Tax Dollars for Prostitutes?

ABC News’ Jonathan Karl reports: Here’s another contender for the nastiest attack ad of the campaign. Louisiana Democrat Charlie Melancon has just gone up with a new TV ad accusing David Vitter of spending tax dollars on prostitutes. Vitter, of course, was famously a client of the DC Madam and has acknowledged committing a “serious sin.”  But did he use tax dollars?  “Our tax dollars pay David Vitter’s salary and he used it for prostitutes. You’re welcome Senator.  Our money paid for Vitter’s serious sin.”,” the ad’s narrator says over sultry pictures of a woman who seems to be in a bedroom and grainy video of Vitter’s press conference (with his wife at his side) when he acknowledged his transgression.   By this logic, it seems, anything a public official spends his or her money on – whether a prostitute or a sandwich – is taxpayer money.
