Doug Suttles told me this morning that he is confident the latest top cap solution will work and that we should “know that over the course of today.”  He also said he expects the “vast majority” of the oil to be contained but would not commit to a number for the amount of oil still escaping as some is needed to keep water out of the system.

Suttles also told me he supports the current “pause” on deep water drilling as new regulations are discussed:

“It’s perfectly logical to put this pause in place but clearly that pause also has a big impact on the people in this region.  There are a lot of jobs at stake so I think what everyone will need to do; the government, the industry , everybody is figure out what changes need to be put in place , get those in place as quickly as possible  and get people back to work.”
