President Obama to Take His Plunge in the Gulf Tomorrow – Without Cameras

From David Kerley President Barack Obama took first lady Michelle and daughter Sasha to the Florida Panhandle on Saturday in an effort to boost the region’s tourism industry after the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster. But don’t expect to see him take a swim in the waters today.President Obama said in Panama City, Fla., that he would swim in the Gulf, but not in front of the media, because he was teased so much the last time he hit the surf shirtless.  A member of the press yelled out that “it would be good” if he swam in front of cameras, which prompted Michelle Obama to yell back, “No it’s not.” The president now plans to take his dip in the Gulf waters on Sunday. The White House press corps questioned press secretary Robert Gibbs on Friday about whether the president would take a dip in the Gulf’s “clean waters.” Local residents want to see it too; the swim would send a message that the Gulf is open for business. But Mother Nature was not cooperating early on Saturday, as two red flags were flying – meaning that waters are too dangerous for swimmers. UPDATE: President Obama apparently changed his mind and decided to go swimming in the Gulf today.  Obama and Sasha took a dip off of Alligator Point in Panama City Beach, which White House officials tell us is part of the hotel property where the First Family is staying. The press was not allowed to cover the aquatic activity, but the White House released an official photo.
