From Sunlen Miller:
After his regular rounds of morning briefings, President Obama is scheduled to award Army Staff Sgt. Robert J. Miller the Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry, at a ceremony in the early afternoon. Miller will receive his Medal of Honor posthumously for his heroic actions in Afghanistan in 2008.
“He displayed immeasurable courage and uncommon valor — eventually sacrificing his own life to save the lives of his teammates and 15 Afghanistan National Army soldiers,” the White House says.
Miller’s parents, Phil and Maureen Miller are expected to join the president at the White House for the East Room ceremony. Vice President Biden and the first lady are also scheduled to attend.
Later in the afternoon, the president is scheduled to travel to Newark, N.J., to attend a DNC dinner at a private residence in Cresskill, N.J.
In the evening, the President will return to the White House.
