"You mean like come up with money for Iraq that Obama voted against?"
That bill passed the Senate easily.
The vote for defense spending that McCain voted against because it included a timeline was a bit closer but it still passed.
(That is what made Cindy McCain's attack so craven, btw)
The same year Bush vetoed a defense spending bill with a timeline for withdraw.
Tell us again how chemotherapy is experimental "doctor"?

"Taking care of our troops and bringing them home is more important."
No, golf is more important than that.
drjohn | May 6, 2010 12:15:44 PM
Bush gave up golf for years and it didn't bring a single soldier home. Maybe he should have kept up the golf on weekends and spent a few more weekdays doing this sort of dull work of strategy and management.

Absolutely agree jhw - the golf thing is bumper sticker nonsense. Bush got caught being dumb enough to say something to the effect of 'we're coming to git them terrorists - now watch me hit this drive'. It didn't play very well in the media. Did he deserve the odd game of golf - of course.

My favorite remark of the day:
Obama's National Security Plan--hope their bombs don't work.
Boy isn't that the truth?

Or so you mean come up with the surge strategy that Obama voted against?
drjohn | May 6, 2010 1:06:19 PM
Yes. Why did it take so many years and thousands of dead American men and women for Bush to FINALLY realize staying the course was a bad idea and a strategy change was needed? The 'surge' strategy should have been implemented on day one, or at least by year two.

"What, exactly, do you see is the role of Obama in this? Typically, the feds get involved only in the face of larger disasters"
How big to they have to be before the One cares? How many people have to die before the One cares? Or maybe, what kind of people have to die before the One cares?

Whitehouse statement May 4th:
"Our thoughts and prayers are with every American who has been impacted by the severe weather and flooding in the southeast, and our deepest condolences go out to those who have lost loved ones. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the local first responders who have been working tirelessly to save lives and protect property in the face of these devastating storms. I have spoken with the Governors in the most severely impacted states, and yesterday I dispatched FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate to Tennessee to view the flood damage first hand and to report back on any unmet needs. Federal officials have been dispatched to the region and we will continue working in close coordination with state and local officials to support response and recovery efforts."
I guess Foxnews didn't cover it so drjohn missed it.

I sure hope someone puts Nashville on the President's agenda. Billion dollars worth of damage, 19 dead, and nothing from Obama.
drjohn | May 6, 2010 12:12:01 PM
The rescue operations are winding down and power is expected to be restored to the majority of the city by Friday. The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency and other state agencies have done and are doing their jobs well.
What, exactly, do you see is the role of Obama in this? Typically, the feds get involved only in the face of larger disasters or manifest incompetence. Neither applies here. The state agencies should be left to do their jobs until they ask for (or at least appear to need) help.

No, golf is more important than that.
