Sen. McCain: Meghan Wrong on O’Donnell

Meghan McCain got some buzz on Sunday by calling Christine O’Donnell a “nut job,” but on “GMA” today her dad didn’t take the bait.

“My daughter and I have very spirited conversations from time to time and it’s a lot of fun,” Sen. John McCain told me. “With all due respect to my daughter, the primary voters of Delaware chose Christine O’Donnell and she’s the candidate.”

McCain did, however, agree with his former running mate Sarah Palin’s assessment that the “GOP is through” if they don’t follow the Tea Party’s lead.

”I think she is right to this degree, that obviously when we gain the majority, when Republicans gain majorities, they betrayed our base typically in the area of fiscal responsibility,” he said.

”And what Sarah’s saying is that we’ve got to get a fiscally responsible majority in Congress of Republicans and act in a fiscally responsible manner,” McCain told me.

So what does that mean for the day after the election? How can Republicans work with President Obama without betraying the Tea Party and actually get things done?

”It’s up to the president, as it was up to Bill Clinton when you were in the White House – after the ’94 election, he reached out to Republicans,” the Arizona senator said.

”But the fact is that this president has not reached out, not one time, on a major issue to Republicans. I hope that he will. We look forward to problem solving with him. But we really need to respond to the anger and frustration that the American people feel today.”

Megan is correct. O’Donnell is a nut job.
She is an embarassment. If the republicans want to get on top again, they should get rid of these types. I can’t believe that John McCain really believes what he says.

Meghan McCain is a moron, she proved that in 2008 when she went on and on about the hate and negativity coming from Republicans but said nothing about the hate, race baiting and negativity coming from democrats. She’s an idiot and if it weren’t for her dad no one would even give her a second glance and certainly wouldn’t care about her opinion.
I have a lot of respect for John, but I don’t often agree with his positions – like amnesty!

The President most certainly reached out to the Republicans and his hand was bitten not but just the GOP but also by the Liberal Dems. Get it straight McCain!

John McCain is passing the torch to a new generation of Republicans Sarah Pallin and Christine O’Donnnell, when he should consider passing it to an even younger generation of Meghan McCain who seem to make more sense drawing the party to being more centrist and tolerant.

John McCain has flipped-flopped so much I cannot understand what he’s saying half the time. I do know that O’Donnell is a nut job and the Republicans need to take heed and not listen to Sarah or they will be through. They will lose moderates and independents, or yrah and the sane.

I think Megan has been brain washed by liberal college professors and is more liberal Democrat than a Republican.

It makes no sense to oust an incumbant, only to replace the person with an even *less* intelligent person. If O’Donnell can’t even answer the questions at a debate, how can she be intellgent enough to be a senator? If she can’t get her own finances straight, how can anyone expect her to make a good decision on the finances of an entire country?
So much for commen sense.

McCain always shows leadership, and common sense. One of the very few in Washington, I can respect.

This was just this morning…real bright:
In a debate at Widener University Law School, O’Donnell criticized Democratic nominee Chris Coons’ position that teaching creationism in public school would violate the First Amendment by promoting religious doctrine.
O’Donnell asked where the Constitution calls for the separation of church and state. When Coons responded that the First Amendment bars Congress from making laws respecting the establishment of religion, O’Donnell asked: “You’re telling me that’s in the First Amendment?”
The exchange Tuesday aired on radio station WDEL generated a buzz among law professors and students in the audience.

Meghan McCain is a spoiled brat, an elitist, having grown in the freest and best place to live in the world (thanks to her father) but she has been brainwashed by the progressives and she is being used by the liberal media to bash conservatives.

This man needs to book a room in a senior citizen center, he is clearly out of touch with reality, gave us the hater Palin and unleashed the misery that is the republican party aka teabagers upon us. The hate filled vile speeches of late make me sick. I am a 100% bleeding heart liberal President Obama supporting voter, and I am NOT ALONE. Meghan McSame is not my cup of tea but she is spot on about Christine being a nutcase nitwit.

You may really dislike and disagree with Obama. But McCain is losing it mentally and Palin and O’Donnell are nut cases. of course, you so called “conservatives” think brain dead Regan was a great President. You know, the guy that opened the borders to illegals, out-sourced our industry and broke the US budget.

George should never have let John McCain get the last word saying that Obama has not reached out enough to GOP. Obama has done nothing but reach out and compromise with the party of NO obstructing all the way abusing the filibuster protocol. George can still take GOP guests to task regardless of his obvious experience in the Dem administration of Clinton. Shame on you George!

Posted by: vso | October 19, 2010, 10:24 am 10:24 am

And O’Donnell has yet to visit all 58 states. She would never make a good democrat!

Posted by: Greyghost | October 19, 2010, 10:26 am 10:26 am

You obama lemmings crack me up. You either liars or fools, it’s up to you which, but the idea that obama reached out is ignorant at the very best! His first meeting with rep’s – ‘get over it, I wont, give me what I want’… that is not reaching out. Rep’s were not included in the stimulus legislation, healthcare joke, or anything – they were just told to vote for it!
Funny – it seems most of America doesn’t agree with you and KNOWS obama did nothing to reach across the aisle!
Why is it that liberals have no problems lying and ignoring reality yet they’re the first to cry and point their fingers when the republicans do it?

Posted by: DJH | October 19, 2010, 10:37 am 10:37 am

It’s amazing who they interview and expect and objective answer. I guess they’ll next ask Whoppi to write a bio of Bill O’Reilly or ask Levi Johnston to write one on Sarah Palin.
McCain knew the economy was falling apart in 2008 but when Bush said, “The economy is sound,” McCain said, “The economy is sound.”
If McCain feels he needs to say the Sun rises in the West to win, he’ll do so.
So why is any of that one interview, at the height of a reelection campaign, being paraded as news, day after day?

John McCain responded the way many American parents do when they recognize that their child has adopted opinions that are not derived from real life experience and that once the CHILD gets a taste of REAL LIFE, their opinions and decisions – like who to vote for – will change (Older people with life experience vote Consertive Republican more often than not.).
Megan McCain was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. Her parent’s pay for everything. She has NEVER had a job like you or me and therefore, cannot relate to the everyday struggles of the average American.
On the other hand, Christine O’Donnel grew up the way you and I did, and while she may never have “run a buisness,” she has first-hand experience with overcoming challenges – something Megan McCain has never experienced.

Well, Ms. O’Donnell just proved Sen. McCain wrong. In the Delware radio debate this morning, she had no idea that the Constitution mandates separation of church and state. To gasps and laughter from the audience, she repeatedly asked, “You’re telling me that’s in the Constitution?” Meghan McCain was right: O’Donnell doesn’t have even the most basic education to be a U.S. Senator.

Megan is simply lashing out at CO because as much as MM has tried to become someone in politics she has not reached any fame. She went after Palin
for a long time and now chooses to go after CO because that will get her on tv.Not many concern themselves with what an immature attention hog has to say. The left will drewl all over her if she is willing to bash women on the right and MM will eat it up. Look for her to be a regular on Maddow Ed Olbermann and Matthews.

How can anybody here who’s been paying attention say that Obama hasn’t reached out to Republicans? That’s why 40% of the stimulus was tax cuts. Republicans wanted ALL tax cuts (not even infrastructure spending or emergency worker aid, most of them). By the way, except for Arlen and the Maine ladies, all Republicans in Congress voted against the stimulus, and continue to say that it was a mistake or failure, despite the fact that economists say that it has had a positive effect. Don’t let their ribbon cutting and backslapping at project groundbreakings fool you. We have to remember that the point of the stimulus wasn’t to bring ALL jobs back, but to stabilize the economy (8% unemployment prediction was ill-advised considering nobody really knew how bad Bush messed things up at the time, but the Obama team did make that mistake).
Anyway, despite attempts to work with them, Republicans believed that they alone had the answer, tax cuts, and that nothing else should be done. How much worse would the economy be if we’d listen to them? 2001 and 2003 “tax cuts” only worsened the deficit & debt and didn’t make us any better for it. We’re still at that tax rate, but it doesn’t seem to have made much of a difference, has it?
Anyway, Republicans have voted against not only that, but Wall Street reform (they were against that before a bill was even written – according to McConnell and Boehner). Amazing considering what just happened less than 2 years ago. Yet, somehow, they claim to also rail against the bank bailouts/TARP, which THEY voted for under Bush – which, by the way, was formally ended BY this reform bill, which they voted against as a bloc. Dodd and others reached out to Republicans, but for some reason, they didn’t see a need for a federal consumer watchdog agency, despite the market meltdown and all the different bubbles that bursted, including credit, housing, commodities, stock manipulation/mischaracterization, etc.
Healthcare reform, necessary because insurers have abused their privileges to provide coverage, was dragged along for a WHOLE year, because Obama and Co. were trying to get bipartisanship on this important issue. Snowe and her trigger option BS never panned out. All those other Senators with their various ideas got their say. It wasn’t single-payor universal healthcare and didn’t even include a public option, which if it were so liberal, it would have been included. But because the president and others are such poor negotiators, that wasn’t included. Instead, what you have is a mandate on buying PRIVATE insurance (not a gov’t takeover with DEATH PANELS like some lying neocons said), with no hard cap on premium rates – basically a giveaway to big business and Pharma. Anti-business, my butt. Repeatedly, Republicans pretended to be for 80% of it, then they said scrap it altogether, then they got to add their BS amendments to water it down further, then voted against the damn thing, anyway, all the while crying that they weren’t being listened to when in its origins, it’s Hatch/Grassley’s answer to Hillarycare – center-right BS.
On energy legislation (which hasn’t happened in both houses), Obama threw away bargaining chips as he all of sudden became pro- deepwater drilling in March, when in 2008 he went against the Drill Baby Drill crowd and said we can’t drill our way out of or energy problems (and we can’t – most of our oil derives from overseas and trying to replace that with what’s in our presumed reserves wouldn’t fill our current energy needs). Before he even got to the table, he was wooing Republicans, because he was so naive as to believe they could be counted on to work with him on anything. We saw what happened in April, though.
Republicans have held up unemployment benefits for people who have PAID into that – it’s not welfare, btw. They have voted against aid for state workers (teachers and emergency services) – even when it was a balanced bill that took away some food stamp money in the future. As a bloc, they’ve voted against tax cuts for small businesses, supposedly one of their most important constituencies throughout this recession, but it passed with one Republican, after 3 months of waiting.
Republicans have pretended this whole time to care about bipartisanship, but look at their voting records and look at how Obama has tried to reach out on EVERY BILL, only to water down the legislation and still have them vote against it. Somehow, that’s the only way you can be seen as being bipartisan, by the votes, not the efforts.
All Republicans wanted to do was run down the clock and vote against everything to prove him wrong – SEE, he couldn’t change things – “SEE, he didn’t listen to us, look at how we voted, NOT the actual legislation for inclusion of our ideas” – and to ruin any probability of success to say “Well, they didn’t know what they were doing (nevermind the mess we made that needed to be cleaned up on so many fronts), you guys should be pretty angry at all the partisanship and sharp rhetoric which we created the environment for, now vote us back into power.”
Sounds cynical, sure, but if you’ve been paying attention the whole time, it’s easy to see how Republicans have not only been playing politics, as irresponsible as that could be in this time of economic crisis, but have been repeatedly throwing away opportunities at working together. Not only that, but they have the nerve to call this guy a zealot or socialist. Liberals are mad at him because of how much he has courted the GOP and conservatives, only to get slapped in the face, EVERY SINGLE TIME, while not passing legislation and policies that do not only comes from a liberal idea, but look liberal on paper and practice, as well. That’s the change we needed from the Bush years.
And the transparency isn’t there. Bipartisanship could’ve waited until we got GOOD bills that took immediate effect. Everybody’s upset about the economy – except rich people – but liberals are upset with Obama for not taking the GOP to task more often and for acting like a moderate Republican (despite what the nutjobs on the right have been saying).

Posted by: Kathy in Pa. | October 19, 2010, 1:11 pm 1:11 pm

Christine O’Donnell is not fit to make a decision based on facts, but the real blame lies with those who voted for her. If Alvin “fix the S.C. economy by making action figures of me” Greene can win a primary, anyone can – it just depends on primary voters. Hopefully the general election will bring out more normal voters. I’ll never forget when a woman in Gaza said she voted for Hamas because she knew it would make George Bush angry – now she’s the one who has to live with that decision (Fatah is a bunch of cronyistic backscratchers who’ve ignored those outside their clique, so I can see why people would be against them – not unlike people voting against Republicans in this country).

Posted by: Chris S | October 19, 2010, 1:18 pm 1:18 pm

to DonMN: Meghan goes after Palin and O’Donnell because they’re a couple ditzy extremists who could never win a general election. Anyone who disagrees with the extreme right is “left” of them, but not necessarily a liberal. Republicans will have to appeal to more people than right extremists, but at this time, there is no candidate who can do this. People will buy a fiscal conservative, but are bored with the loudmouth social conservatives who present no ideas on how to fix real world issues. Republicans could gain ground if they separate their districts from federal handouts and SHOW the country their theories work.

True, Meghan is too young to have gone through what CO has, BUT I hope she doesn’t not pay taxes, accept emotions over facts, and whatever else CO has done to overcome challenges (which she really hasn’t done – they’re on the backburner or evaded – eventually they’ll catch up with her; probably after the general election when she gets shellacked and goes into meltdown).

Meghan McCain…”is like a valley girl…or like she talks one, well like you know what I mean!”
And what is Meghan McCain’s accomplishments other than writing a book and making the talk show circuit?
Her dad is a well known name in politics, and Meghan McCain is finding attention by roading on her dad’s coat tails. What exactly are Meghan McCain’s grand accomplishments that she has the wisdom or even knowledge or privilege to call Christine O’Donnell a nutjob. Meghan McCain is a conservative like the Pope is Jewish.

Megan McCain stated what I though after reading Christine O’Donnell’s long history of, um, public service. Over the years Christine O’Donnell stated condoms are ineffective, self-gratification is dangerous, and wondered aloud if evolution were true why do monkeys not evolve into humans on a regular basis. It will be interesting to watch the Tea Party candidates in action after they take their seats. Legislating is a lot harder than spouting talking points.

LLEN – Going to college and being exposed to a different type of thinking is brain washing? Wouldn’t brainwashing actually be your parents raising you without ever letting you know there are other views? Also, define how America is the “Freest” country? It is free in that religious minorities can’t build a house of worship where they want? Or that gay people don’t have civil rights? Or that we just extended civil rights to black people 50 years ago, and women 90 years ago? If you compare us to other Western countries you will see that we are not “freer”, if that is even a word.
D – The fact that Megan Mccain was born with a silver spoon in her mouth is what makes her the ideal republican.
Ed – Great spelling “drewl”, clearly you and Ms. O’ Donnell are much brighter than Ms. McCain.
Greyghost – You probably had the silliest post on here, you don’t think any one other than President Obama had anything to do with creating the health care bill? I heard another person crying recently that Obama doesn’t play nice with republicans and he doesn’t compromise. What happened to the single payer system for health care? That was scrapped right? Isn’t that how a compromise works? I give up something I want and you give up something you want, but we actually get something done? Republicans just seem to hide in their turtle shells and cry “it’s not fair” when anyone proposes anything they can’t sell to their constituents.

Posted by: Drando | October 19, 2010, 10:26 pm 10:26 pm

D – What challenges has Christine O’ Donnell over come? She hasn’t seemed to overcome her trouble with reading comprehension…she didn’t get past the first amendment.
Did she overcome her financial problems? Well I guess she did, but not without the help of all her campaign finances that she used to pay personal bills. Just because Ms. McCain disagrees with you doesn’t mean you have to disparage her, you can’t listen to someone else’s opinion without getting angry and attacking? How much do you know about Ms. McCain? About the same as you know about Ms. O’ Donnell? It is a good thing conservative folks don’t jump to conclusions and seek to stereotype everyone. Otherwise they may have been against letting women and minorities vote…which of course would be ridiculous…..

To add to Gary’s comment that CO does not have the basic education to be a senator.. I am not certain she has the basic education to be a citizen… how can you be American and not know about the separation of church and state… it practically defines the United States! What has become of the country when we entertain such ignorance let alone get such ignorance this close to becoming a senator with power. I may be Republican but I cannot ever endorse stupidity and cast a vote for it… She is an American embarrassment.

O’Donnell certainly seems to be a nut job. But if not, she’s at least a vapid, substance-free talking-point-recital machine with far less political acumen and intellectual wherewithal than even Palin. I know, I’m an elitist. What a snob I am for wanting people who are not terminally stupid in office.
