PRESIDENT OBAMA:
The Washington Post’s Scott Wilson: “Obama heralds Indonesia’s political, religious diversity in latest outreach to Muslims” Speaking before thousands in the city that helped raise him, President Obama on Wednesday cited this country's transition from dictatorship to democracy as a model in an Islamic world often governed by unelected autocracies. LINK

The Wall Street Journal’s Jonathan Weisman: “Obama Reaches Out to Muslim Ally” President Barack Obama, 18 months after launching his "New Beginning" with the Muslim world in Cairo, used the backdrop of this teeming, multiethnic Muslim city to restart that effort after a difficult period of conflict with Islam at home and abroad. LINK

Bloomberg’s Julianna Goldman and Hans Nichols: “Obama Says U.S. Has Stake in Indonesian Democracy, Prosperity” President Barack Obama said the U.S. has a stake in Indonesia’s continued growth as a market for American goods and as an ally in spreading democracy.  In a speech to an audience of about 6,000 people at the University of Indonesia in Jakarta, Obama said Indonesia’s “extraordinary democratic transformation” and its religious tolerance stand as examples to other emerging economies. LINK

The NY Daily News’ Corky Siemaszko: “President Obama's approval rating climbs to 47% despite midterm massacre of Democrats” President Obama's approval rating is up – despite the clobbering he got at the ballot box. Obama's poll numbers climbed to 47% in the days after the Republican rout gave the GOP control of the House and big pickups in the Senate, a new Gallup poll found. LINK

FOREIGN AFFAIRS:
The New York Times’ Mark Landler and Ethan Bronner: “In Curt Exchange, U.S. Faults Israel on Housing” President Obams's criticism of new Israeli housing plans for East Jerusalem, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's even sharper retort, have thrown the Middle East peace talks into jeopardy, with the dispute over Jewish settlements looming as a seemingly insuperable hurdle. LINK

Bloomberg’s Viola Gienger and Flavia Krause-Jackson: “U.S. Diplomats to Take On New Iraq Security Roles in Afghanistan Preview” The challenge for American diplomats who take over security support in Iraq from the U.S. military next year starts with this: They are to provide protection without carrying guns. They also will be responsible for running their own fleet of aircraft and operating a rocket-warning system, with fewer than 1,100 civil servants replacing a force as large as 50,000 U.S. troops. LINK

TERRORISM:
Politico’s Josh Gerstein: “Extreme divide on terror issues” The intense focus on the differences between President Barack Obama and House Republicans on government spending and tax cuts has eclipsed the yawning gulf that separates Obama and the incoming House leadership on counterterrorism policy, Guantanamo and the use of civilian courts to try accused Sept. 11 plotter Khalid Sheik Mohammed and other terrorism suspects. LINK

HEALTH CARE:
The Boston Globe’s Kyle Cheney and Michael Norton: “Mayors hope for more say on controlling health care costs” Municipal officials hoping for increased control over employee health care costs will have to wait a little longer for a signal from the Patrick administration about plans to curb soaring premiums. LINK

GOP / DEMOCRATS / CONGRESS:

LINK

ABC News’ Devin Dwyer: “Democratic Save: Rep. Gerry Connolly Defies 2010 Wave With Re-Election” Freshman Democratic incumbent Rep. Gerry Connolly of northern Virginia eked out a narrow, belated re-election victory Tuesday after a concession from his Republican challenger, Keith Fimian. LINK

The Washington Times’ Seth McLaughlin: “GOP senators ask colleagues to back ban on earmarks” A group of Senate conservatives issued an early challenge to their Republican colleagues, calling on them in an open letter to support a ban on earmarks – a stance the House GOP embraced earlier this year. LINK

The Hill’s Kevin Bogardus: “Lobbyists jockey for favored status with top House Republicans” Kathryn Lehman is not making it a secret that she used to work for Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas). “Well, I’ve never been shy about the fact that I worked for the House Republican leadership,” said Lehman, a partner at Holland & Knight who formerly worked as an aide for several GOP leaders, including ex-Speaker Dennis Hastert (Ill.). LINK

The LA Times’ Michael Memoli: “Eight congressional races still up in the air” Eight congressional races remain undecided one week after election day, though Republicans appear set to add to their historic gains. LINK

FORMER PRESIDENT BUSH:
Newsweek’s Ben Adler: “Oprah Fails to Question Bush on Important Aspects of His Legacy” If someone were to ask you what the dominant political issue is at the moment, you'd probably say the national debt or extension of the Bush tax cuts. The most controversial political fight of the last two years? Surely health care reform. LINK

ABC NEWS VIDEO:
ABC News: “Newt's 2012 GOP Forecast on 'The View'” Gingrich lists himself as a front-runner behind Palin, Romney and Huckabee. LINK
