The Latest from the down on the Gulf

There’s been plenty of news from here in the Gulf region.  This morning on GMA I spoke to Louisiana Congressman Charlie Melancon who wants to see BP chief Tony Hayward fired:

“…the CEO of BP was talking about how he wants his life back. I'm to the point where I wish the board would call him back…if I performed the way this company has performed, and of course look at the stocks, usually the buck stops there.”

Yesterday I spoke to Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal who still wants barrier islands to be built before hurricane season heats up:

“If we'd gotten approval when we asked for this over 21 days ago, we'd have 10 miles built today. With a hundred miles, we'll protect over 4000 miles of coastline.”

I also spoke to Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser who echoed the Governor’s sentiment:

“I want Admiral Allen to do the right thing and step up to the plate and recommend to the president to authorize every dredge in America to build these barrier islands.”
