White House Says Intel/Law Enforcement Made Decision About ‘Spy Swap’

Asked what President Obama knew about the spy swap, a senior administration official tonight said that "the president was kept fully informed of developments and approved the recommendations of his national security team on how the matter should be handled."

On the PBS NewsHour this evening, White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel elaborated, saying, "It was not the decision of the president. It was the decision, obviously, of the law enforcement community and the intelligence community."

Did the president sign off on it? Jim Lehrer asked.

"The president was briefed about it," Emanuel said. "These type of things are done by the law enforcement community and intelligence community. He was briefed about it, given the information about it. But the actions were taken by the law enforcement community. … The president was fully informed of what was going on along the way."

Emanuel said that a) "they pled guilty … b) they are deported, c) we also, as you know, there are four people now coming … to the United States."

He added, "There is no doubt it's a good thing because we've uncovered individuals here who, although they didn't plead to being spies, were clearly caught in the business of spying. And it sends a clear signal to not only Russia but other countries that will attempt this that we are on to them."

“It was not the decision of the president. It was the decision, obviously, of the law enforcement community and the intelligence community.”
This about sums up Obama in one nice statement. Ultimately the decision lies with him, but he takes no responsibility for it. This is just laying the groundword in case something goes wrong. Of course if this turns out to be an amazing course of events for the U.S. I can only imagine how the storyline will change about the One’s involvement.
This guy is way out of his league.

At this point I have trouble believing anything this administration says about anything. Who knows what this was all about. But be sure, Obama is surely pulling the strings.

Maybe the spies were just auditioning for a TV reality show.

There’s no point in asking 0bama for an opinion on this because he wouldn’t have a clue.
So they just tell him what they will do, he nods his head and mumbles “OK by me”, and everyone goes their merry way.

Biden made a crack on Jay Leno when he said that he “thought the Russians would take Rush Limbaugh”. The Democrats are such thug, controlling, free speech killers. Can you imagine in 2006 Bush going on Jay Leno and saying that about Michael Moore. The media and the entire liberal entourage would unforgivingly assault him as an affront against free speech in our country.
Would ABC News like to question Biden on the Obama administration’s preoccupation with Limbaugh, Glen Beck, and Sean Hannity and the administration’s resistance to free speech and villifying of contrary opinions in our country?
. . . crickets chirping . . .
