President, Mayor Bloomberg, Discuss Economy for 15 Minutes in Golf Clubhouse Before Hitting Links
President Obama is at the Vineyard Golf Club in Edgartown, playing golf with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Vernon Jordan and White House trip director Marvin Nicholson.
From the pool report:
"We are told Bloomberg and Obama talked in the clubhouse for about 15 mins about the economy.
"They then went to the driving range and are about to begin their round."
White House spokesman Reid Cherlin said: "the President and Mayor Bloomberg took the opportunity to discuss plans for short- and long-term economic growth at a pivotal point in our recovery."

Solar power costs money too. Then again, you don’t have to worry about over-regulation from liberals. I say if only liberals favored the clean, cheap, and safe power generated by nuclear plants . . .

Perhaps you missed it, but Republicans were in power for six straight years. If they were keen on nuclear, perhaps they could have been less inept.

Ewwww, 15 Minutes!
Too bad the conservation wasn’t scintillating enough to interrupt their round of golf, you know to the point where they may have discussed the economy and what to do for a whole hour or two.
As I said before, this President needs a week long course with experts just to get to the point where he starts to grasp how the economic engine even runs.
Folks, we are in deep doo doo.

Pretty weird blog. You think they didn’t discuss a lot of things while on the course together?

You show almost complete ignorance of the operational reality of any large corporation or entity, including the government.

Stephen: “Perhaps you missed it, but Republicans were in power for six straight years. If they were keen on nuclear, perhaps they could have been less inept.”
Perhaps not. Due to the 2005 Energy Policy Act enacted by Republicans, the first nuclear plants since the 70s will be created in the US. The last time I checked, though, liberals are no friend to the nuclear power industry or any commercial power industry, for that matter, with cap-and-trade and all. Perhaps you missed that too.

That was 5 years ago. What plants ‘will be’ created? Where are they being built?

We would have a 15 minute “special comment” by KO if Bush was golfing with a billionaire during this economy but oh well. At least if he’s golfing he won’t be in DC screwing up the economy further.

Stephen: “That was 5 years ago. What plants ‘will be’ created? Where are they being built?”
Yeah, it takes a while with all the government regulation. If you knew anything about the issue, you’d know the expense in meeting those regulations is the primary reason a plant hasn’t been built here since the 70s. To answer your question, 2 reactors are being built in Georgia, with other projects being considered elsewhere. Perhaps you can study up on the issue. Perhaps not.

You might like all those government regulations the Republicans cleared out of the way for the nuclear industry with their Energy Bill of 2005?

Oh, you mean the two nuclear power plants going ahead with approval and financial support approved by the those awful ‘liberal’ Obama administration . ..
Maybe you could do some real research.

Stephen: “. . . financial support approved by the those awful ‘liberal’ Obama administration”
That “financial support” wouldn’t have been there if it weren’t for Republicans, which was my counter-point to your claim that Republicans were “inept” on the nuclear power issue. Further, Obama’s selective support of this project may well be politically motivated as it runs counter to his agenda and that of his liberal friends as well as his order to shutdown Yucca mountain. If Obama has now converted to nuclear power proponent, great, but that remains to be seen. Those in his party and on the left haven’t been so enlightened.

It was the Obama administration that approved the goahead funding for both of the Georgia facilities.
Obama is also smart enough to understand the entire industry has to become more high-tech, modern and efficient in its use and reuse of reactor rods, reducing the amount and potency of nuclear waste, and so on – and he will push for this.
He is supportive, but no stooge of the industry.

As a follower of Henry George, the nerve of both Mayor Bloomberg and President Obama to actually say they’ve stopped the recession is stupid and dangerous, and the height of chutzpah as well as for the economist and the Deputy Fed Chair to also say they stopped it borders on the absurd and ridiculous also! Thats why I, David M. MANN MUST be Governor of Illinois and 19 other U.S. States with only 65 days to go before the 2010 state Elections, and be in time to run for President of The United States of North America and stop Sarah Palin in 2012 is totally IMPERATIVE!!!!
