Why are you interviewing Bill O’reilly? You are so much better than that. He is just a journalist that has everybody fooled. I did not think you would get caught up in his hype.

The “old guard” of the GOP has lost its mojo, and the Tea Party is now the favorite among the rank and file.

Mr. Stephanopoulos, I understand that you and Mrs. Roberts are Democrats. You said again this morning that you “don’t understand the Tea Party”. Let me give you my perspective. ( I wanted to mail this to you and Mrs. Roberts but could not find a mailing address)
WHY THE TEA PARTY APPEALS TO ME
EMIGRANTS; Where did all of these foreigners come from. How did they get into this country? I met emigrants from England and they said it took them over four years to get through the red tape to get into this country. I know the Mongs, Mexicans, Koreans, Muslims, and Cubans didn’t wait that long and go through the red tape. And if so, I thought the US had limits on the number of people allowed into the country each year. What happened to that?
And look what these emigrants have done and are doing to our country. They seem to all bring the “gangs” to the communities, or in the case of the Muslims, the terrorist factions. The move into an “area” and dominate it to the point where anyone else is afraid to enter the area. They don’t blend into our society. They run any community down into which they move. They add to the cost of furnishing “services” to the area because translators have to be hired, special classes have to be set up in the schools. Crime rates go up. They don’t abide by our rules such as having auto insurance. Consequently you get hit by their car and you are out money. The argument that they do jobs that no one else will do is bogus. If the businesses would pay a fair wage they could hire people. Yes a head of cabbage might cost a little more in the store. This all runs our countries towards a lower class of people. And we all know how the cost of their illnesses are costing the hospitals.
EDUCATION; I am concerned over the education my grand children are getting. I have to pay for one grand child to be tutored because the teachers aren’t doing their jobs. They don’t teach Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic. They use new math which I had to learn to help my grand children. The have a given amount of time to teach say multiplication. That amount of time would be sufficient if they just taught how to multiply. But they don’t. They try to teach three different ways to multiply. They don’t have enough time to teach all three methods so they just throw them out there. The theory is the student can pick the one that works best for them, but with out sufficiently learning these different methods how can they decide. The schools combine a bunch of subjects into “social” studies. Where is government and history and english and especially penmanship?
GOVERNMENT I don’t have to say much about politics. I have never in my many years seen a time when politics was so crooked. Tomorrow are the primary elections in our state. Why is the republican/ democratic party involved in supporting a particular person in the primaries. Let the individuals run their campaign and the people pick their choice then the national or local individual parties get behind the person that is elected by each party.
And then there is our present president. He is totally unqualified. He went to college and his records are sealed. All of his credentials are suspect to us out here. The news media has never answered the questions that run ramped on the internet. Anyone else they would have gone through with the finest of fine tooth combs. What we do know about him sure doesn’t qualify him to be president. I do not believe someone has to serve in political positions to be qualified to be president, but he has no other history either, such as running a business. Nothing. I have read his wife’s paper for a doctorate and that sure was a poorly done research. She made the conclusions she wanted with out the facts to support it.
ECONOMY/JOBS How do we ever expect the jobless rate to come down to what it was. To many jobs have gone over seas. I have a friend who is a mill right and he makes a living taking paper machines apart and shipping them to Japan and Brazil and I don’t know what other countries. The equipment is gone. Gary, Ind. and Pittsburgh, Pa the steel mills are gone. Auto makers have shut down and are having parts made in Mexico, Canada, Venezuela. Case tractor in Milwaukee and American Motors gone and the buildings are gone. Long Beach, Ca. Douglas Aircraft is gone. I remember when WWII broke out, industry switched over to defense production. No new cars, no new farm equipment. Everything switched to defense. In later years, I worked for Goodyear and the only built tires for the defense department but they started building rubber fuel cells and even built one model of fighter plane. Women went to work in these factories while the men went to war. IF we got into an all out war again, what would we do; order parts and equipment and munitions from China.
FOOD SUPPLY/ FARMING The mega farms are a danger to our health and we see it every day in the salmonella poisonings. Last week it was eggs. Nearly all of eggs in the stores come from one company that has several “factories” across the country. We see it in beef. The cows are no longer eating natural grass. They are being force fed corn and other products that are not normal to their diet, just to put on weight faster. Milk will be next. In Wisconsin all of the farmers that are in selling milk are going to herds of one thousand milkers which generally means that their herd is about two thousand animals. They have to have so many acres of land for each cow, by law. So they are buying and renting all of the land around for miles thus running the small farmer out of business. A farm of 120 acres use to supply a living to a family of 6 or 7. All of those farms have been taken over by the mega farms. Yes the mega farms do supply jobs but not nearly as many as were displaced by the consolidation of the small farms into mega farms. Plus, these mega farms are importing Mexican labor. A subject I believe I have already addressed. The small farms use to haul the manure to the field every week if not every day. The mega farms collect the manure and once a year get out huge tankers and haul the manure to the field and flood the fields with liquids and solids that run off into our water supply.
EQUAL RIGHTS/ CIVIL RIGHTS The constitution talks about “equal rights” not “civil rights”. They are two very different things. Under “equal rights’ if I own a coffee shop and a person, any person, comes in that I do not want to serve, that is my right. Just like if THAT person owned the coffee shop HE would have a right to reject serving me. Under “Civil Rights” we do not have a right to refuse service and MUST serve each other. Under “Civil Rights” I am surprised that the law doesn’t tell me I HAVE to buy my coffee from some one, with whom I do not want to do business and the same when the other person is buying coffee.
So ok, we have “Civil Rights”. Now why is it that the people that marched and “fought” for “Civil Rights” can have magazines, colleges, organizations, and even a caucus in the federal government dedicated to their race? In my life I have seen my rights taken away. Because of my feelings the news medial paints me and the Tea Party movement “racist”.

I cannot believe that a smart democratic candidate in a close primary race has not cried foul. If I am a Green Party or Libertarian or any Acme political party candidate I would be raising hell. “The Tea Party,” running under the guise of the GOP smells of ballot access violations. Draining the coffers of the GOP, but quite boldly proclaiming themselves as a Tea Party candidate, instead of proudly proclaiming themselves as conservative, old school Republican appears to be a bold-faced attempt of skirting ballot access rules at the expense of both the grass roots parties that live on the outskirts of the “two political” system. Why have I not seen any challenges by either Republican competitors or other party constituents? Have they all forgotten the Bull Moose Party (understandable, it was about a century ago). Perhaps the best way to stem the tide of the “Tea Party” is to attack them where they live, within their own rhetoric. Can you imagine how many primaries the Tea Party has won or may win, that would be declared null or void because they have violated ballot access rules in failing to file the appropriate petitions and fees that other parties and candidates are required to follow. Maybe somebody should investigate the “Tea Party” for election fraud or violations. Which candidate, reporter, or Election Commission is willing to look into the real action and motivation of the “Tea Party?” I guess we will see if any are willing to make that challenge.

Tom Collins – nice long post. Now please answer ONE question. Since there are no votes, who decides which candidates the Tea Party supports?

Really.

Honestly Mick I do not know and don’t care as I have never cast a vote based on who the Tea Party backed. I would reverse that question to you– who in the republican/ democratic party picks the candidates they support. My point is that the “parties” should NOT back anyone in the primary. I hope to clarify for ABC what has me unhappy with the US related to the government. It is THE best country for me, but I do not want it changed to something else, and that is what I see happeneing.

I would like to comment to the post about “Why the Tea Party Appeals to Me”. Much that is said in that post is right. America has changed greatly since the authors youth. We have become a society that values money over all else. We no longer save, but we charge it. The natural consequence has been that we have become a nation in debt. We do in fact have a government that spends more than its society can produce. Our children have learned that is better to “get paid” than to work.
My point is that the cultural ills of this society will not be fixed by voting for a political party. Only you can make the changes in your house, neighborhoood, community. Thus, don’t put all your eggs in one basket with a vote that end up working against your self interests. You see, it is the conservatives who say they are for you, but they turn around and give tax breaks for the rich, provide loopholes and other tax incentives to corporations to send work oversees. It is the right that says that they will improve education, yet they don’t fund it and let rot. It is the Republicans who say they are for you, but they are not. They are for the corporations. They right wing of government today was pulled the wool over America’s eyes. They think you are dumb and tell you that your vote is for values and all that is great about America. Their track record does not show it. For this reason, I cannot support big business Republicans or their militant extreme wing called the Tea Party. I am for an America that is hard working, ethical, open minded, not xenophobic. I am for an America that looks after the worker rather than the corporation.

Hey George,
Obama couldn’t run anything, yet you put him in power. If Obama can be President, anybody can be President. How to lead like Obama? Blame the predecessor and send satellite groups to accuse opponents of racism.

Posted by: Hamilton Yao | September 21, 2010, 4:23 pm 4:23 pm

If Obama is President, tell me who cannot be a President? His daughter has to tell him to plug the hole. Didn’t he know he had to do it? If Palin’s daughter tells her to plug the hole, George will call her “immature, dumb, not smart enough to be leader, unqualified, etc.”
By the way, George, when Obama said that he never heard Wright insulting USA, then months later he came back to say that he heard it, did you call him liar? Why not?

ArmandSparta comments.
The point is we are all mad at the government for something. What the Tea Party is about is “just go back to the constitution”. The Tea Party is at odds with the Republican party as it is with the Democratic party, but the Republicans “say” the right things and it is up to the Tea Party to hold them to what they say. The Democrats say they want to take money away from the rich and give it to the “workers” who don’t WORK. That is not America to me.
The constitution does not say that the government should tax the corporations out of business nor does it say the government should step in and keep them from going broke. But remember that the corporations supply jobs to “workers”
I absolutely agree about the “cultural ills”, but the Democrats want to cultivate those “ills” by giving everything to those who don’t have. How do we raise better families? Out law TWO people working in a family so one stays home like when I was a kid? My grand children don’t know how to work and as a grand parent I would have to holler at them all the time we are together to try and change them and that would not work. Please tell me how do we change the “cultural ills”.
