An Obama Administration Job for Sen. Specter?
Sources tell ABC News that Sen. Arlen Specter, D-Pennsylvania, has informed the White House that he would like to consider remaining in public service after his Senate term ends at the end of this session, and White House officials are keeping an open mind about possible job openings for him.
Specter, who was defeated in his March primary by Rep. Joe Sestak, D-Pennsylvania, is a close friend of Vice President Joe Biden and someone praised for his leadership in pushing for greater funding for the National Institutes of Health.
Sources said the job discussions are far from anything other than preliminary, and were not part of any "deal" when Specter switched parties and began supporting President Obama's agenda in earnest.
Neither the White House nor Specter had any comment.
Talk of such a job, however, has raised eyebrows among Specter’s Republican Senate colleagues, who are now eyeing his votes with added scrutiny. For instance, Specter seemed not particularly impressed with Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan, whose nomination as solicitor general Specter opposed last year. This week, he announced support for her Supreme Court nomination.
-Jake Tapper
UPDATE:
Would Specter be interested in being a special envoy to help negotiate peace between Israel and Syria?
The Jewish Telegraphic Agency reported this week that he has been exploring such a role with Syrian President Bashar Assad. Specter has long ties to both Syria and Israel.
Before Specter went to Syria, he flew to Israel where, according to Ynet, Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Ayalon said Israel was willing to resume talks with Syria without preconditions. Specter was also asked to convey, according to Ynet, that one goodwill gesture might be for Assad to help broker the release of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.
Some who know Specter say he's eager to go out with a bang — to have a more majestic career-ender — and not to be known in perpetuity as a party switcher, an inquisitor of Anita Hill, or as a leading advocate on the Warren Commission of the single-bullet theory.

Sen. DeMint: GOP Race Could Go Until Convention
Obama Avoids Questions on Contraception Rule
Why, to even consider that Sen. Arlen Spector would compromise his long-held beliefs for short-term personal benefit is simply beyond the pale!
Arlen has been a respected, nay, esteemed, member of the Democratic caucus nearly as long as Sen. Al Franklin!
It’s not like he ever held a press conference to announce that he was changing political party because he was afraid of losing in a primary election…

He really is a classic example of what has gone wrong with our elected employees and public employees in general. Power hungry, soulless individuals with the only principle is doing what is good for him/herself.

I’m still waiting for the kick back news for all those Democrats in the House who voted for Obamacare. The Republican leadership said they would be tracking those who lost their seats and got a cushy payback job as payment. Seeing how tax payer funded abortion looks like a first order of business, I hope they get nailed to the proverbial cross, and this party is kept out of power as it’s ultimate payback.

How many conflict of interest or other “crimes” will the Obama admistration ever be procecuted?
Ron Howard included the Nixon line to Frost,”when the president does something it is NOT illegal”. They made fun of this but now Obama is breaking one law after another. The deals with the auto companies on bankruptcy which by passed the bond holders as “secured” investers, favoring the unions. Ending franchise agreements with long term dealers, which is grand theft at minimum.
Closing the drilling in the gulf because his benefactor G Sorros invested $$ with the Brazil oil company, loaning Brazil billions to explore deep drilling and now that company is trying to get the idled drill rigs. Is conflict of interest no longer a crime?
No wonder Spector the defector is in demand.

If this were a GOP Administration and Specter were a GOP operative the Conservatives would be more silent about this issue than they are about the simple fact that they are now the new beneficiaries of Wall Street benefactors. Let’s face it. Political parties change but those who fund them do not. It’s smoke and mirrors.
The greatest failure of the main stream media and political pundits is their perpetual failure to expose the primal corruption of our entire political process. But, let’s face it, the very corporations who sign their pay checks are the ones making the contributions.

First, Specter was a traitor to his party — which actually was a GOOD thing considering that he was a real piece of work! Second, he’s a traitor to his conscience and his God by giving his stamp of approval to Kagen whom he can’t stand and knows her for the full fledged anti-American communist and infanticide-lover that she is, just so he has a chance at landing an obama administration position that is nothing more than a bribe! Thanks, Tapper, for another nonreport. Tell us more about what sort of Democratic evil the Republicans suspect is going on. Specter was a Dem on a lot of policy before he switched parties. He voted with the Republican bloc on a lot of party-line votes. He would have continued as a moderate if he had not been forced out of the party by an increasingly unbalanced rump of the state Republican Party. Every president has offered commission seats, etc to capable people who have been on their side in key fights.
Visceral hatred of Obama is not proof of a quid pro quo. But thanks again, Tapper, for giving your imprimatur to Republican officials’ slander.

Ain’t no such thing as a “moderate politician”. A “moderate” is a politician who hides behind the votes of other party members, voting “nay” on party-line votes provided his(her) vote isn’t crucial. See also Ben Nelson (D-NE), Blanche Lincoln (D-AK), Olympia Snowe {R-ME), Scott Brown (R-MA).

The only thing I am absolutely sure of: Peace, Honor, Justice, Pride and Satisfaction only come when honest people deal honestly with each other.
Obama, Specter and a host of other politicians will never achieve any of these long term goals because they simply are NOT honest. They are ego driven cut-throats out to feed themselves on the hopes of others.

NOvember! …we MUST break this cycle of ego-mania that has taken control of Washington. NO ONE should ever be allowed to consider politics as a career! …far, far too corrupting.
Service to one’s nation is great, but it must be “service to one’s nation”! Instead we get these wierd sick-o’s who cannot tell the truth even if written on a teleprompter. They will sell themselves for every stroke of ego satisfaction and BELIEVE their own lies and the spin of the press secretaries.
I’m sad for Arlen, Barack, and all the other sick people…. but most sad for our nation and our hope for democracy. It is slipping away into demoCRAZYness.
An 81 year old that HAD a record and was respected for the grit he’d shown fighting cancer, etc. … now sells his vote for the prestigue of a job clearly beyond the best man half his age. It is all ego and self-deception… and crude manipulation by Obama.
Sad, sad, sad end of a once great man.
Save the nation; save good men; require them to serve only ONE term ONLY, and then under the greatest of transparency and public scruitney.
Ceasar had his slave whispering, “you are only human.” We need to hire a civil servant to stand behind each politician at every moment with a recorder and a sign, “you are only human, and I’m recording every minute of that human life to hand over to the special prosecutor the day your term ends!”

The culture of corruption continues, legal bribery at the expense of our trust only that particular account is overdrawn. Leftist stooges applaud their own selling them out for cheap, Conservatives shake their fists only to be sold out themselves soon enough. Our government is corrupt and all the ideologues can do is blame each other — and change nothing.

To the Leftists who say Specter was “forced out” by the GOP, he wasn’t. A month before he switched parties, he said he was happy where he was and wouldn’t switch. What exactly could the GOP have done in a month to make Specter switch parties?
No, it was something else that made him switch, that same something that made him ask the Obama Administration for a job once he leaves the Senate: his quest to remain on the public dole for as long as he could. With Republicans not being happy with him, he switched to the Democrats, who weren’t happy with him either. So, he’s looking for something, anything, that will keep him in the lifestyle to which he has become accustomed.
Even if that role is one where his presence would make NO positive impact whatsoever.

President Obama has already done more than enough for Republicans, with immense damage to Americans who don’t pull in six- and seven-figure incomes. I’m sure that there must be SOME Walmart in Pennsylvania that can use another geriatric greeter — except that that could take a job away from an American who really needs it, having been abandoned.
Posted by: EdA | July 15, 2010, 11:52 pm 11:52 pm
I see a lot of pros here condemning lack of substance and name calling then providing no substance of their own and finishing with name calling. Here’s some substance.
Arlen was told how to vote by a large majority of his constituency. His office stopped answering calls because they did not want to here it. He went on say that his constituency was wrong and that we did not know what we were doing. The constituency was very vocal that he would pay at the polls if he did not carry out their wishes. He made a backdoor deal to keep his seniority if he switched to the Democratic party and supported the agenda. He did this because he knew he was finished for not following the orders of the constituency. By switching he votes the way he wants and escapes the wrath of the constituents. Oh and by the way he’s done this before. He was originally a Democrat
Posted by: robertm | July 15, 2010, 11:52 pm 11:52 pm
Specter is by no means the first, or the last office holder whose vote is up for sale to the highest bidder. Probably the latest example is Scott Brown. After running on the promise (the last he kept) that he would be the 41st vote against ObamaCare, he has now turned full circle to be the 60th vote FOR an equally destructive monstrosity – so-called finance reform. He’s as big a disappointment in 6 months that Specter has been in 30 years. Scott Brown would be doing everyone – Democrats and Republicans – a huge favor by changing parties now.
Posted by: BrooklynMike | July 15, 2010, 11:53 pm 11:53 pm
Specter is the epitome of everything that is wrong with our elected officials and, quite frankly, we have no one to blame but ourselves. As we all just learned, elections have consequences and it’s the apparently deaf, dumb and blind citizens of Philadelphia who kept putting this weak, feckless, spineless guy back into the Senate. If he would only have affected Pennsylvania, it wouldn’t have been so bad. The citizenry there would have to reap what they sowed alone. But, no … they kept voting him in and his votes have affected us all. Even in the end, he can’t walk away with his head held high, because he’s a lowlife. The Obama administration deserves him.

“Specter was smart to leave the Republican party. They have nothing to offer but smear tactics and fear mongering.”
I do hope that the person who penned that remark had their tongue planted firmly in their cheek when they said it!
Fear mongering is a Republican trait?!? Oh dear oh dear! How bass ackwards can you get?!?
Global warming!!!! You need the government to intercede and take care of this or major cities will be under water in a matter of years, etc., etc..
That is only one the most recent scare tactics used by the DEMOCRATS to SCARE people into believing that a BIGGER GOVERNMENT is what is needed to protect us from all these made up Henny-Penny dramas!! If I wanted to devote hours to writing this comment, I could easily do so coming up with fear mongering/scare tactics that are nearly 99% the property of the dems! There are ACTUAL major threats to our safety/survival that ARE real, and THAT is when Republicans speak out — and NEVER for the purpose of expanding government! As for “smear tactics” — once again the dems do by far the most of it. Why? Because it comes easy/natural to people who are morally bankrupt atheists! The Republicans are by no means perfect, and we have bad apples in our barrel, but nowhere near the percentage owned by dems! NOWHERE near!
Before uttering such groundless, fact-less statements — “Specter was smart to leave the Republican party. They have nothing to offer but smear tactics and fear mongering.” PLEASE THINK about what you are saying BEFORE you say it, because if you don’t, you end up shooting yourself in the foot, and lose additional credibility in the process, which the dem party can ill-afford at this time in history. They need all the credibility they can muster if they are to stand a chance of surviving 2010 & 2012 elections! Seriously!

Obama is worse than the worse person ever to be in the white house and he makes Jimmy Carter look like Abraham Lincoln.
Nothing about this guy surprises me, nothing, he is the absolute worst ever!!!

Buck Turdson —- No backup? Every day Obama is in office there’s another scandalous episode. When are you going to wake up from your dream of “hope and change?” There’s plenty of evidence that Obama is a failure, more that he’s a crook. But we have a corrupt system, Mr. Turdson, and he will never have to face the trial he deserves. Evidence? Look at what he’s done so far! He’s bankrupted the country and trashed the constitution. Impeachment is not far off, then you’ll get your precious evidence!

Joebic said it all, with one possible addition. Once we clean house/senate and replace the bloated bigwigs with (hopefully) responsible REPRESENTATIVES, we impose term limits on both houses limiting them to 2 terms only. We found that this works well in most states governors office and the POTUS position. The position of Congressman was not originally intended to be a career move.

We have two votes in this battle…1) In November, your vote and the vote of everyone you can talk with. 2) Your dollars given to every truly conservative candidate running against a liberal. There are no local House or Senate races…Every House and Senate Vote is a national vote. They effect you. They hit your pocketbook, they hit your freedoms and they put your very job and family at risk.

Want to blame someone for the demise of the great Nation known as America? Check the mirror. When the “Greatest Generation” found out they could vote themselves whatever they wanted without having to worry about how it was going to be paid for, then passed that legacy down to the Baby Boomers, it was the beginning of the end. Now we’re seeing the end results of that mental defect known as Liberalism.
When America’s death certificate is signed in the annals of History, the line entitled “Cause of Death” will be simply notated: Liberalism…

I had such a wonderful laugh to start the morning when I read the lib. post, that with Obama, you had to accept that things would get worse before they would get better.
Does that mean the 12% unemployment we’re going to have in 2011 is getting better or getting worse?
Does this new Frank-Dodd disaster bill mean more people will go out of business or just many people will go out of business?
If the getting worse standard were to apply to Bush, then his was the best presidency ever.
After all, he gave the US a 4.36 unemployment rate, 15000 DOW, freedom and democracy to two Middle Eastern countries, and greater oil exploration domestically. When things got worse, you mean they really got better?
Liberals are turning into true morons. Instead of just fake ones.

But alas (!) we are more civilized nowadays and we allow these slimeballs to hang around in government until their pockets are full, and they retire when they’re damned good and ready. 1. They enjoy the salary, perks and publicity and power of a high powered job trying to run other people slives.
2. They could never get a decent job outside the govt.
Never, ever vote for anybody that talks about their commitment to public service. They are a power hungry liberal that will stick their nose into everybody’s business and happily micromanage their lives for them.

Arlen Specter is a slime ball that is untrustworthy but then consider the people who vote for him all these years. Pennsylvania. They gave Murtha who called our brave young men and women baby killers. Or killers of innocent people. Same communist play (used by riot organizers to stir up the masses) used during the Vietnam era protests. Remember Sen Kerry testified back then (with Sen Kennedy encouraging him at his side) we were all baby killers. Murtha was a traitor (anyone that wants to use Murtha’s military record give me a break, Look up Benedict Arnold) and thus the people of Pennsylvania they liked Murtha birds of a feather flock together.

Wait a minute . . . Let’s take time to really look at something that hasn’t been talked about. Spector has served, good or bad, in office for ?? yrs? And even after being voted OUT of his primary, at 81 he’s still eligible to be looked at for another job. . .
At 61 yrs of age, my husband, state licensed plumber, BA Business Degree, Certified HVAC (and I could go on and many others can say the same)– can’t get so much as a “look” because of his age! He’s got life experience but outside of obamaland (and D.C. for that matter), the older you are the less they want you. Am I the only one to feel ripped? Am I the only one to see a HUGE problem? Obama wants US outside of obamaland — DEAD – DONE – GONE! Jobs are hard enough to get for the younger people but next to impossible for the still very vibrant older people. Yet D.C. can find a place for a washed-up 81 yr.old, funded by the taxpayers?
What would D.C. look like if we applied those same standards to the likes of all those in the 60+ age bracket? November could be the beginning of some serious changes. Mark your calendars — DON’T FORGET!

I often wonder where the phrase “Public Service” came from. With the politicians we have today, there is definately no service to the public. Maybe it came from the saying the bull serviced the cow, only in this case substitute taxpayer for cow.

What has this man done to himself? A one time defender of the constitution and a person that voted his conscience traded it all in for what a job he doesn’t need. It’s a sad thing to have to end a career with most people despising you after spending so much time trying to do the right thing.
He of course brought it on himself and I feel sorry not for him but for his family

If Senator Specter were only remembered for the accurate single-bullet theory, it would justify his entire career. What a disgrace that there was a member of the House who led a silly investigation that tried to undermine the correct laying of blame solely on Oswald. His name would properly live in infamy, except that appropriately and justly virtually no one, including me, remembers his name.

Like so many in Washington he so desperately wants to make his mark and be remembered in history. After he is gone, like most of us, in time he will be forgotten.

As for politicians: there are “socalled” Democrats, Republicans, Conservatives and Liberals, and there are members of the tribe and those that do their bidding.
Did anyone really think Specter would not endorse Kagan?? And do we need another peace negotiator like Dennis Roth in the Middle East, to obfuscate and procrastinate while Israel grabs more land and causes more resentment of the USA?

He is a perfect fit for the Obama administration. He has no spin, will say and do anything to get ahead, only knows how to colloct a pay check from the tax payers and is completly unashamed to pimp himself in the open. Besides he couldn’t get hired by Wal-Mart to be a greeter.

Remember that Spector was the “inventor” of the “magic bullet theory.”
That theory offered that a single bullet, whose shape and condition were nearly pristine, hit John Connally and then hit JFK. Despite the fact that bullet fragments (plus the bullet) added up to more than the weight of the bullet to start with, ignoring that the bullet smashed a rib and an arm bone, Spector asserted the undamaged bullet hit both men.
And without the “magic bullet” theory even the Warren Commission admitted its case for a lone gunman would fall apart.
The soul selling started early.
