ABC News’ Karen Travers reports:
In an effort to raise awareness for the sacrifice and contributions of the nation’s military families Dr. Jill Biden will make a guest appearance on Lifetime’s military drama, 'Army Wives.'
Dr. Biden taped the episode today in Charleston SC, a spokeswoman said. It will air on August 15.
“We are honored to have Dr. Biden make a special appearance on Army Wives,” said Nancy Dubuc, President and General Manager of Lifetime Networks. “Dr. Biden’s inspiring commitment to military families should be commended, and, as longtime supporters of this cause, Lifetime Networks is proud to be her partner in relaying this message across America.”
Dr. Biden will visit the show’s fictional Fort Marshall, in the episode titled “Mud, Sweat and Tears,” to kick off the post’s annual “Fun Run,” a road race and obstacle course for the local community and families on post that supports a summer camp for the children of military families.
In the episode Dr. Biden will also visit with military spouses to talk about their challenges during deployments. Lifetime said today that many real Army wives will be featured in the episode.
Dr. Biden, whose son Beau deployed to Iraq as a Delaware National Guard officer, has spoken frequently about the need for sustained support for the nation’s military families.
“I look across the room and though I have only met a few of you, I feel as though we are family,” she said last year to a group of military families. “We share the same concerns, the anxieties, the sense of duty, and the pride that comes along with being a military family.”
Dr. Biden also filmed a PSA that will air during the episode encouraging all Americans to get involved and support those families who have a loved one deployed overseas.
