As a 66 yr old progressive Democrat, I believe it is time for old timers- BOTH Democrats and Republicans to pass the torch to the younger generation. The world is far more complex than the oldies can process. Let’s clean the House (and Senate) and bring new ideas to the Congress.

She was Jewish, not an atheist. The difference is often confused by people who don’t understand that Jews believe life is all about the next generation. Many Jews believe there is no after life and God is one sick jokester. As you know, he made the rules about men laying with men and reserved judgement for himself. Didn’t leave that one up to man to vote on.

I agree, Ayn Rand was a brilliant thinker and conservatives conveniently forget she was also pro-abortion rights and a vehement athiest. She was so anti-collective action she couldn’t abide Libertarians – too organized! I think her philosophy has appealing elements, but she forgot that most big human achievements require cooperation amongst individuals, truly,in the real world, “no man is an island.”

Amy in Maine; Ayn Rand was a very intelligent woman who left her native communist country seeking individual freedom in America. There’s a plethera of Ayn Rand quotes on the net. I think her philosopy on most issues is deeply insightful, probably because she personally experienced first oppression and then freedom. Surely anyone who has that background recognizes the signs of the kind of heavy handed government oppression our founders were determined to escape and prevent in the future. A gradual restriction of freedoms may not be so apparent to those who have only known freedom. Nor do we who have never experienced government oppression appreciate the full value of the freedoms we are afforded as American citizens. She recognized that our founders attempted to craft a constitution for the people that would prevent the new central government from ever misinterpreting the founders’ intent to give individuals boundless personal freedoms. Any restrictions are constitutionally directed at the government, not the private or business sector which is also the private sector.
