#1 the top 10% of wage earners are WAGE EARNERS-I said nothing about dividends or other income.And they do pay most of the taxes.#2 the stimulus money DID NOT prevent a depression,there never was a chance of the far reaching financial collapse of 1929 repeating.#3 what positive effect that did occur from government intervention was almost entirely from TARP.#3 almost svery economic expert DOES NOT believe your statement,if anything the most recent data coming out supports the position that the stimulus did little beyond accelerating previously planned projects and expanding debt-even Obama has admitted that the shovel -ready projects never existed! The class envy drips from your post-it is obvious that you don’t believe that the successful should reap the fruit of their labors,but they should carry the non-productive and underproductive of society.Since they already pay most of the taxes.they already do.

Nephron, the top 10% are not wage-earners, the majority of them have income from dividends, interest income, real estate income, etc. They are not ‘working’ for a living like the rest of us.
The stimulus money kept us from going into a depression, almost every economic expert says so. It was as if one room of your house was on fire, the fireman put it out or the whole house would have gone up. No one expects the water to repair the damaged room. The stimulus money was the water, not a miracle.
I don’t have class envy, I have a sense of reality and have studied history enough to know the national deficit has to be brought down, by cutting wasteful spending and by getting more tax revenue. There isn’t a country in the past that didn’t go under if they didn’t balance things.
Historically, the Repub talk cutting spending but in reality only try to cut domestic spending. And they target the cuts in a way that hurts the lower and middle-class, which hurts the larger economy. At the same time they increase government spending for industries controlled by big corporations. And they increase the debt by lowering tax rates for the rich. This all results in a much higher national debt.
Just like those ‘experts’ who said housing prices would never fall, the banking industry didn’t need regulation, those who say our country will always be strong are being unrealistic.
The richest 20% own 85% of all wealth in this country, all the land, buildings, stocks, bonds, cash, etc. The rest of the 80% of Americans own the other 15%. Commonsense tells us who can afford to turn this economy and national debt situation around.

Lydia,what do you call the 800 Billion Dollar stimulus,which created NO NET NEW JOBS?That was not paid for; the funds still available could pay for the unemployment benefits.You have the typical liberal class envy of the successful-the top 10% of wage earners are already paying the lion’s share of taxes.The current tax rates have been present for 10 years- what we would have had was a tax INCREASE,the greatest in history during a recession.9.8 % unemployment -remember?

ifrichar, this tax plan may be a compromise but at a terrible cost to our deficit and our economy.
By extending the tax cuts for the rich, we are growing our deficit with no benefit to the economy.
I understand that the President feels his hands are tied, the Repubs are cruelly holding the unemployment benefit extension hostage to get the tax cuts for the rich, the Dems are not vocally and vigorously fighting them.
As for the stupid mantra of the Repub to shrink government to make up the difference, this is just another way of pushing for de-regulation for quick profits at the expense of our economy’s health. (Think about the Repub’s de-regulation of the banking industry which created the economic mess we are in right now. Sure, those banks made record profits for a few years but created losses for the rest of us and the world that vastly exceeded their gain. But isn’t that how greedy people think, their profit is more important than the financial, economic & physical health of others? That is why every industry needs strong regulation, to protect the public. And that is the government’s job after all, to protect the public.)

OBAMA is just another proponent of the Fascist New World Order, corporate run government, and has no intention of pleasing or helping those who put him into office.
I unfortunately being one who voted for him, but honestly didn’t have a choice, considering the horrible alternative. He has proven to be no different than the Bush crime family and the global elitists that includes all Democrats AND Republicans providing a FRONT to cover their operations to bring down the United States of America and it’s Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Obama is no dummy. Seriously, that guy has gotten paid and he’ll get PAID$$$$ when he leaves office. He was smart enough to take the cash from GS and BP. Smart enough to meet the wealthy elite in SFO in 2008 and do what they said. He was smart enough to fool libs into supporting him, many who have Ivy degrees. Then again, these are the same people who say global warming is real while tooling around in jets and driving Range Rovers.
