ABC News' Sunlen Miller reports: President Obama today will travel to Wilmington, Delaware where he and the Vice President will attend an event for Democratic Senate candidate Chris Coons. Given the latest polls, showing Coons well ahead of his opponent Christine O'Donnell, the White House has had to defend themselves as to why so many resources – the President and the VP – would be invested to this race, if they are not worried. “I think it's a very important race," White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said at Thursday's briefing, "we understand that every vote and every race is important, and obviously this one's, sort of, near and dear to the vice president.  And — and they're both happy to — to go do that. ” Gibbs said they “hope and expect” to win this race. Afterward the President will return to Washington, DC, where his only event for the rest of the day is will be in private closed-door meetings. In the afternoon, the President will meet with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in the Oval Office. -Sunlen Miller
