While you have car rental companies in your sights, look at their tires. And look at the maintenance records regards tires. PLEASE! The maintenance program calls for visual inspection of the tires with every oil change, every 3000 miles.
I rented a car for a 2009 Mother’s Day trip from Houston to Whitesboro, taking my mother to see her dying brother.
The car we rented on that Mother’s Day weekend had about 48000 miles, or 16 oil changes. Sixteen times the tires should have been visually inspected for wear and replaced for wear. Three of the four tires on the ground were worn out, with little to no tread in spots, and in danger of blowing out. And the spare was also worn out. I learned this when on the return trip we had a flat. I HAVE DIGITAL PICTURES!
I AM A TEST AND EVALUATION TECHNOLOGIST BY TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE FOR MAJOR OIL AND GAS EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURERS. I KNOW WORN ELASTOMERS (RUBBER) WHEN I SEE THEM.
In the last year I have been unable to get anyone to follow up on this travesty.
Recall the lives lost when Firestone tires failed on Texas highway I-45 near Huntsville, TX years ago. This is the same threat of tragedy.
The threat is multiplied by who knows how many cases since it is not limited to the production of one tire manufacturer, but extends to the thousands of cars all the rental companies are sending out daily.
I have suggested visual audits of the tires and been ignored. I have suggested audits of maintenance records and been ignored.
My photos show not marginal wear, but extreme wear.
Either the maintenance program is not being done or the wear is being ignored, depraved indifference.
It is only a matter of time until tragedy strikes, again. I have yelled and been ignored. I hope someone with a louder voice will shout out and be heard and effect change.
You have that voice and forum. You will save lives.

I was pleasantly surprised to see all the comments asking for Real must reads. Anyone remember when Obama said due to his muslim faith and steffi corrected him and said “You mean your Christian Faith?” Where are the real stories George? How about killing those little cracker babies, and Holder and the new black panthers? Strap some on and cover some real stories. You guys are going to be livid when this massive govt power grab swings to the right. Don’t think it can’t happen. Anyone remember Eugene “Bull” Conner and his dogs, clubs and firehoses on King’s marchers? I do. Democrats, George Wallace? democrat. Robert KKK Byrd. DEM. You can run, but you can’t hide georgie boy. They will try to censor the internet, but the truth will find a way out. You guys don’t have a monopoly on the news we get anymore, and you are losing market because the people demand the truth. How about a story on NASA? On the truth about Az immigration? The truth about why you will not cover this gang of power hungry progressives? Anything, the people are hungry for the TRUTH>

It’s a compliment to your reporting, that all of these rabid pubicans read your collum. If I happen onto a What-a-Rush radio segment, I can’t listen for more than a few minutes. That poor drug addled fool needs help that he’ll never get. Keep up with the truth, George. It will eventially set us free.

Thanks to ‘jamescbuilder’ for saving me some typing. I would also like to say how disappointed I am in Mr. S.
There was never any secret about his political leanings but…I always enjoyed This Week when he was hosting. In the world of the liberal alphabet media, he set a pretty good example of how to straddle the line and never appear too one-sided. Jake Tapper does a pretty good job of that too, although he deserves the same criticism as GS on this DOJ story…oh wait…it can’t be a story, right? Or both of them would have mentioned it, right?
I mean…Lindsay Lohan and Lady Gaga…now THOSE are stories! And ‘can the Gulf leak be capped by ____? (you pick the date). Those are important questions.
The WSJ is asking less glamorous questions like…Is the US DOJ involved in a ‘massive coverup’? Perhaps someone should ask if there’s some ‘obstruction of justice’ thrown in the mix..oh yeah..check that…we’re talking about THE ‘JUSTICE’ DEPARTMENT so…they wouldn’t ‘obstruct’ themselves, right?

George, you said you were going to bring more of an ‘edge’ to the news on GMA (i guess it may depend on what your definition of the word ‘news’ is). I used to think you were a ‘journalist’ and not just a ‘yes boy’ for any POTUS…
I guess it depends on what my definition of ‘journalist’ was. Like I said, I’m very disappointed. I wrote about this story myself over a week ago and crickets from you guys. Shameful.
And like people above have ‘reported’ …this story definitely has legs. It always has. It’s not about the NBPP, it’s about the culture of corruption in this administration. Sticking your heads IN THE SAND (self censored) won’t make it go away…no matter how hard you wish it.
You all lament the exodus of viewers from your network as you ignore what’s happening right under your noses…and simply because of your own personal politics. It’s sad on many levels.
Funny thing is, your credibility is being driven into the ground by the Obama administration who knows they can count on you to religiously broadcast the WH talking points. By the time you realize how irrelevant you have become there will be nothing left of your reputation to salvage.
Like I said, I expected better and it’s a shame but OH WELL… IT’S TOO LATE NOW. Just like this DOJ whistle-blower story that you would have jumped all over if the (D)’s and (R)’s were swapped…if you report on it now you will just look like even more of a joke (and hypocrite) than you have already proven yourself to be.
