roof, then you will see some compassion. I seem to think Ms. Palin said this is a Christian nation, well aren’t Christians suppose to love thier fellow man and cloth the naked, feed the hungry, visit the sick? Or does this just apply to White American Christians.

Fairness has nothing to do with, enforcement of the laws, in this country.
The law has not been enforced, and that is what is unfair….on the part of the federal government.

Please state exactly what “reasonable suspicion” is. And if you can do it without running afoul of the Constitution, why didn’t the law writers do it too? Did they WANT to give a bunch of lawyers work for the next few years doing it for them?

Arizona is literally overrun by illegal immigrants. Every tax payer suffers because of it. Medicaid is prevented from even asking about legal status by a series of Democrat-authored rules. Schools are in the same boat. Federal mandates then require treatment and education – without respecting the state’s right to limit who receives the services. If Obama want’s to visit “Fair”. Let’s review that the consitution limits the federal government to very specific duties; those that states cannot provide themselves. These would include military defense, trade negotiations, and managing borders. With the federal government inflicting rules on health care, education and other traditionally state-run programs, at least they could manage the borders. If the federal government CAN’T do at least that, and insists on inserting itself into forcing companies and individuals to buy health insurance or pay penalties if they don’t, they could at least let a state that is being bankrupted by Washington’s absurd rules do SOMETHING to protect itself from going under financially. While Arizona is probably the worst example, the same issues are dragging Texas and California down as well. Even Nevada, where Harry Reid lives, is facing similar problems. And Reid, always anxious to use our dollars to get more Democratic votes, is pushing to get an amnesty bill out of the Senate BEFORE the November elections. Just how much will they hi-jack our states’ rights and options before they are voted out or retire (as so many are doing)? It’s up to you to right, call, email and visit elected officials. If not, and your over 50, you can quit complaining about the cuts in Medicare and Social Security that you will see.

Amazing that this President refuses to impose the laws of the United States. Illegals are criminals who have broken the laws of the United States. The Mexican government is allowing this to happen because they benefit financially from monies sent back to Mexican families. AZ and all the border states need to stop the illegal invasion whether the Mexicans and the US President like it or not. Obama wants only the illegal votes. Real Americans want to save their country and their way of life.

Our government fails the most basic and primary task & duty of government, spelled out in our Constitution Article IV Section IV to protect this Nation and its Citizens from invasion and enforce its laws.
Our Government, past & present, Republican & Democrat, have allowed the invasion of 20 to 30 million criminals and uneducated peons which is the largest invasion of any Nation, at any time, by any means & in direct violation of Article IV Section IV of our Constitution.
This refusal by our Lawless Politicians to abide by our Constitution, enforce our Immigration Laws and honor their Oath of Office should be classified as Treason of the most foul kind, & as grounds for Impeachment & trials for Treason!
Not only have they allowed the invasion, they have aided, encouraged & assisted in this invasion and provided sanctuary for the invaders. While forcing American tax payers to pay Billions on Billions of dollars to provide Welfare, Prison cells, Educate the invaders numerous children, and free medical care, at the same time the invading horde break numerous laws and massive document fraud, & are destroying our schools, hospitals, communities, culture and standard of living while Robbing, Raping, Killing & Assaulting American Citizens at an rate that Islam Terrorist can only dream about.
Recent statements in Mexico from both President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary something needs to be done. “Our inability to prevent weapons from being illegally smuggled across the border to arm these criminals causes the deaths of police officers, soldiers, and civilians,” Hillary whined.
But no mention, whines, concern or care that their refusal to stop the Massive Invasion of Illegal Aliens pouring across our borders or enforce our immigration laws that causes an estimated 25 Americans deaths per day and 10,s of thousands victims of Assault, Robberies, Rapes, Identify thief, and other assorted crimes committed by the invading horde of Illegal Aliens on American citizens each year!
It is a telling indictment & shows their Empathy & Compassion of our Politic class & their priorities are not for the American citizens when they express more concern over Mexicans deaths mostly connected to the Drug trade, than the murders, havoc & crimes of Illegal Aliens against American Citizens!
The Democrats view the invading horde of Criminals and Uneducated, Prolific breeding, Third World rejects as Undocumented Welfare Democrats & the Republicans as Undocumented Slave labor for their Pay Masters in the Chamber of Commerce & Businesses!
Most of our Politicians in Wash. DC are wading knee deep in innocent American blood and suffering because they put Self Interest ahead of the interest of American Citizens & the future of this Nation!
The Citizens of this Nation have not sacrificed with blood, sweat & tears for over 200 years & obeyed the Laws of the land, paid the taxes, and fought the wars & built this Nation to see Corrupt politicians turn this Nation into the United States of Mexico without a shot being fired, to serve their demented, nefarious goals!

If Obama & the Democrats really wanted to create millions jobs, Raise our standard of living, Increase tax collections by billions, Improve our Medical care while decreasing costs, Decrease crime, save 100,s of billions in welfare, Improve our schools while decreasing cost, Provide billions more to simulate the economy etc. etc. all they have to do is Abide by our Constitution against Invasion, Enforce our Immigration Laws & and Honor their Oath of Office!
Meantime, with a effective unemployment rate of around 17 percent, the invasion continues. No Liberal Politician will address the 500 pound gorilla in the room, and millions of invading, welfare loving, Prolific breeding, Illegal Aliens taking millions of jobs that should be American jobs and 100,s billions of dollars in social services that should be for American citizens while driving our standard of living down by estimated 250 billion per year!
One cannot be political correct and admit that Illegal Aliens are an large part of the problems in this Nation.
Their negative impact extends to every area from Sub-par loans & defaults, Underground economy, Massive document fraud, Lower standard of living, Crime, Overflowing prisons , Bankrupted hospitals, Failing schools, Property Taxes, Insurance costs, Environment, Culture, Welfare costs, Welfare fraud, SS fraud, Voter fraud, Disrespect for our laws & country, our Constitution against invasion and even Balance of payments occurring from oil and other imports to support the 20 to 30 million illegal aliens in this country!
One has to only look at Calif. which is basically mostly an Spanish speaking, Bankrupt state that is the future of this Nation. They can know longer afford to provide Welfare, Schooling, Medical, Prison cells etc. for millions of MS-13 Gang bangers, Drug dealers, Rapist and other assorted Criminals and Uneducated, Prolific breeding, third world Parasites from South of the border!
In a very few years it will be impossible to see where Mexico ends and Calif. begins as both will be an third world cesspool!
Failure to secure our borders and reward the Invading horde for their invasion and their relatives in an never ending chain with American Citizenship is nothing less than committing National Suicide & will assure our future is an over populated Spanish speaking third world Nation that is an Cesspool of Corruption, Crime, Poverty and Misery modeled on Mexico!

I hope Arizona municipalities are getting ready to open their checkbooks wide. The police will definitely be demanding that dark skinned AMERICAN BORN citizens prove they are not illegal aliens. Constitutionally, a person is not required to respond to police questioning. When the police then arrest citizens because they have a “suspicion” that they are illegal immigrants, myself and many other lawyers like me will be champing at the bit to sue their butts for civil rights violations, which will require them to pay big dollars and big attorneys’ fees. So, to the idiots of the Arizona legislature, I can only say, “go ahead, make my day!”

Two points.
1. Since there are legal as well as illegal immigrants in Arizona, what, besides skin color or appearance, will supply the police with reasonable suspicion that a person is illegal. (Of course, there are also many, many, many dark skinned AMERICANS WHO WERE BORN IN AMERICA and undoubtely the police will grab many of those people, who will then have good civil rights suits, and Arizona municipalities will end up paying big bucks for their “macho” attitude, which is as it should be. Remember the AMERICANS of Japanese ancestry who were put in what amounted to prison camps during WW2 and all their property was stolen from them by the government. We didn’t have the civil rights laws then, but we do now, and Arizona governments are going to end up paying big bucks believe me). The people who support this bill have not thought about the lawyers just waiting in the wings, like Dirty Harry saying “make my day!” Arizonans you will deserve what you get! And I might just point out, for all of you “real Americans” who fancy yourselves as Christians, when confronted with these Mexicans you hate so much (unless they’re doing your landscaping for paltry wages), WWJD??????????????? Or have you forgotten what your savior was really all about?
2. Those who are saying that non-citizens have no rights are wrong and don’t know the law. If you’re not a lawyer, don’t act like one. 2.

And the well documented history that the elderly would be unable to access health care in America and frequently resulted in the financial ruin of their offspring (those ‘stupid’ enough to mortgage their homes and businesses just to try to help mom or dad have a few extra years) in the attempt without socialized health insurance. Decriminalize possession of small amounts of drugs, and these cartels lose money for helicopters, explosives and arms… But no, Obama can’t bring himself to even decriminalize Marijuana for even medicinal use for old people.
Let alone end the war on drugs which targets the poor and minorites specifically…
Quite simply the man is an empty suit who sold his soul to the big banks and the establishment…
We voted for Obama and all he left us with, literal change in our pockets. While our billions subsidize the elite and very rich.
Bush once called the elite his base, it appears Obama happily is doing the same.
Forget about simply calling this a lie, it is mere TRAGEDY!!!
Vote incumbents out… THEN we will have OUR Change!!! FINALLY!!!

I thought that was the argument. The police couldn’t ask for documentation.
wow | Apr 23, 2010 1:48:29 PM
The police can’t stop anyone on the street and demand documentation under punishment of imprisonment. The classic Cold War era “Your papers pleeze!” secret police line.
You can, and in my state (NY) are actually required, to ask for documentation before hiring anyone.
See the difference? “Please include your SS# and home address with your application” versus getting stopped by the police when you’re in a hurry to pick your kid up at daycare down the block from work – and held at the local jail if you left your wallet at your desk on the way out the door.
Do you honestly not see the difference? Some intellectual liberal elites once phrased it as:
“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated”

If this became law, AZ law enforcement types would have the right to pull us over and ask for identification regardless of the locales or whatever.
This is not what we, and other vets of difference races, fought for. It is what we fought againist.

The lunatic-left extremists are fully living up to their name in their reaction to the latest, outstanding legislation from Arizona’s top legislator, Sen. Russell Pearce. The socialist media is screaming epithets at our state and everyone of the 70% of our citizens that support this bill. The other d-crat socialists are, once again, foaming-at-the-mouth while spewing forth with their hatred and incendiary and abuse rhetoric against anybody that wants to protect our country from those that violate our law.
To paraphrase michelle o (with an update and correction): “For not the first time in my life, I am proud of my state.”
Three cheers for Sen. Pearce and the Great State of Arizona!

Let’s not forget people, that Obama’s aunt is still waiting to hear if she will be deported. Yup, let’s not forget she’s another illegal and should have been deported long ago. Why hasn’t she been deported yet? Well heck, you can’t deport the relative of the president now can you? When will she be deported? When he’s voted out of office in 2012. Good bye Mr. Obama. The Dem’s are about to get their walking papers. Saddly, they will still have careers to go back to as lawyers and doctors.

Its all about gain, one way or the other. Political gain, monetary gain or some other form of power grab. It shows that President Obama and his cohorts of Democrats, mostly the liberal-socialists hidden within the party. These is the open-border leaders, who are promoting that illegal immigrants to get some kind of Amnesty, camouflaged under Comprehensive Immigration reform. Amnesty of any kind will be fiercely fought, specifically when millions of Americans are jobless. The Democrats are well aware that this will bring into their fold, blocks of foreign nationals who they can count on for a vote in future elections. But Republicans cannot stand back from their own party, as many are just as guilty, catering to the big corporate suppliers of campaign money. It seems both parties have lost track that they are just public employees and can be thrown out of office.
Pro-Amnesty Sen. Harry Reid, John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Chuck Schumer, Janet Napolitano, Nancy Pelosi and other anti-sovereignty lawmakers have forgotten who pays their wages. Its certainly not the tens of millions of illegal immigrants, who are supported by American tax dollars. Everybody who is anti-amnesty should dearly read Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX) who clearly outlines that the country is heading for bankruptcy, if we don’t stop this amnesty. He has determined from his connections with the accounting agencies within the government, actual costs of present illegal immigration. He has not sterilized the dollar figures, as this his own statement of facts in his own words. He is at least honest about the financial predicament we as a nation are in as set down in the “DAILY CALLER WEBSITE”. We should obviously offer a new life to specialized immigrants, with a high ratio of jobs opportunities. They will not ever be sitting amongst our own citizens in the welfare offices. But other illegal people with only manual hands should be deported, as we have millions of our own low-wage earners who should be a priority.
Congressional brains doesn’t seem to understand or intentionally refused to, that millions of more people will try and cross the stressed border, if Obama gets to sign an amnesty. THAT ANOTHER REASON WE NEED FEDERAL TROOPS TO GUARD THE BORDER. US Border patrol doesn’t have the agents, or the local police have enough manpower to stop this onslaught. Many more will jump on planes in hope of a new life. Those in Washington cannot even comprehend more pregnant females, entering American air space or through the border fence, to have their instant-citizenship baby here–that your money will be extracted to pay for? Least by not last is the chain migration that will follow, will bring another hundred million to our shores in the future. That’s another reason to give Gov. Jan Brewer the bounty of our strength for her to sign the Arizona immigration law, giving police enforcement power at (602) 542-4331 Rasmussen poll say 70 % percent of Arizona residents–SUPPORT–this law being passed. If you are–NOT–an open border extremist, join the organization that is fighting for our rights, freedoms and liberty at NumbersUSA.

If the police ask you questions, you do not have to answer. If you do answer, states can by statute make it a crime to lie. Let’s assume you “look Mexican” but you’re an American citizen. The police ask for your ID and you refuse and you refuse to answer questions. How do they get “suspicion” that you might be an illegal immigrant? Only one way: skin color. This is where it will go if that bill passes. Frankly, that’s fine with the Arizona legislature, because they are so apoplectic about illegal immigrants, they are willing to trample the rights of U.S. citizens. Throw out the baby with the bath water? Fine. Oddly, I do not see how this bill will help Arizona. The illegals are not taking the jobs Arizonans want. It will isolate Arizona as a redneck backwater that most tourists other than old people who want to retire there will avoid. President Obama is being polite by saying the bill is misguided.
Posted by: Mike in Philly | April 23, 2010, 2:08 pm 2:08 pm
It’s much worse than “misguided” it’s un-American, we in this country should not be required to produce identification papers at the whim of police and before you con nitwits go off on how “illegals are illegal”, that law says that LEGAL US citizens can be fined and jailed for not providing papers on request. Un-American.

What is very disconcerting is that it’s clear from so many on this site that they are perfectly happy to be racist. I think many of those posters lack a true understanding of racism (and aren’t much interested in being enlightened). Most would probably also claim to be Christians. You cannot despise ANY human being and at the same time be following Jesus Christ. That is impossible, so don’t kid yourself. If your are hating or despising a person, you are doing EXACTLY what Christ forbids.
Posted by: Southern Baptist | April 23, 2010, 2:12 pm 2:12 pm
“that law says that LEGAL US citizens can be fined and jailed for not providing papers on request.” If that is true, it is blatantly unconstitutional and does not stand a chance of holding up in court. That means, no big surprise, these Arizona politicians (who know that) are playing shamelessly on the ignorance and prejudices of Arizona citizens (who basically have no clue what is lawful and what is not but have learned to hate Mexicans).

What you are saying just isn’t true. People set up migrant camps in open space. They are living under cardboard and then ride their bikes around neighborhoods looking for work. This would not be about stopping random “dark skinned” people. Unless you live in the southwest you don’t understand. We see it everyday.
These people are also victimized. We do need to fix our immigration system. But we also need to enforce our laws.

I am not a politician…i dont care if you are on the far right or the far left…this is more than ever, an issue of civil rights and dignifying people. Most of us are law-abiding citizens, paying our taxes without a due. I am an illegal immigrant. I am 21 years old. And you know what sucks: to be jugded on a basis of a paper and not on my abilities. I cant work. Because to many of you, i am a criminal. My parents brought me to this country when I was 7. Came here legally with my visa. My whole family arrived legally. But my parents neglected to update our visa papers when it was possible. September 11 happened and we were all left outside looking in. I graduated from high school…went through college; yet that doesnt matter. I am a criminal. For something I had no control over. I go to a job interview; i get rejected. Not because I am not apt to perform the duties for the job i have applied for; no, i am denied the freedom to work because of a paper that i don’t posses. Again, i was 7 years of age when my parents brought me here. even though I have a college degree, I am unfit to work. Can anyone really tell to go back to my “country” of origin, and really, truly believe that is the right thing to do? That is not cruel??? To send a person back to a place where he or she has no real recolection of it. People, I am as american as the next person or citizen of this country. I am watching the NFL draft as I write this(Hope my Texans select a secondary player-maker). Anyway, This is not my country; I have no allegiance to any country, for I am neutral…This is my home. This is where I grew up. And here is where i made my life. You are not here in America because you people chose to be here…you are all here because you were born and raised here. This is more your home than it is your country. And the same goes to me and the millions of young kids in my situation. I am not going to sit here and act like a victim. Tomorrow, I will get back early in the morning, and start looking for a decent job. One that will allow me to pay my bills. I am getting married very soon, and i desperately search for a way to sustain my future wife. Its hard, but I just wake up and pray that the next job I interview for, will be my last for a while. But like everything, nothing is guaranteed. The next time they reject me because I “don’t have real papers”, I will do what I have been doing for the last 5 years of my life: dust the negativity off me, as much as it stings, remain positive, and wish that company best of luck. If you really think that is a fair treatment to a fellow human being, I would hope that someday you can see this through my eyes.
And one more thing: there is a very thin line between talking about deporting all illegal immigrants and acting on those ideas. That is a very somber perspective. The only way you will accomplish that, is to round up all of us, and treat us as animals. The sad part, is that, this is supposed to be a civilized nation. Overcame slavery and Jim Crowe laws of the past. This nation said “Never Again” after the atrocities of WW2. Yet, some of you speak as if that is the only option to the Immigration problem. Because that is the only option to really get rid of all the illegal immigrants. Be realistic, there is no other options. You really think that 20+ million people are just going to up and leave? Dont be Naive…And dont insult my intellegence, and that of the rest of americans.
To conclude, realize that in this country of freedoms, there are still injustices. I am living proof of that. Now I will go back to watching the NFL draft…and rest…for tomorrow, I have another date with injustice. Looking for a chance to earn a living. I just hope this time, justice will be blind and not judgemental…
Posted by: edgar | April 23, 2010, 2:23 pm 2:23 pm
wow — I don’t deny there’s a problem. But enacting an unconsitutional law is not the solution. Also, it’s not jus the law, what about the fact that many of these people need to eat and cannot do so in Mexico (many becuase of the effects of NAFTA)? We cannot turn our backs on the needy just because they did not go throught the immigraton process to arrive here (which would not have been possible).

In the immortal words of the Pres if AZ is picking up a mop to clean up after the feds porous border they don’t need people who helped created it (yes he was in the Senate when legislation addressing this had come up and has been Pres now for some time) sitting around complaining about it.
Yes, I like most really don’t want citizens or those here legally profiled. However you have to look at the “Wild West” they (including those same citizens and those here legally) are dealing with in AZ. They need to do something to address what the feds are not and they have received no that’s no help when requesting help or troops.

Learn ENGLISH, speak it, read it fluently, take civic classes, pass the test and be sworn in as an American. My mother did and she is now a proud American citizen.
No, she didn’t immigrate from Mexico, she actually came from Germany. Why should we have to accommodate Mexicans by becoming bilingual in order to get a job? We shouldn’t have to. If they refuse to learn English, then it’s their problem, not mine.

The REALITY is that the Obama administration has increased funds to control the borders and increased the number of agents. Under the umbrella of Homeland Security funding increases, this administration allotted $1.4 billion to Immigration and Customs Enforcement to ensure that illegal aliens who commit crimes “are expeditiously identified and removed” from the United States. Another $110 million is provided to continue expansion of the E-Verify program, which helps employers ensure that their workers are authorized to work in the United States. Yet those BILLIONS in funding doesn’t even qualify as an attempt to control our borders in your biased eyes.
The law being discussed here has NOTHING to do with controlling the borders. It does have something to do with the 4th Amendment – for EVERYONE, not just illegal aliens (who, believe it or not, can be mistaken for Real American Citizens).

That’s this admin’s approach to everything–spend more money. We all know they can spend money. HOW you spend it and the structure you put in place are secondary in their approach (they ought to be first- see examples of Guatanemo, the stimulus, the response to the Christmas bomber or the healthcare bill) and so far have proven to be ineffective. You didn’t even address the previous posts about all the policies and practices this admin has put in place to make it harder to do the very thing they are “funding”. Throwing federal money around when a state is asking for the already trained troops to come and secure their own fed border and he passes appropriations with no direct response (while kidnapping, murders and all the rest are going on) is a sideshow. That’s how this admin has been working and people recognize it even my lifelong dem family who would never have said anything about dems see it! It’s kind of the same approach as the healthcare bill. That’s right because controlling the borders is a FEDERAL responsibility. AZ shouldn’t have to deal with illegals getting into their state if the border were secured by the fed hence the hypocrisy of the Pres’s statements. They’ll monitor AZ how about fixing the FED border problem then there would be no issues in AZ.

What obammna wants to do, in his fairy tale mind, leaves these people illegal and unable to support themselves for months at best. Probably years. How long? All the while, he’s eating 3 meals a day.
There is no logic to be found in that.

Military judge clears the second Navy SEAL charged in the beating of an Iraqi terror suspect in wake of the grisly killings of four American contractors.

How refreshing.
A politician who is politically courageous instead of politically correct.
Obama should take notes.
But he is too worried about losing popularity and losing votes.

Why are Mexicans coming here?
Michelle Obama said Mexico was perfectly safe.

Just what the Obama cheerleaders needed, another excuse to call people racist.
How long before buses full of Obama’s rent-o-mobs show up in Arizona?

Legal American citizens live in fear in their own homes and Obama calls the governor’s decision to protect them “misguided”.
I think Obama’s decision to ignore her pleas for help for 14 months is “misguided”.

Edgar, you are indeed in a tough spot. Keep in mind though that you are in this situation because the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT has abandoned you by ignoring the border closure all these years – not its citizens. The last amnesty in the mid-80s was a complete failure other than to reset the clock because the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT failed to close the borders. A lot of people remember that failure – even if you were too young to be a part of it – and don’t want the same thing to happen all over again. We must close the southern borders at minimum before we can address your situation. Without closing the borders first, history will simply repeat itself.

Is this another one of Obama’s meddling statements like he made about the Cambridge Police Office? I’m of Mexican descent and my grandparents came here LEGALLY.
How else are officers supposed to track illegal aliens? After all, by definition, they are ILLEGAL; and by definition, police officers are there to stop ILLEGAL activity. Obama is such a meddlesome petty dictator.

Well add that to the INSURANCE papers that you will now have to carry around to prove that you have purchased DEMOCRAT approved health insurance… otherwise expect a fine or even jail.

I watched his little speech about this and was awestruck…Obama basically said that it’s fundamentally “unfair” to follow the rule of law in the US. What planet is this joker from?

Gotta do something..for us who live on the southern border cities, it’s getting to the point in which you cannot let your kids walk to the school bus stops anymore for fear of being caught in drug war cross fire…Time to protect our kids and their future with a safe environment in which to live…I applaud the move and wish more Governors had the bravery to do it…

So it’s wrong for Americans to stand up for Americans but OK for noncitizens to have the say-so just so they aren’t discriminated against. WE pay the taxes and we — the Americans need to show everyone who’s wearing the pants.

All I see here is stupid comments about illegals “stealing” jobs. Stop Bitching. Stop complaining, What has happened to all those jobs out there that have been lost due to having been sent overseas for cheaper labor? Isn’t it better to keep those jobs in US soil? “Keep America working!?”
I see other comments that “illegals” are responsible for gang violance, murders, wars… Did you already forget about those kids who shot up schools? who rape and murder “just to see what it was like” because mommmy and daddy handed everything to them and never really learned to value anything. Terrorism…. that gets blamed on illegals also… when it’s been proven that all those guys came in with visas!Wake up! I’m not saying that illegals have no flaws because they do. EVERY race has their bad seeds. EVERY! And yes the Government does need to put a lock on that border, I’m all up for that, but they also need to deal with the ones who are already here and not only are they a part of this Great Nation, but they contribute as well because by continuing this idiocy of sending them all back… your only going to cause our Nation major hardship…

Just because a person is an illiegal immigrant, doesn’t mean they will have dark skin. An immigrant from Russia or Ireland would, most likely, have white skin. There are still signs that they may be illiegal. For instance, the inability to speak english. Someone that has no documentation on their person should get 30 days, or some amount of time, to return to a police station and show proper ID. If they can’t do that, the state should be able to issue a warrant for their arrest.
