In the East Room of the White House earlier today, President Obama praised Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s “vision for modernization in Russia, especially high-tech innovation as a personal passion of the president,” noting that during the Russian leader’s visit to Silicon Valley this week, “he visited the headquarter of Twitters (sic), where he opened his own account.”
The president joked that he has a twitter account as well http://twitter.com/barackobama “so we may be able to finally throw away those red phones that have been sitting around for so long.”
The @WhiteHouse tweeted a welcome to Medvedev yesterday, writing: “Welcome to @twitter President Medvedev! RT @KremlinRussia_E: Hello everyone! I’m on Twitter, and this is my first tweet.”
It’s unclear why President Obama identified Twitter as “Twitters,” but it may have been the same affliction that caused then-President George W. Bush to refer to “the internets” in a 2004 presidential debate.
