ABC News’ David Chalian reports: Just in case the magazine covers, a keynote slot at CPAC, and the line of Republicans tripping over themselves to endorse him did not serve as a bright enough signal, take a look at Marco Rubio’s fundraising and it will be crystal clear who currently claims the moniker “Republican Rising Star” more appropriately than anyone else. The conservative darling former Assembly Speaker hauled in more than $3.6 million in the first three months of this year. His GOP opponent, Gov. Charlie Crist, has yet to announce how much he raised in the first quarter. The governor entered 2010 with $7.5 million cash on hand compared to Rubio’s $2.1 million cash on hand at the close of 2009. But to give you some perspective on how impressive that is: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who finds himself in the political battle of his life, raised $1.5 million in the same time period. Rubio’s meteoric rise has some Washington tongues wagging about an Obama-style possible path to his party’s next presidential nomination, though there are clearly many potential obstacles to such an outcome.
