Michelle Obama Kicks Off the “Let’s Move” Program on the South Lawn

ABC News' Lisa Chinn reports:

Wearing black Converse tennis shoes, black pedal pushers and  the omnipresent cardigan, First Lady Michelle Obama hosted several Washington area school children for some outdoor exercise on the South Lawn.

In remarks she gave to the assembled group of kids wearing “Let’s Move” t-shirts, she asked them to make a promise “that you will do your best to get that 60 minutes in every single day, and that you will find other people in your family and your schools and encourage them to do the same thing."

What followed was a good 30 minutes of structured play and exercise with help from Washington area sports teams conditioning personnel.  Mrs. Obama participated with the kids, running in relays and giving out “high fives.”

I got so excited when I heard Michelle was on the lawn of the WH saying “let’s move”….too bad she was talking about exercising.

I think Michelle is wonderful for trying to change kids and adult’s attitudes about exercising. Too many of us have forgotten or never knew, how good it feels to move our bodies. Research has shown that it isn’t enough to exercise for 30 minutes a day if you are a couch potato and working at a desk the rest of the day. Pace while you are on the phone, get up to change the channel on your tv, walk your dog more often. Ever notice how restless people aren’t usually overweight or seem out of shape?
Thank you to Michelle for bringing our attention to the silent epidemic of obesity and lack of fitness as well as the fun of moving.

Lydia:
Obesity is NOT an epidemic. It would be an epidemic if it was communicable.
This term is used incorrectly. PS. It’s not a “crisis” either.
