ABC News’ Mary Compton reports:
U.S. Capitol Police evacuated the Capitol buildings this afternoon after temporarily losing contact with a US Airways Express plane.
NORAD told ABC affiliate WJLA that jets were scrambled out of Andrews Air Force Base, but quickly were returned because the plane reestablished contact.
U.S. Capitol Police sent an e-mail to all U.S. Capitol employees at 1:40 p.m. telling them that an “unauthorized aircraft entered restricted airspace” and that they needed to evacuate the buildings on the U.S. Capitol campus.
Employees were allowed to return at 2 p.m.
