President Obama Wants to Kick Some Ass
After spending several weeks expressing disdain for pundits' calls for President Obama to show more emotion and outrage about the environmental disaster in the Gulf — White House officials called it "method acting" and "theatrics" — President Obama showed some anger in an interview to air on NBC tomorrow morning.
"I was down there a month ago, before most of these talking heads were even paying attention to the Gulf," the president told Matt Lauer in a clip released this evening. "A month ago I was meeting with fishermen down there, standing in the rain talking about what a potential crisis this could be. And I don't sit around just talking to experts because this is a college seminar, we talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers, so I know whose ass to kick."

Knowing exactly whose ass to kick is very important. They previous president did not, and we kicked Iraq’s ass. That was a very expensive wrong ass to kick.
Just like 911,BP has us over an oil barrel, like the Saudis do who are trying to destroy US from within- via Fox News, that they own, and via terrorists.
So sick of the second guessing, glad we have someone with brains in office.

How much further can he drag down the stature of presidency of the United States? Is he the leader of the free world, or a foul mouthed teenager? After seeing a photo of one of his speechwriters participating in “beer pong”, I already know the answer to my question. BTW Dotcom: The let’s blame-Bush excuse is getting really old.

Perpetual candidate indeed!
I want to know who picked each of the techniques that were tried to stop the oil flow (BP, POTUS, or USCG Admiral), and when the successful method was initially discussed vs. when it attempted…
I keep hearing that this administration was on this since day one, so that would mean the administration is responsible for the decisions that didn’t work out, right?
USCG Admiral says BP has given him everything he asked for without delay, Gibbs & Co. seem intent on portraying something different… Why?

oh boy: a very sad state of affairs, and i do not think that this cheap talk elevates the office or presidency nor inspire confidence in his ability to lead the nation. to “emote” for the sake of showing emotion is a sham and a shame. the republicans would be licking their lips and those of us who voted for this intellectual mild mannered man would be kicking our ***es. his statement is the ultimate acknowledgment of his incompetence. this is a very sad day. cheap dirty politics by the “commander-in-chief”.

Alexander Cockburn says Obama is unable to act presidential — on BP, on Israel…when Obama tries to bark, it comes out as a yip, like a Chihuahua yaping a pit bull
Americans don’t care to have a wimp in the White House. They’ll take almost any outlandish vulgarity from their commander-in-chief and give him a positive job-rating. But wimpishness? No.
Until Obama, the last president to earn wimp ranking was Jimmy Carter whose chances of re-election 30 years ago expired when he gave wimpish speeches about America’s “malaise” and was photographed beating off a rabbit that swam up to his canoe and tried to board it.
Obama isn’t in that sort of trouble yet, but he’s drifting close.
The fates soon sniff out wimps and deal them bad cards. Obama was all set to make a big speech in Chicago on Memorial Day, last Monday. Not only was he rained out but he started quavering to the crowd about the danger of lightning before scuttling off with his Secret Service guards and getting bogged down in a traffic jam.
One of America’s greatest heroes is Ben Franklin — featured on that symbol of optimism, the hundred-dollar bill — who made a sporting effort to fry himself, flying a kite into a thunder cloud.
Wimps can’t emote convincingly because they’re worried about going too far. The White House press corps — until recently without a presidential press conference for 10 months — quizzed Obama’s press secretary about Obama’s evident inability to project anger about BP’s oil spill, now bidding to be the greatest environmental disaster in the nation’s history. Obama’s flak claimed his boss was “enraged” at BP. “Can you describe it?” asked Chip Reid of CBS. “Does he yell and scream? What does he do?” The best Gibbs could offer was evocation of Obama’s “clenched jaw”.
At least half of any US president’s job is play-acting, pretending to be in charge, on behalf of We the People. Most of what actually happens in America is beyond any president’s ability or political inclination to control. The banks run the finances. The oil companies and Israel vie for control of US foreign policy. The arms companies arrange the wars. The insurance companies figure out who should live or die.
Bill Clinton was so servile to big business that he took a phone call from a Florida sugar baron, even though Monica Lewinsky was giving him a blow-job when the call came in. He surely shocked the feisty intern with his obsequious manner as the baron issued some crisp commands to knock off all talk about environmental clean-up of the Everglades. But Clinton could still scream and throw his weight around in the manner expected of a president.
The all-time presidential champ at bullying was Lyndon Johnson who once lifted up the Greek ambassador by his lapels and snarled at him, “F— your Parliament and your Constitution. America is an elephant. Cyprus is a flea. Greece is a flea. If those two fleas continue itching the elephant they may just get whacked by the elephant’s trunk. Whacked good…”
Obama isn’t into lifting up anyone by the lapels. It’s the other way round. Week after week he’s being hoist off the floor of the Oval Office and thrown against the wall, by everyone from Jamie Dimon of JP Morgan to Benjamin Netanyahu. When Obama tries to bark, it comes out as a yip, like a Chihuahua yaping a pit bull.

“Americans don’t care to have a wimp in the White House.”
I thought Republicans gave up on that story line when Obama greatly increased Predator drone assassinations, had the Somali pirate hostage takers shot in the head, increased the number of troops in Afghanistan by over 100%, and opened up a new front in the ‘war’ on terror with cruise missile attacks on camps in Yemen. Not to mention the list of legislative acomplishments he’s pushed through Congress over a Republican Senate minority that is on track to filibuster 200% more than any Democratic minority ever in the history of our nation (of course, they already doubled the old record in 2007-2008 protecting Bush’s agenda).
Good luck pushing that tired old wimp storyline.

Meanwhile, back in reality:
“All skimming equipment we have in the entire Gulf Coast is deployed right now,” Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen,…
“We’ve actually brought in skimmers from outside the country, from Canada and the Netherlands and other places,” Allen said.
That is in addition to the over 500 private vessels (mostly fishing boats) that have been hired and deployed. So are you saying the Coast Guard is lying? Or is it just that for the sake of partisan point scoring you’ll disparage the Coast Guard, and the 40 year veteran in charge (the guy who Bush tapped to clean up after Heckuva Job Brownie) regardless of the extent of their efforts.

You seem to be missing the point, my point is that the stock market is not a sign of anything, its like odds on a bet, and that’s it, the real problem with our economy is that we have an elite group of bankers who print money at will when their buddies bets fail and need a bail out, or a politician needs some money to bomb helpless countries. That is our problem, that we have this hidden tax called inflation which robs us of our wealth, that dollar in your pocket will be worth around 50 cents or less in 10 years, there is no incentive to save cause you got these fat cats stealing its value while it sits in the bank, that is why we have this bull credit economy, people used to save when they needed something but now when you save the mafia called the fed steals it out from underneath you before you use it, want credit? np we will charge you 30% and you can have it now! want to save some money in a savings account np! we will give you 3% interest and then steal 50% of its value so while its sits there, oh yeah thats my kind of economy baby!

What a wild coincidence then that since 1913 we’ve seen the fastest increase in humanity’s quality of life in history. It’s almost like modern economic systems have fostered the greatest explosion of creativity, invention, and material wealth (not green bits of paper, but billions of cars, TVs, cell phones, mattresses, sq ft of homes, air plane seats, computers, hours of video entertainment, etc).

You people are crazy. Also all the productivity, inventivness, and progress is not due to our economic system nor the fed it was from people’s hard work, nothing has changed much since 1913, except that the gap between the rich and poor got much broader, poor people back in 1913, had 100 acres of land and farmed it and owned a 2 story house and barn ect. Take this for example: things were already an incredible mess before Obama even took office and they certainly haven’t gotten worse, so this place you are allegedly standing is obviously totally biased.

“I was down there a month ago, before most of these talking heads were even paying attention to the Gulf,” the president told Matt Lauer
………..
Interesting clip you linked to. Is it just me or is the Day 48, 49, 50 countdown thing getting really old and starting to feel really manufactured and beside the point? I’d personally prefer the news anchors stick to the news with the clips of the President and experts and the guy on site. Forget the countdown drama. The crisis is dramatic on its own terms, as the dramatic scenes from on site demonstrate.
Anyway, I did enjoy brief clip of Matt Lauer’s interview with the President. Good on President Obama for making both points, and good on him and his admin for pressing BP not to limit media access [(AP) - "The federal government generally is not restricting news media access to oil spill disaster areas in the Gulf of Mexico and wants oil giant BP to do likewise, unless there are good security or safety reasons, a Coast Guard admiral said Monday."]
Also, Keith Olbermann and David Corn did a decent fact check on Liz Cheney tonight, for what it’s worth…and please note both the must read at ProPublica: Years of Internal BP Probes Warned That Neglect Could Lead to Accidents, and Lisa Jackson’s piece at HuffPo: “The Murkowski Resolution: A Step Backward for American Clean Energy”

“if you had 1 million in 1980 and left it sitting in the bank the wonderful federal reserve steals 800+k from you and you get to keep 10-20% depending on the scraps of 3% they throw you down from the elite table”
If you had a million dollars in 1980 you are sitting at the elite table.
You had to cherry pick the time frame and even then you got the math wrong because you thought you just had to add the two percentages.
The inflation rate was actually 102% over the years quoted and $108& if you extend it to the year 2000
The rest of your stuff is just sovereign citizen nonsense.

He’s just not cut out to be a leader in a time of crisis. He may be educated but he lacks the instincts and the intelligence to lead in a time of high stress that requires a quick response. He is also one of the most uncaring and non empathetic Presidents of all time. With double digit unemployment he seems not to care about the plight of the underemployed and unemployed. But he can still save his Presidency if he is able to shelve his political ideology and focus on job creation for the next two years. Otherwise he will be recorded as one of the biggest disappointments as President of the US.

seriously, if obama really believes what he says, then it proves that average american has paid more attention to the spill than he has. we’ve been inundated with reports for a month and a half now. does he not realize that millions upon millions of americans have been following this story closely since it happened? i’m in disbelief that even a politician would say something as stupid as his most recent comments. as if we’re all going to collectively forget the primacy this issue has had for the last 50 days or whatever it’s been. this is completely absurd.

You people elected this guy president basically because he could talk. He has perfected the technique of dividing his sentences up into phrases and delivering them in a rhythmic fashion.
He probably perfected the style all those years he listened to Louis Farrakan and “Reverend” Wright.Well, you got what you paid for.His response to any real emergency is just to come out and find out whom to blame. BP is seemingly working hard to stop the spill with apparently no help from our military or our federal government and your president’s response is to do what he does: talk.Where’s that halo? Sarah Palin would have responded imminently better than “The One”. She has actually held an executive position before. Obama has never run ANYTHING, and it shows. His badass act is getting old fast.

“kick some ass” – because that’s all ruthless dictators know how to do. They don’t solve problems or overcome challenges – they blame and blame and blame and crucify anybody around them to intimidate and give themselves more power over the world. Tyrants like Obama are little men who want think they’re too big for their britches. They’re the guys with the jacked up pickup trucks who like abusing cats because it makes them feel bigger. Except sometimes they appear in suitcoats and are driven around in limousines.

wheresmymoney:
Obama is denying help from other nations because he wants to keep this issue alive for as long as possible. He’s doing this to get the exact publicity he’s getting today from this article. Obama is the great divider. By dragging out the oil spill cleanup solution, he’s whipping everybody up into an uproar so that he – and only he – can step in with sweeping legislation and garnish more power.

The thing is that he said he was there a month ago, and yet what has he done since beside letting BP do everything. Where was national guards and government cleanup and disaster response troops then to the gulf of Mexico? Obama doesn’t seem to understand what his role should be in the time of such disaster. First, it’s “he needs to get angry,” then when a comment is taken out of context, it’s “he’s a dictator.” The American public is one “stupid blonde.” A show of hands-who knows how to stop the spill? More research and money has gone into deep drilling technology than into technology to stop a leak if and it occurs as a result of deep drilling. I guess the idiots will be complaining that the guvment is picking on the poor ol’ oil companies if the government requires a basic plan from them. In the meantime, goober, will lose his job and livelyhood and the oil execs will “get their lives back.”

Real Clear Politics has a video of Obama responding to the criticism he’s receiving over his handling of The Leak.
In the video, Obama gets tough and growls, “I don’t sit around just talking to experts because this is a college seminar, we talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers, so I know whose ass to kick.”
Obama is now taking direction from Spike Lee. Obviously, it’s because he hasn’t got a clue about what to do about The Leak himself.
A leader leads. The Leader stands out front, tells us what we need to do and why we need to do it, and then says follow me. If the People believe him or her and the policy, they will freely follow.
Kicking ass is done from the rear. It’s not leadership. It’s intimidation. It’s classic Chicago. That’s not a leader. That’s a gangster.
GTR640 would venture to say that even Ghandi and MLK would be willing to kick Obama’s ass. Because pacifism, at some level, takes courage. But this guy is just a craven politician, and he deserves it!
And, ladyingray says if you were really kickin’ ass, you wouldn’t have to go on morning news shows sayin’ you were!!!
Example: Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama yesterday blamed “irresponsible decisions” by the Bush administration and Wall Street for the country’s economic woes as government officials said the budget deficit would soar to record heights next year.
That’s not a leader.
And this: Obama told the graduates at Kalamazoo High School not to make excuses.
“Don’t make excuses. Take responsibility not just for your successes, but for your failures as well. … It’s the easiest thing in the world to start looking around for someone to blame.”
Obviously, his speech writers forgot who they were writing for — oh, and he needed the teleprompters to talk to high school kids (video).
The kid over Obama’s left shoulder, the one who passes out cold, (photo) (video) has become an Internet sensation.
The Republican Senators whipped up this list of Obama’s better-known excuses right after his speech. It’s easy to do. Everybody’s got a list. Google returns 6,680,000 items after a search for — Obama excuse — no quotes.
Posted by: JMo | June 8, 2010, 3:51 pm 3:51 pm
I find it bizarre that the President’s excuse for not speaking with BP’s CEO is that it is pointless because “he is going to say all the right things.” Sure he will try, but President Obama needs to ask the right questions to get the right answers. Leadership is not about tough talk, its about action. How can he say that the administration is putting pressure on BP when he is not in touch with the CEO? This is not high school where you can just ignore people you don’t like. This is a crisis. The leader of the United States should be on the phone with the leader of BP every night getting an update, taking him to task and, yes, even kicking some ass if he has to.
