Coming up on ‘This Week’… Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and Gov. Chris Christie
With the "unusually uncertain" economic climate threatening the recovery, "This Week" anchor Jake Tapper sits down with Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner to discuss the road ahead for the U.S. economy. Will the massive new financial regulation law put more uncertainty into the markets? Will letting the Bush tax cuts expire for the wealthiest Americans hurt economic growth? And what does the administration have planned to help jobs return?
Then, he's a rising star in the GOP whose upset victory in a blue state shocked the political world. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie comes to "This Week" for an exclusive interview – and his first appearance on a Sunday show. As his state faces significant budget challenges, Christie has slashed spending and taken on powerful unions. Can his tough-talking style and fiscal conservatism propel him to the national stage? Gov. Chris Christie, only on "This Week."
Plus our roundtable with Sam Donaldson, Cokie Roberts, Democratic Strategist Donna Brazile and Fox News Contributor Stephen Hayes of the Weekly Standard will look at the politics of race and the media fallout after the wrongful firing of Agriculture Department Shirley Sherrod. And New York Congressman Charlie Rangel faces ethics charges – will the 20-term lawmaker survive? That and all the week's politics Sunday on "This Week."
You won't want to miss it.

Is Congress Sounding Dumber?
I don’t know where you got the idea that Christie is a fiscal conservative. Certainly not from anywhere inside NJ>

I like the combination, two men who fearlessly take on herculean tasks.. with a degree of patience and calm exterior. These guys have ice water in their veins.

If Obama, Holder, and the Dems would put half as much effort into fighting the terrorists and illegal immigrants as they do attacking the State of Arizona, then maybe they’d finish the damn fence and stop playing politics.
But I won’t hold my breath. After all, Obama bows to our enemies and shuns our allies. It falls perfectly in line with his creed of attacking his own citizens.
If it’s not with a law suit, it’s with destroying our liberties and freedoms with his government by fiat.
Obama just doesn’t like people to point out he doesn’t know what he is doing — due to lack of experience. Obama is too stuck on campaigning. He needs to start doing his job.

I’ve lived in NJ most of my life and Christie is the BEST thing to EVER happen to us….we LOVE him.
Finally, a Governor that will break the grip of unions on our state budget. The citizens stand with him..
I’ll be tuning in…

The elite, monied classes thought that Christie’s attack on teachers, firefighters, police and sanitation workers would rally people to his side. Instead, his diaapproval rating soared. It turns out that people like teachers and police, and didn’t want him to atteck the unions, they wanted him to attack “the fat” in the budget, and giveaways to the rich.

He is taking on the unions and all of their pampered constituents and dragging them into the realm of reality… where the rest of us live!! Yes, they will have to contribute more than pennies to their pensions and pay more for healthcare..No they can’t retire at 55!!..and yes, if they stink at their jobs..they may be fired…

American citizen..remember..This administration’s goal is to “win the hearts and minds” of foreigners who hate America..as for Americans, they don’t care about our hearts or minds…their goal is to control every aspect of our lives.

Ah, yes. Arrogance and hurting the poor while protecting the rich is so cool. As are power grabs, potential new bureaucracies to protect an obsolete industry while cutting essential services, and putting special education kids at risk. Very cool. Just like ripping on police officers and firefighters, and pretending they’re not hard working people living right in the middle of reality like the rest of “us.”

It always cracks me up to hear rich people rail against “pampered union workers”. Most workers would join a union if they could, but tens of thousands of workers are fired every year for legally protected union activity.
Working people haven’t had an increase in real wages since the 1970′s. Rather than race to the bottom, its high time we get all workers organized. Inequality led to the current financial disaster, and is the underlying weakness in the US economy.
Rich people don’t like unions and not just because unions stop them from taking every cent of workers produce, but also because they stop employers from arbitrary and capricious behavior like discrimination based on sex and race.
Christie is a political hack, who was appointed by an overly politicized and partisan administration. Christie is also a multimillionaire – and that is who he represents.

Politically and practically cost cutting alone cannot solve the deficit problem, which means the government is going to have raise taxes and let bush tax cuts expire.

All Gov. Christie is trying to do is break the middle class in NJ. He cuts middle class salaries but cuts taxes for people who make over a million dollars per year.
