Details About President Obama’s Iraq Address Next Week
As US combat troops prepare to leave Iraq and the mission in Iraq changes, President Obama is preparing a speech to give to the nation. The tentative date for the speech is August 31, the withdrawal deadline for US combat troops. The speech is being written by National Security Staff official Ben Rhodes and the president. According to a senior White House official the speech will try to make these three points: 1) Expressing gratitude to US forces — military and civilian — who worked so hard and sacrificed so much; 2) Pointing out that the president is keeping a promise he made on the campaign trail for the respoinsible withdrawal of US troops (all troops are scheduled to leave by the end of 2011, per the Status Of Forces Agreement with the Iraqi government); 3) Putting the war in Iraq in the larger context of US national security challenges and the need to focus on larger threats — such as al Qaeda. This final message, along with the president underlining that the US commitment to Iraq remains in place, will be part of an overall message that hard work remains on national security issues — that mission is not "accomplished." President Obama is not expected to address the fact that he opposed the surge of troops in Iraq in 2007. Defense Secretary Bob Gates and Joint Chiefs Chairman Admiral Mike Mullen told me last year that the surge created the conditions allowing the US to withdraw combat troops today. - Jake Tapper

Obama Avoids Questions on Contraception Rule
“President Obama is not expected to address the fact that he opposed the surge of troops in Iraq in 2007.”
Of course not. Pretty sure you won’t be seeing “The War Is Lost” poster boy Harry Reid boasting about his part in the conclusion anytime soon either.

He wont blame Bush for this either but it was the exact agreement that President Bush had put forth .So put your spin on that.

SHOULD OBAMA ADDRESS THE FACT THAT BUSH IS A WAR CRIMINAL SINCE WE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN IN IRAQ IN THE FIRST PLACE.
LETS TALK ABOUT THEM FACTS!

Blame Bush all you want, but it takes an act of congress to go to war, not the hand waving of the President.
I wish more Americans were educated.

This is the only thing Obama has done right.
He continued Bush’s policy in Iraq.
Obama should give a weekly address to the nation with updates titled “Bush Was Right.”

It is not possible that there are still units left in Iraq. Obama’s network, MSNBC, reported that the last American convoy of troops has left Iraq. MSNBC is nothing but a joke. Scarborogh and that dim blond along with the other apologists need to go.

Kay —- Actually, Bush would have been out by now and left even less than the 50000 that Obama left there. Oh, here’s another fact you can’t spin, Obama is doubling privately contracted security as the troops move out. So, are we really withdrawing or fighting a contract war?

Obama opposed the surge and said we are bombing villages killing women and children, Reid said the war is lost, Durbin likened our troops to nazis and Pol Pot, Kerry said we are terrorizing(terrorists) people in the dead of night. Clinton called Gen Petraeus a liar in front of the nation. Most all Democrats in Congress voted for the Use of Force Resolution for Iraq until they thought they could exploit it for votes then they backstabbed our military. Neither Jake Tapper or any other ABC-NBC-CBS-CNN-PTV reporters will ask genuine tough questions of Barak Obama, he is still their man.

He’ll say, “If you had listened to me, Saddam wwould still be in power shooting at our troops maintaining the no-fly zones, he’d still be paying bonuses to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers, threatening Kuwait and the Gulf, sheltering terrorists such as Zarqawi and perhaps re-starting his WMD programs. If you had listened to me, there would have been no surge, Iraq would be in the chaos of 2007 and the US would not have been successful.”

Posted by: Rick | August 23, 2010, 9:33 am 9:33 am
Well well well. Platitudes for the fly over kids doing the dirty work in two increasingly sensless wars. Good start.
Next, the bulk of the speech should be made up of self serving defensive remarks about keeping promises, even though Americans remain over there in large numbers under different guises.
Finally, admitting Bush may have been correct, but not admitting it even though Barry would be admitting it by admitting the only value to the war is keeping al-Qaeda busy somewhere else than here.
The more I think about, I realize my distaste for this President and for his predecessor.

Bush is a war criminal then perhaps you wouldn’t mind prosecuting every member of Democrat controlled Congress that has been in collusion since its inception including voting for the action to begin with? Oh that includes the dope in the whitehouse who alsso did nothing to end it while he voted “present”… you are clueless

History will look back at the Obama presidency as a grand failure of policies across the board: economic, foreign, militarily incompetent, corrupt, and a shining example of the need for checks and balances. The unholy trio of Obama, Pelosi and Reid were only counterbalanced by the Supreme Court. Emotion and stupidity in the 2008 election were corrected in the 2010 and 2012 elections sealing the fate of liberal policies for decades to come as a “been there, done that, no thanks” sidenote.

Combat in Iraq is over, says Obama, then why do we have a family member in a US combat division shipping out there in September Mr Tapper, go ahead and ask your buddy Obama? Obama is playing his Saul Alinski word games, change the name of something and then say see it’s different.

I received an email from a friend who’s son is in Iraq he wrote –As of September 1st all Brigade Combat Teams in Iraq will be redesignated as Advisory and Assist Brigades, and all brigades that are set to deploy after 1 September are doing so under the same banner. The truth is that Americans are still actively engaged in combat in Iraq and will be for some time. Here’s an interesting question: Since combat is technically over at the end of this month, will the remaining 50,000 troops still be receiving combat pay?

This withdrawal of American troops from Iraq was negotiated during the Bush Administration and codified on October 16, 2008 under Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and the Iraqi Parliament.(SOFA)
Will our “take all the credit President” share the podium with George W. Bush? Will Obama move over (give “it’s all George Bush’s fault” mantra a rest for a day)and welcome remarks from the former President…George W. Bush? Who remembers President Reagan’s gracious invitation to Jimmy Carter to fly to Weisbaden, West Germany, to welcome the newly freed hostages?

So he’s gonna go on TV and tell us all that he’s keeping to the timetable that the Bush Administration agreed to back in 2007? Or is he going to take complete credit for ending the war and not mention Bush at all except to trash him again? I choose the latter…

The one needs to be careful with this speech. His prior positions on this war, his current poor standing with the American public and his lecturing speech style could really send his numbers further down the toilet.
On the other hand, if he could be honest and address his former positions, give credit to GWB and explain how his “campaign promise” to end combat in Iraq was not really his and that his predecessor deserves most of the credit then I think he could stop the plummeting approval numbers.
Of course I highly doubt of man with his ego surrounded by his out-of-touch handlers could possibly allow him to say anything remotely kind about the man he blames for all his poor policies.

That George Bush did a phenomenal job as commander in chief of this war.
That the credit goes to Bush, The Soldiers and Petraeus, all of whom “I” Obama regretly disparaged in error.
I, Obama, was wrong on the war, in criticizing Bush, habitually wrong on the surge, wrong in calling our soliders terrorists and wrong on my crticism of General Petraeus.
If this man takes one miniscule of credit for the war’s success, it will be among the most shameful speech to come out of the Oval office
Obama needs to admit he was an impediment to the success, if he falls short of that admission than he will show he continues to be a total sham.

The real question is how he’ll recant everything he’s going to say in this stupid speech when the situation in Iraq explodes again because he decided to keep ONE of his campaign promises.
Our departure from Iraq will condemn that country to chaos as Iran steps in to take it. Way to go, Barry….another inexperienced move by a guy who not only never served in the military, but hates the military because it’s filled with real men and women.

Instead of a useless speech, when is this coward going to have a press conference to address the contradictions mentioned on this blog?Obviously the “end” of the combat mission is exaggerated and perhaps even a lie.Even our lapdog press has to have some questions about this McNamaraesque pronouncement;meanwhile Obama’s aimless Afghan policy has killed another four Americans this last weekend.

Obama will claim credit for the Iraq War. Obama was against it as a U.S. Senator and he was against it was a Presidential candidate. Obama also said of the Afgan War in August 2007 – “US Planes only fly over Afganistan and drop bombs killing innocent women and children”. Obama (the closet Muslim) will never apologize to the US Armed Forces for his comments agaisnt them; which is why the US Armed Forces “detest” Obama, he has zero support. Obama is a constant liar to Non-Muslims; the American people.

Why won’t he hold a real Press Conference don’t those mothers now losing sons in Afghanistan deserve to hear Obama’s plans in his own voice and not hiding behind a telepromter.

Watching from far afield, I am astonished by the lack of knowledge of the world demonstrated by most Americans. To call anything done by Obama or the Democrats communist or socialist is a joke. By the standards of virtually every other developed country in the world, the U.S. is still free enterprise dominant and their fear of their own governement borders on paranoia. I suggest you travel beyond your own borders and get a sense of what a totalitarian or communist society is like before you throw those terms around.

In addition to traveling to places which are socialist or comunist or facist, why not travel to some countries that are truly free – Canada for example. It is 1/10 the size of the U.S. in terms of population, size of the economy etc. It has universal health care. No one goes bankrupt because of health care costs. It has slightly higher taxes although there is no tax on a capital gain on our homes, no estate tax, no tax on lottery winnings etc. And our national debt is about 1/25th the size of the U.S. debt. In other words on a per capita basis the U.S. debt is almost 2.5 times Canada’s. And I beleieve you would be hard pressed to find a Candian who would agree that we are less “free” than Americans.
But I hasten to add that we feel very close to our southern neighbours and generally agree about most international issues. We shared your pain of 9/11 and have had combat troops in Afghanistan since 2002. We follow U.S. news as much as we follow our own. Where we disagree, we manage to do agreeably.

Skip -if you can’t see that Obama and the Dems are failures than it is hopeless. 9.5% unemployment using the big govt trickle down process and a debt to GDP ratio of 90% by 2020 according to the CBO, bailouts for the uaw, state and teachers unions to buy their vote. The last teacher bailout of 26billion took money from the food stamp program and some of it will end up as teacher union donations to Democrats for their campaigns. THat is appalling but I’m sure the poor food stamp recipient would rather the money go to a Democrat Congressmen for their re-election.

In addition to his daily lies, arrogance and narcissism, let’s review America under a fool named Obama:
–At 9.5%, the unemployment rate is 1.8 percentage points higher today than when Obama took office.
–There are 3.3 million fewer U.S. jobs than there were when Obama took office in January 2009.
–The U.S. economy has lost jobs in 12 of the 18 months he has been office, including the last two months.
–In early August of last year, Obama declared, thanks to his policies, the U.S. economy was “pointed in the right direction.” Since then, we have lost jobs in six of the 12 months for a net decline of 52,000 jobs. The 9.4% unemployment rate when he made this statement climbed to 10.1% and has since declined to 9.5%, still higher than it was last August.
–Obama signed into law a whopping $862 billion stimulus law to pay back union cronies and Democratic pals, and two health laws that will create $788 billion of new entitlements over the next decade. Combine these with countless other spending bills, several of which were labeled as emergencies and therefore not paid for, and the U.S. government is $2.5 trillion more in debt today than on the day Obama took office.
November and 2012 can’t come soon enough to rid ourselves of this complete hack Obama and his merry band of America-hating, socialist Democrats.

“Let me be perfectly clear, I inherited this mess from George Bush, and despite the ditch that the Republicans left me in I was able to drive us on over the cliff.”
“I am taking full responsibility for the winning of this war, and assure you that my seemingly weak stance with all the Muslim countries has nothing at all to do with my weak support of Israel. If you have any problems, now that Bush is gone, remember the Republican Tea Party racists who wonder where my birth certificate is and why I have spent millions keeping it hidden.” I will be following this speech up with another speech for you as soon as I come back from my 7th vacation.”

CND FOX —– We wasted over $1 trillion on Insurance Reform and unfortunately our problems are health care costs and access to health care. Unfortunately, to date, this means those of us paying for health care are paying more with fewer choices. While I have no problem with eliminating pre-existing conditions, our health care costs are still double any other country. That rising cost is going to continue to raise insurance rates.

Obama will probably blame the massive deficit on Bush based on our involvement in the Iraq war. He is without excuse since every man woman and child is $40,000 in debt because of all the entitlem, ent programs and so-called stimulus packages to union firms that are on the take with this administration.

Oh please, what is he going to say…the troops coming home now because all HIS WORK…please go take a long vacaction with Michelle Antionette…is he now going to take Credit for the troops’ work or the success of the surge? The only President qualifies to say anything wrt the troops leaving Iraq is Prez GW Bush…Obama never supports the surge, he never supports what these men are doing over there, so please, save us another ‘let me be clear’ and ‘let me take the credit’ moment…especially he is going to blame Bush again on the 5th anniversary of Katrina…I have never despise a sitting Prez as much as I am right now…everytime this guy opens his mouth it is always – America’s fault, Bush’s fault, inherited this, inherited that…ENOUGH ALREADY…Remember November is coming, time to goto the polls and cut off all his support in congress.

Obama can’t take ANY credit for ending the war in Iraq. The Iraqi government gave a deadline for the withdrawal of American military forces, and Bush, not Obama, agreed to that deadline.
For Obama to pretend that he had anything to do with this is outlandish. Does this man, or any of the people working with him, even know the meaning of words like honesty, truth, honor, integrity? He is a manufactured celebrity AND president, and as fake as Lady Gaga. The difference is, SHE has tons of talent, and will be remembered for it. He’ll be a laughingstock.
I’m sick of listening to him. Someone should tell him to shut up.

What is he to say? Is he going to take credit for the war effort? He did oppose the surge that finally put Iraq into some degree of stability. We have more people killed here in the US every day than is killed in Iraq at this time. Auto accidents account for more deaths than are occuring in Iraq. No! It would be nice to give Bush some credit for the surge, but it is hard to ignore the fact that it took four years of war for the Bush administration to come up with a winning strategy for a war that was going to take months and not years. It was a long expensive war that was never declared. How many of you would have voted to spend this much money and this many deaths and injuries for our American military to potentially estabish a democracy in the middle east?

You speak of stats and when you are called out, you produce nothing. Here’s a concept for you, when this President signs something he says is for the good of us, why does it cost us more money? That’s a concept we will all remember at the polls. No matter the party. You, on the other hand, will vote present like a good little sheep. You are the one who needs to wake up.

Yowza. There’s a lot of noise on the comments thread in regards to a speech that hasn’t even been given yet.
Much of it reminds me of a song on Sheryl Crow’s new album, which was probably written with Sarah Palin in mind given the line about reloading, and the original version, but still.
Not the greatest song she’s ever written, but a few of the lyrics come to mind:
Ignorance is patriotic
Reasons are so idiotic
The winds of change just keep on blowing
This is America, you’d never know it
So much noise so much chatter
Does the truth even matter?

However, I disagree a little on your last statement. I would word it as “The only wasted vote is one that goes to the incumbent.” Voters need to start enforcing term limits. It is only when we get most of the current leadership in both parties out of office will we have a chance for the two parties to pay attention to the voters and not the big shots with money.

The President loves to make speeches.
He loves to tell the people of the US how much he has done for us in the past 18 months. I see a rise in unemployment, and increase in the national debt and many people loosing their homes. I am going to watch what he does rather than listen to what he says.
What is Obama Facing?
Declining political standing
Continuing economic crisis
A rise of divisive issues such as immigration and Islam in America
and
New fault lines within the GOP
Yet he continues to vacation, campaign for Democrats, fundraise for Democrats and tell half-truths to the people in Columbus.
I want you to hold our government accountable. I want you to hold me accountable.”

Waiting for Obama to finally quote the movie Gladiator when he’s talking government health care, bailouts, unemployment extensions with no jobs in sight when Gracchus says:
“I think he knows what Rome is. Rome is the mob. Conjure magic for them and they’ll be distracted. Take away their freedom and still they’ll roar. The beating heart of Rome is not the marble of the senate, it’s the sand of the coliseum.”
Because that’s how Obama sees America: as “the mob of Rome”.

CND FOX, it seems you want Obama to speak to the “educated intellectual part of our nation.” What in the name of Sam Hill does that mean? The unwashed ignorant rabble should tune out I guess. He should only speak to his peers, such as educated people as yourself? I am educated, have a JD in Law, a BA in History, am I qualified to listen even though I think the guy is an overblown college professor? I am 64 and most of my friends and relatives, and my wife don’t have college degrees but they are good decent people with good common sense who go about their lives living responsibly and succeeding. I do not consider myself superior in anyway to them because I am “educated.” Maybe the uneducated should not vote under your standards? Your arrogance is astounding surpassed only by Obama’s. As to the issues you mentioned that most Americans oppose, to disagree with your ilk, in your eyes is sheer stupidity and ignorance, not reasoned opposition. Intellectuals led the red revolt in 1917 and many American “intellectuals” sympathized with the reds including the mass murderer, Stalin. Well if this is an example of intellectual rule, we surely don’t need it. Lucifer was proud and arrogant, see what it got him?

But that was in response to being attacked on 9-11. Take the average bush budget deficit and add on the entire cost of both wars and you get obama’s budget deficit for one year (look it up!). Bush ran budget deficitswhich over his 8 hears averaged 3.5% of gdp, Obama about 9% of gdp. Bush budgets were about 2.8 trillion Obama over 4 trillion. I bet anyone a dime on a dollar that Obama in 2012 will remain at 4 trillion and that this will represent a historical cut in spending from the 2011 budget of 4.4 trillion. Obama will brag about how he really cut the budget deficit! Of course assuming any economic recovery, budget dericit will likely remain over 6% gnp nearly twice the spread under Bush. Enough facts for you? Vote republican…why becuase if you dont you are voting to continue obama’s econmocis. Want to change the parties; vote in the primary.

I have a question (on topic with Iraq)… Please read the WHOLE thing, and not just a a piece-thanks. :)
Does anyone else sometimes see blogs like these, as I do, as a sespool of sorts for the darkness of human nature that is full of some of the most blindly hateful and or ignorant people on earth? And I am not asking that based upon somebody merely taking a different position then you or I do… that by itself is fine. What I am basing that question upon is rather something else. For example…
20 minutes ago I posted a response on a different site in regards to the situation in Iraq. I simply stated that we need to be cautious in labeling this as a “mission accomplished” when just under 50,000 troops remain in Iraq, which is a level a bit higher then a mere security or training brigade.
I got one response that left me both perplexed and offended from a VET-He wrote “WHOS WAR MORON? YOU LIVER ONION SIT HERE COMMENTING WHILE OUR SOLDIERS DIE FOR NOTHING. GO SERVE OUR COUNTRY FOR MY FREEDOM-HAHA. I PROUDLY SERVED.”
Ummm, ok. Somehow this supposed VET came to the conclusion that I had no right to speak my mind, that I was gutless, and that I had never served in uniform, despite knowing NOTHING about me.
Or… yesterday I posted a response on a different website in regards to the Ground Zero Mosque. I merely wrote one very simplistic sentence which read “100 % legal, but 100% insensitive.” A responder, based upon that one mere sentence, felt that he knew me well enough to write two paragraphs about my entire life, calling be a something of a racist, a loser, somebody who doesn’t really care or understand the situation, who has no personal attachment to Ground Zero whatsoever.
All of that from ONE sentence.
Does anybody else just feel that after they come on a blog like this that they have come face to face with the ignorance, evil, judgement, and hate of mankind? I cant help but come here because I, like all of you, want my voice to be heard, but it just seems like we have to pay a large price for having a voice, and that price extends FAR beyond somebody merely taking a different position or disagreeing. The price amounts to civil ugliness.
Thoughts?
And please, for the love of God, keep the comments respectful, or else you are just proving my own point. Thanks.

Thanks Foghorn. I really appreciate the response.
Also, I must apologize to everyone here on the site about any typos I might make. I usually write out my blogs on WORD, then copy and paste them over. However, I’m working with a subpar version of WORD that has a horrific spell check (at home I have a much better/recent version, but I usually write most of these responses at work, which is using a near ancient word processor . Since I type VERY fast, I usually make several mistakes in grammar, and al though I try to proofread my work, even the silliest of mistakes will get by me and my spell check (i.e. spelling the word cesspool as sespool-dear god!). So just an apology to everyone here if the sentence structures are a bit “eh” on my posts from time to time. Thanks. :)

Progressives and Obamaists cannot “win”/persuade on the merits of their ideas and performance…personal, Alinsky-like attacks are all they have (and in many cases, is all of which they are capable of providing).

It goes both ways, and its not just on the internet.
Personally, to your GZM comment I would have responded:
Anti-mosque rallies
100% legal
100% insensitive (and very good propaganda for jihadists)
And some people would consider that “mean”
My advice, if you really want it, is to remember they don’t know you, and hence what they say means very little in the larger scheme of things. Speak your mind and your version of the truth, and be content with yourself.
And never let a bully get away with bullying you.

Thank President Obama for doing a job and a job well done. I wish I had a promise and I know I deserve one. The Iraqi’s are going to win this war because they have to it is a strategic move that I am all for. President Bush gave them leadership of their own country and thank heaven Obama is behind him. If we won then what was our point in helping them build democracy? That gave them the understanding they needed I find it severely mature of them to choose royalty as their form of government. It proves to me that really have come to terms with whose really in control of things instead of the middle east countries charging against Jesus’ death. Cool
