The Presidential Planner

From Sunlen Miller

After receiving his regular rounds of morning briefings, President Obama this morning will sign the Freedom of Press Act in the Oval Office.

The law is for journalist Daniel Pearl who was killed while reporting from Pakistan in 2002.

Afterward Mr. Obama will honor the NCAA champion University of Connecticut women’s basketball team with a Rose Garden ceremony to for their season this year.  The Huskies earned their second straight NCAA Championship and had back-to-back undefeated seasons.

What press? How about a prime-time press conference? I’m sure he will get the usual tough questions,eg-”What is your favorite color?”.

Right wingers are just never satisfied. At one point, Obama is overexposed to the point FoxNews doesn’t even both to air his prime time press conference. Now he’s not giving enough press conferences. Make up your mind.
And don’t forget this is the only president in at least a generation who accepted live questions from the opposition House Caucus – and did so well FoxNews actually cut away, embarrassed by his unprompted command of the facts screwing up their empty suit storyline…

JHW – you are wrong about Fox News not carrying Obama’s press conference – it was the FOX channel.. NOT Fox News!
IF you bothered to check out Fox News rather than just spew hate, you would see that they go LIVE every single time he speaks in public. ABC doesn’t do it. I’ve actually turned FOX News off on occasion because it was all OBAMA. So you people who think Fox isn’t fair – should watch it instead of spouting off things you know nothing about!

and how long in advance had those questions be submitted, so they could be reviewed and put on the telepromter?????

The REPUBLICAN HOUSE CAUCUS did not submit a single question ahead of time. Obama had no notes, and he did not have a teleprompter. Seriously, how disconnected from reality do you have to be to think the Republicans in the house – who unanimously voted against the stimulus and regularly call Obama a Socialist – agreed to prescreen questions?!?!?

Meanwhile, in documented reality, FoxNews cut away from the President taking unscripted questions from the Republican House caucus (and showing a very good command of the facts). I guess they only go live when they want to?

Why has no other president in at least a generation taking live, unscripted questions from the opposition caucus? What were they afraid of?
Do you honestly think the press would give Obama a harder grilling than he got from the Republicans?
And just for context – on average, how many prime time new conferences do Presidents give?

How long since the last prime-time Obama press conference? It is a simple question. What is he afraid of?Obviously there must be a reason why he doesn’t want to have one.

President Obama’s last major press conference was July 22, 2009. Since then the U.S. has escalated the War in Afghanistan, had two terrorist incidents over Detroit and in Manhattan, the Fort Hood Shooting; a new wildly controversial immigration law passed in Arizona, a major volcano which has disrupted global travel, an unprecedented oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, incumbent politicians losing primaries in droves, a near catastrophic and still as yet unexplained 1,000 point drop in the Dow, the Supreme Court Blocking Corporate Spending Limits for Political Campaigns, the Health Care Bill Passed, Rep. Rangel Stepping Down As Head of Ways and Means Committee, the national Education Panel Proposing National Math, English Standards for Public Schools, a new Supreme Court Justice, a second Supreme Court Justice nominated and those are just some of the highlights. Just when do things get important enough so that the “transparency” president holds a press conference?

The President has answered questions from the media in interview style, and has taken questions from the media after specific announcements.

tierra,I’m sure he brushes his teeth and is kind to animals. However, nothing you mentioned is a pres conference,at least south of Ontario.Taking questions after specific announcements?About the announcements? The bottom line is that he is afraid of a formal prime-time news conference, otherwise he would have had one, particularly for the reasons mentioned by Peter. Why he is is beyond me-to this point the press hasn’t asked him a tough question since George asked one during one of the debates leading toward the Democrat nomination.
