List of Iranian Entities to be Sanctions Obtained, Experts Say It’s a Modest List
ABC News' Kirit Radia reports: ABC News has obtained the list of Iranian individuals and entities to be sanctioned by the United Nations Security Council tomorrow. The lists, contained in a set of annexes agreed upon by council members today, is a measure of the strength of the new punitive measures set out in the resolution’s text, which sanctions Iran’s shipping lines, allows for the inspection of Iranian cargo, strengthens an arms embargo, toughens financial restrictions, and places a new emphasis on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. You can read the full resolution including the new annexes, which start on page 11, HERE. Speaking to reporters in Quito, Ecuador today, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called the new measures “the most significant sanctions that Iran has ever faced.” “The amount of unity that has been engendered by the international community is very significant,” she said. Experts so far are cautious about the resolution’s ability to dramatically alter Iran’s calculus, given how Tehran has responded to sanctions in the past. “At first blush the list looks modest. I would note that there’s only one individual added to the list of individuals under existing sanctions,” said Jackie Shire, a nuclear expert at Institute for Science and International Security, who notes that previous resolutions each added about 10-15 individuals to the sanctions list. The lone individual named in the annex is Javad Rahiqi, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran who has only been in place since last summer. His predecessor had already been named in previous sanctions resolutions. It also names 22 entities tied to Iran’s nuclear or ballistic missile programs. Shire points out that the list includes Malek Ashtar University, which is alleged to have strong ties to Iran’s nuclear R&D program. The annexes also list 15 entities tied to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, which has increased its business and financial interests in recent years. Three entities tied to IRISL, the Iranian government’s official shipping lines, are also sanctioned. Still, the list of sanctions may provide some leads that even outside experts don’t know yet, according to Shire, who’s group ISIS closely tracks Iran’s nuclear program. “The entities named in the annexes also provide a way of peering inside the minds of those in governments who track closely what’s happening with Iran’s nuclear R&D and procurement. We haven’t looked closely yet, but there may be some companies or groups identified here we are unfamiliar with, and with further work can develop a more complete picture of Iran’s work,” she said. The resolution is expected to pass when put to a vote tomorrow morning, despite opposition from non-veto members Lebanon, Brazil, and Turkey. Brazil and Turkey, which recently struck a nuclear fuel swap deal with Iran despite US and international opposition, have been determined to voice their displeasure that the Security Council is going ahead with sanctions despite their diplomatic efforts. The two countries have called meetings of the council over the past two days but have largely failed in efforts to make those meetings public. — Kirit Radia

Romney Makes His Case to Conservatives at CPAC
For 15 months, Obama mouthed “sanctions,” all the while knowing that they were hopeless to change Iran’s race to a nuclear arsenal. Since then, he has destroyed previous relationship the U.S. has had with some 5 or so former allies of America. His attacks on Israel, in particular, have been calculated, public and meant to ingratiate himself to the Arab world–all of whose dictatorial regimes have received virtually NO criticism. Since his ignorant “demand” of Israeli Jews “not to build in Jerusalem” (a racist demand that equals France telling the U.S. that CATHOLICS must not build in Washington, D.C.), he has consistently acted to actually undermine the very security of Israel–NOT to strengthen it. It is UNCONSCIONABLE that this “President” is still sleeping and has essentially given Iran a GREEN light to race to its nuclear arsenal. He refuses military intervention, the only hope of adverting this fantatical regime (which is still responsible for killing Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan through logistical support and weaponry). He has turned its back on Israel, a true and vibrant democracy that faces annihilation from numerous fronts, Iran leading the way. Thus, allies have no reason now to believe the U.S. will back them in a time of crisis. This is worst “President” I can recall occupying the White House at one of the most dangerous times. It will not be long before Islamist attackers utilize radiological weapons on the West, courtesy of Iranian proxies. My question to everyone is…why is he ALLOWING THIS?

Which 5 allies would those be?
The President – and the United States – consistently receive higher approval in polls around the world under this president than the last.

If Iran is sending weapons to the Taliban and training fighters to kill American soldiers, why aren’t we sending some nukes to their illegal plants?

Sanctions can never work, against a country that has something everyone wants…….oil.
You want to hurt Iran, you have to execute a total military blockade.

So we give them more time to finish their weapons research…. this is a choice… but the administration can’t call it “sanctions that will work” —- The Obama administration is obviously OK with Iran getting nuclear weapons!!

So you’re saying this may be just like Bush – North Koreans developed their nuclear weapon for almost 6 years on his watch and then exploded a nuclear weapon in October of 2006?

Most of the comments showes the people who write them don’t have any idea of Iran and Iranians.
The problem is that we don’t put ourselves in others shoes.
Why do we give the right to ourselves to to have and earn everything and band others?
Don’t forget that Iranian were the first nations whoes show their respect to victims of 9/11.
Iran has offered to the world ending build of nuclear weapons for everybody.
But what was the answer? No we have to have it and you should not.
This is not fare and is not logic, if we want peace we should all try for it.
When we talk about Taliban or other criminal organizations the first signs we face is most of them organized or formed by US.
Sanctions can’t be the right move for countries like Iran, we are not Arabs. if you want to see the differences study Iranian people with more accurately. look at Iranian’s living in US,most of them are successful , gentle and of cours clever.
Iranian dose not wish having nuclear or any mass distruction weapons if they would not be under fulmination of others.
What do you expect? you want them to sit and tolerance bullying of others?
Do you really have any evidence showing Iranians involve in any Terror or invasions.
The truth is no, because by culture Iranians always were merciful even to their enemies (opposit of Arabs).
In reference to scriptures of the wholy book Bible you will find Iranians as the only saviour of Jews.
Sanction can only make more hate in the mind of Iranians and make them more determined to find a solution to stand agains unjustice.
Anyway these are the games designed by some authoritarian to earn more power and wealth by fooling all of us.
They are only looking to make a war or voilence just to sell their weapons.
As an Iranian, I wish a world without any weapon ,any violator who forces kind people to be rough only because they want to defend themselves.
please write any comment on my comment just in here as my Email add is a fake one for security reasons.
I would be very happy to answer your question about my country. and sorry for my weak English. wish you all good and happy life in our mother land EARTH
