From Sunlen Miller:
President Obama and Vice President Biden will meet with BP executives in the Roosevelt Room this morning to discuss the oil spill in the Gulf and efforts going forward. In his address to the nation last night, he briefly mentioned the much-anticipated meeting, the first face-to-face meeting he will have with BP officials since the April 20 oil rig explosion.
“I will meet with the chairman of BP and inform him that he is to set aside whatever resources are required to compensate the workers and business owners who have been harmed as a result of his company’s recklessness. And this fund will not be controlled by BP. In order to ensure that all legitimate claims are paid out in a fair and timely manner, the account must and will be administered by an independent, third party," Obama said.
After the meeting and after receiving another round of briefings, the president will speak to press in the Rose Garden in the early afternoon.
Later in the afternoon, the president will meet with Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown in the Oval Office.
In the evening, the president will address the American Nurses Association House of Delegates at the Washington Hilton.
