I have been collecting unemployment for almost 4 years, but for 2 3/4th years I’ve also been working part-time (underemployed), as a computer tech and substitute teacher in my local school district, so by only collecting partial benefits, my unemployment has gone on for a much longer period than most. My part-time job would normally have lead to a full-time position, but my NJ school district simply isn’t hiring full-time workers.
Extended unemployment benefits don’t create jobs, and it isn’t really a stimulus to the economy because money collected from unemployment simply defers a person from collecting welfare, food stamps, etc.
The over-qualified issue is real – I had to apply three times for my part-time job, the third time I included a cover letter that said I understood this was a part-time job and that the pay was low, but I still wanted the job and would remain if hired. The fear employers have in hiring over-qualified employees is that they will either be disillusioned by the low-level work they are asked to do and quit OR that they will use the current position as a brief stepping-stone and bolt as soon as a slightly better job comes along.

Stephanopoulos interview with Dowd and Carvell – statist ideologs ALL! You avoided (purposely) the 2 most important reasons that Employers are not hiring. They are afraid of: 1. What Obama Health Care will cost. 2. Expiration of the Bush ‘Tax Cuts’.
Can you say “Double dip Recession”.

The 20th-century reaction against 19th-century and earlier Puritanisms, which made much of guilt, swept away the good as well as the bad.
To feel guilty when, for instance, one has badly misjudged someone or has done something reprehensible, and to make amends, if only through remorse and repentance, is laudable.

The Dems have taken the wrong direction, and change is required to prevent them from passing any more bad spending legislation, which we cannot afford.
The GOP isn’t a lot better, but at least they won’t mortgage decades into the future, for programs that do little.
It’s still the lesser of 2 evils…..but right now, the most evil is the Dems.

No politician wants anyone to witness why 30,000 thousand wait in line to be put on a wait list for section 8 housing or to be questioned as to how a country so deep in debt is going to grow an economy at a minimum of 8% a year for the next twenty to break even. And certainly there is very little talk about what we as taxpayers got for a trillion dollar stimulus that was thrown to the 4 corners of the earth to anyone but those who really needed it and could have used it to spur business that could have created jobs.
Instead we see bleak prospects for jobs, higher cost for those who do have jobs or employ others and uncertainty as far as the eye can see.

both parties have no real job creation ideas or even push any real job agendas except spending 26 billions to save some public jobs. the problem is as long as there’s no real jobs created in private sector, we would say a gloomy job market for long time.
vote for independent candidate or anyone who has good ideas on job creation. we have no reason to trust any of those incumbents and they all deserve to be out.

I cannot believe that one of the most famous political strategists out here is saying NOTHING can be done to create jobs across this nation by November. Give me a break…If Congress would hear federal bill HR3149 The equal Employment Act for All bill which would bar credit checks in the workplace. Millions of Americans who are being denied employment would start work right away. Barring credit checks would not cost one red cent in stimulus dollars and yet it would open the door for MILLIONS of jobs literally overnight. And as for tax credits creating jobs that is the biggest lies out there. I know of hundreds of business people, who if given a tax credit today would be more inclined to buy themselves a IPad or go on vacation than hire one single employee and that is the truth! Tax credits do not create jobs and anyone who believes that well, I have a bridge for sale in New Jersey….

That there is commie thinking. You think corporate america owes you anything. Business is about making money. Period. Hiring people when it doesn’t make financial sense will put a business out of business. The communist thinking and posting is why americans are fed up with democrats. Your right, republicans won’t bring back jobs, but they will create a friendly business environment so that busnesses can hire again.

We’ve out-sourced about as many jobs as we can to cheap labor abroad, at least much as we can, so with Barry and the Dems’ proposed “immigration reform,” we’ll start the massive in-sourcing effort, bringing cheap labor into America.
Makes you finally proud to be an American, doesn’t it? Being able to help the world and all…

LOL, think yourself fool! Since this job killing administration took over, they have villified American buisnesses! They have spent the past 18 months creating an environment that is so foolishly uncertain (Lets just keep passing bills so we can find out whats in them!) that virtually no buisness, big or small, is going to hire people.
At some point the POTUS (Professor of the United States) has to stop listening to his progressive academics and start listening to REAL buisnessmen if he wants really have job growth. Either that or he can stay his current course and run this country’s economy from a ditch to the bottomless pit!
It’s time to take the keys away from the 16 yr old who thinks he knows drive! This president can even find the keyhole, let alone start the engine and actually drive!

I read these posts daily, though I seldom participate in the discussion. I sit back and assess the arguments, do my fact checking, and only after that do I make a determination as to to is most full of it. What I’ve found is that most of the arguments presented by the right wing don’t stand up to close scrutiny. It’s as if they ever tried to navigate to a fact-checking site, their little fingers would burn off at the nubs. They continually cherry-pick data to support their positions, and, on occasion, will even contradict themselves. You can’t say the CBO is the be-all and end-all when they support your position and turn around and call them an illegitimate entity when they don’t. You can’t quote an economist who says that every Obama initiative will fail when there are more that say otherwise. Everything they present is based on supposition and hyperbole. You can’t possibly KNOW that everything that President Obama puts forth will fail when you are using arguments based on something you learned in “Economics 101″. Yet, you are so eager to believe that, somehow President Obama has this sinister agenda to destroy “your way of life”. It makes me wonder “Why is that?”. I was no fan of G.W. Bush. I thought he wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. But, as an inactive duty Marine, he was still my CIC. I remember sitting with my wife, looking at the news regarding our declaration of war. I’m thinking it was a technical error, a misprint if you will, that we were going to war with Iraq. I’d just watched a replay of the events of 9/11. Nowhere did it mention any Iraqi involvement. I said to her, right at that moment. “Did I miss something? Why are we now at war with Iraq?” Again, I trusted that my CIC knew something that I didn’t. We couldn’t possibly commit resources to what promised to be a protracted ground war unless we had a legitimate reason, could we? I then began to pay closer attention. I’ve followed the discourse ever since, verifying info from myriad sources. I’ve looked at the history. It shows that we were wrong in our assessment of Iraq. There is also data that indicates GW’s economic philosophy was bad for the country. Yet, you want President Obama to turn the country’s fortunes around within 1 ½ years? Republicans have no plan. Period. They are all about sound-bytes and platitudes. They, simply, don’t practice what they preach. And you have the nerve to call Obama supporters “Bots”?

Here’s Something We All Should Hear About: The Government Should Create An Additional Currency Flow To Assist The Current Currency Flow To Fix This Economy. No Matter What Party You Vote For, The Economy Breakdown Will Continue If The United States Don’t Have Two Types Of Currency Flows: 1. Government Created Currency. 2. The Current Currency. The Only Difference About The Government Currency Is It Can Not Be Used For Investing In Wall Street And Can Not Be Traded For Currency Outside The U.S.
