The Presidential Planner

From Sunlen Miller President Obama at 10 am this morning will announce the nomination of Solicitor General Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court,  to replace retiring Justice John Paul Stevens. The announcement will be made in the East Room of the White House. The president will spend the rest of the day behind-closed-doors in private meetings.  In late morning, the president will meet with the 17 members of the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board (PERAB) in the Oval Office to get an update on the economy. Later in the afternoon, the President will meet with many of his Cabinet members and senior staff in the White House Situation Room, to discuss the cleanup of the oil spill in the Gulf. The White House says the president is anticipated, “to review BP efforts to stop the oil leak as well as to decide on next steps to ensure all is being done to contain the spread, mitigate the environmental impact and provide assistance to affected states, including individuals, businesses, and communities.” Later in the afternoon, the President will meet separately with Secretary of the Treasury Geithner and Secretary of Energy Chu in the Oval Office. -Sunlen Miller
