White House on the 6 Month Anniversary of the Haiti Earthquake: “We Have More Work to Do”

From Sunlen Miller

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said today that the six month anniversary of the earthquake in Haiti reminds everyone that “we have a lot of work to do.”

“It reminds us all that we have work to do in responding not simply to the humanitarian crisis that we see continuing today, but the long-term efforts to rebuild Haiti and make it a stronger nation,” Gibbs said, “It reminds us we have work to do. That work is ongoing.  Help is ongoing.  And we will seek to — to continue doing that.”

Gibbs said they are working with Capitol Hill to try to get the supplemental bill through to hopefully make some progress on getting US aid into the region.

While there is no visit planned for President Obama to visit the region anytime soon, Mr. Obama receives regular updates on the progress in the region.

President Obama today met with President Leonel Fernandez of the Dominican Republic and thanked the president for his role responding to the earthquake in Haiti six months ago today.

“I think that the Dominican Republic's role, President Fernandez’s role in particular, in helping to facilitate a rapid response was extraordinarily important,” President Obama said from the Oval Office, “It saved lives.  And it continues as we look at how we can reconstruct and rebuild in Haiti in a way that is good not only for the people of Haiti but also good for the region as a whole.”

The last time I checked Haiti was not part of the USA. They are a failed state and currently not our problem. Let the un handle them with some of the money we gave them.

“We Have More Work to Do”

They have more work to do? Obama hasn’t done what he promised 6 months ago. It looked good at the time but the $check$ hasn’t been cut yet.
Maybe it’s a test run for Michelle’s next approach to obesity; starvation. If they tried it for a few days they’d either get off their asses and do something themselves or not be so quick to jump in front of a TV camera and try to outpledge the world.

We as a nation and individuals have sent billions in aid to Haiti. What in the heck has it all been spent on?? Luxury accommodations for the UN???!! Maybe someone with brains and common sense needs to take control of the situation. And all the unemployed Haitain youth need to go to work cleaning up their own country.

There’s no such thing as a 6 month “anniversary”.

@MONGREL
Exactly. Thank you!
Anniversary is a yearly occurrence.
